  1. Thank you for your kind words, it was a joy to build and is highly recommended. It is also my favourite jet of all time and strangely despite that this is my first build of one...go figure!
  2. Thanks mrvr6 they are the kit markings of the CAG's aircraft, hence the multi coloured stripes on the tailfin.
  3. Well after my diversion by doing the 1/72 Spitfire Mk.Ia here is my Tomcat. The kit is superb with very few fit problems, and I thoroughly enjoyed building it. Sorry for the many large pics, but she is rather big girl.
  4. They look great! Especially the T4, since I was squadron ops for 233 OCU ( later 27 ® sqn) in 1992/3. Well done.
  5. I also just did a Google search and I did eventually find what I think is the seam on the exhaust.
  6. I am pretty certain those seam lines are present on the real thing, as it isn`t a molding seam.
  7. Thank you, I just wanted to see how well this scale could be detailed and am very pleased with the results. Only thing is now I will have to do more of this scale...shame eh.
  8. I normally do 1/48 scale, but whilst in the final stages of a Hobbyboss Tomcat I fancied doing a simple 1/72 Spitfire to give myself a bit of a break. The new tool Spitfire Ia was chosen and what a little gem of a kit, I thoroughly enjoyed building it.
  9. I've had a brainwave which yes is a rareity, but I tried airbrush cleaner on a cotton ear bud and with careful rubbing the stain came off and it didn't mark the paint. Thanks guys
  10. Hi andym, the paint finish was acrylic as was the gloss coat. gcn, thanks for pitching in, however I have already applied the acrylic wash and I just need to know if there is anything that can remove it once dried.
  11. Hi chaps, I wish to tap your collective brains with regards to my dilemma. I have just applied a panel wash to a Airfix 1/72 Spitfire mk.Ia (new tooling..it's v.good), and I used acrylics that I mixed with water and washing up liquid. It seemed to come off okay at first but there are ares on the wings where there are still black smudges where it hasn't come off, I've tried just water and also screen wash to scrub it off but it wont budge. I think the mixture was too strong since I used a weaker mixture from the same acrylic mix on the underside and it came off fine, so is there anything I can do about the top side smudges? Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi Kev67, I applied the paint initially neat which gave the good result in the first picture, since then I haven't been able to repeat it despite doing the same. I have tried thinning it with screenwash but I still get the pebbled effect.
  13. Here's a couple of pictures of the same part showing both sides. The first was the un-thinned onto straight plastic, the other side was done the same way, but then given subsequent layers to try and get a good finish.....to no avail. first attempt that went well second attempt done the same
  14. Thanks for your responses, gcn I did put on some mist coats first and then a heavier coat but after several wet coats I still cannot get a smooth gloss finish. Enzo matrix, I tend to use acrylics because ofthe ease of clean up and not having to use chemicals when children and pets are about. Thank you
  15. Thanks for the reply, what a bummer as I just bought a new jar. HeyHo I suppose that's just how it is, I have some Matt Revell aqua paint and some clear gloss so I'll try that.
  16. Hi chaps, and chapesses. I recently bought some Tamiya X2 gloss white to try and get good coverage, when I first sprayed it I didn't thin it and the finish was a smooth gloss White and looked great. However since then I can't get the same finish, it just gives a rough finish that looks flat and even looks a different shade, andsometimes has patchy glossy areas. I have tried to mix it with water and even screen wash, then neat but still no smooth gloss. Any ideas?
