  1. The Canadian one is not a wooden mock-up, it’s a composite parts from several aircraft, but mostly from P5436, a Canadian-built aircraft that crashed in 1942 and was recovered from 600 ft of water. The museum used wood in its reassembly to replace corroded parts of the load-bearing structure, notably the wing spars.
  2. I would not be surprised to see them do a 1/48 scale in their regular range in the not too distant future.
  3. Any F-86A (in 1/48th) is long overdue. The only kit in plastic is the 1/72 Matchbox item. I’m not counting the Lindberg atrocity that purports to be an F-86A.
  4. Also as a base for one’s entire model collection…
  5. One concern about any company doing a kit of the Hampden is them getting access to accurate data and drawings on the aircraft. As far as I know there is only one complete and assembled Hampden on display anywhere, and that’s in Canada. Does a full set of design drawings exist for ICM to scale their kit from? I’m sure ICM will do the best they can but it won’t be easy to get all the information they will need.
  6. There must have been pitot tubes somewhere; where were they relocated to?
  7. OMG! This is incredible news. I’m in for several!
  8. So it’s unlikely but also inevitable…
  9. Nothing is guaranteed except death and taxes…
  10. Hence I used the phrase “almost sure to follow” because ICM has a pattern of doing subjects in multiple scales. Also, if one of Airfix’s mystery releases this year is a 1/48 Hampden it would probably be financially unwise for ICM to go ahead with theirs. That’s just the reality of the business. I’m not saying that Airfix is going to do that, or that they have a kit in 1/72 or 1/48 planned for 2025, however two kits of the same subject, that’s not a Spitfire, P-51, or Bf 109, will dilute the market and reduce profit potential.
  11. I can now stop regretting that I sold mine (for a decent profit, mind you).
  12. Given ICMs past history of doing subjects in multiple scales, a 1/72nd scale version is almost sure to follow unless Airfix gets one out first.
  13. I was in that squadron. It is a pretty scheme; I believe it was for the A-4Ms 1994 retirement from VMA-131. However, I doubt it ever appeared with that loadout.
  14. Kit now available from Chinese sellers on eBay at around the US$60 mark, including shipping.
  15. Interesting that there are two sets of vertical tails and all the H-specific parts are on two sprues: one grey and one clear. Wonder what other versions they have planned for.
  16. The OOP kits are all easily available on the secondary market for reasonable prices but I would pick the Academy kit over the Italeri if you cannot get one of the IBG versions. Truthfully, the IBG is so much better than all the others they are barely worth considering.
  17. I heard the Dead Sea Scrolls were actually instructions on how to make one.
  18. The rarest releases have been the A-4L, A-4K, and A-4S. I’d love a couple more Ls and the Kahu. Plus, I don’t think Hasegawa ever did the Super Fox with the larger intakes.
  19. In terms of engines, the B-24 has the 109 beat: 18,000 aircraft X 4 engines = 72,000 engines and nacelles.
  20. I can imagine Tamiya releasing a 1/48 Dewoitine D.520 …. oh, wait, that actually happened! More to the point, how DID that happen exactly?
