  1. But it’s not preassembled! You can see the individual track links in the exploded view on the Airfix website: It’s wrong!
  2. The parts in the kit look like Hobby Boss was trying to represent fabric covering. It’s definitely wrong.
  3. Overdone? The ailerons and tail surfaces are metal skinned on the real aircraft. The these should be smooth on the kit parts with maybe some rivet detail. Hopefully someone will do an aftermarket control surfaces set. Sanding off the ripples will make these parts too thin; the better approach will be to fill in the ribs with Mr. Surfacer I think.
  4. Well, first of all, it doesn’t have 43 parts. I suspect that’s the part count without the tracks. The new QB Tiger has 154 parts. The Sherman should be close to that. Second, in one of the post-launch interviews, Dale from Airfix says it has individual link tracks not the rubber band type and that was one of the big things they wanted to achieve with this new range.
  5. The new Tiger and Sherman are to true 1/35th scale and have individual link tracks instead of the rubber band tracks on the Challenger. The Challenger QB is not really a good representation of what the new models will be like.

  7. I think the chance of other variants depends on how they mould the fuselage. The Ford-built H nose is distinct and if each fuselage half is a single piece from nose to tail then it’s difficult to see how Airfix get other variants out of this kit. If the nose is separate then lots of versions are possible.

  10. Even on the original Bf 109G-6 the cowl bulges continued over the top of the cowling and merged together where they should be distinctly separate. The kit has a bunch of shape errors too along with an undernourished nose.
  11. Airfix have said that the decision to do the F-35 in simplified starter set form was at least partly based on their being a number of more detailed kits on the market. In addition, this format was seen as being more enticing to the novice or casual modelers who go to air shows and museums where Airfix products are on sale. There’s a bigger chance of an impulse buy at the starter set price point than there is at the kind of price the other F-35 kits go for
  12. I have a couple of the old Aurora 1/48 Götha G.Vs. This rerelease has to be more detailed.
  13. It’s a lot naff but it looks fine as long you don’t put it anywhere near one of the better Bf 109G kits. It’s basically the old 1960’s kit with recessed panel lines. They didn’t even get rid of the “eyebrow.”
  14. I just wish it didn’t have that stupid “eyebrow” instead of a correct representation of the cannon blisters on the cowling. There are other problems of course. If you compare it to the old G-6 tooling you’ll find it’s pretty close in shape and that means it’s too short, the tail is too small, and the cowling isn’t big enough to hold a DB 605. It has recessed panel lines but that’s about the only improvement over the old kit. Well the fit is better too. I have high hopes that this new F will be accurate if with simplified detail.

  16. The last time Airfix had a 1/72 Bf 109F in the range was back in the 1950s. I don’t think they ever released the Heller kit in an Airfix box. I predicted they would have a new starter set Bf109, however my guess was for a G-6. I’ll take it as a win.
  17. It’s not a hard rule. But, Airfix have said that, in the absence of an example to scan, they need factory drawings, photographs, etc. such that they can tool an accurate model. As you noted, they did the Whitley, which was based on drawings and documentation rather than a full 3D scan.

  19. Who says it has to be 1/24? It could be in 1/72 or 1/48, although those would directly compete with Arma Hobby and the upcoming Eduard kit.
  20. I think both the Halifax and Hampden are possible and I think at least one of them is likely, probably the Halifax. Airfix wouldn’t be Airfix without the three British WWII heavies in the range and the old Halifax tooling has long since seen its best days.
  21. The original C-130 kit was converted to an AC-130 Spectre in the 1980s. The original kit can’t be rereleased without backdating the molds.
  22. My preordered kits have been despatched and are scheduled to arrive in Connecticut on Monday. I note that Airfix has changed shipper from DHL to UPS. Hopefully, my kits will come with the coin included.
  23. In context, I just read it as being the lineup of new tool kits for 2024. I don’t see it as being a new category of kits (e.g. 1/32 aircraft) but I can see how it could be interpreted that way. I guess we’ll find out on Tuesday.
