  1. Lovely looking build, great work. The undercarriage doors are usually open while the aircraft is being worked on, or before it goes flying. During engine start the doors will close as hyd' pressure builds. shame they've gone.
  2. Cracking start Elger, got one of these in the loft so will be following this build.
  3. Cockpit tub before the hull was put together Paint going on. I painted it light ghost grey, as it seemed the closest match to the ones in the films. The solar panels were painted gun metal black, and what look to be some sort of heat exchanger was painted with burnt iron. A bit of weathering later... And now together on it's half built base, well you get the idea... Thanks for looking in.
  4. WOW, that is really great work. gonna be watching this
  5. A little while ago I had to help my nephew build a Revell Star Wars kit. I really enjoyed the break from the norm’, so when this year’s ETPS course designed a course patch with a Star Wars theme.... I had to find a TIE fighter. Well it would be rude not too. I have added and tweaked bits during the build, like the seat has been re-modelled and will have straps, and the entry hatch will have a better hinge mechanism (the original is designed to operate). The BIG question is, do I keep it grey or Raspberry ripple the thing?
  6. Thanks for the comments guys, very much appreciated. I'm working my way through the big Airfix kits too Tom. Next up is the 109, but I'll be lucky to finish it before the next ice age
  7. Well, this is it. Gonna call this one done. Although it has taken far longer than I had planned for, I'm quite happy with the result. Thanks for everyone's comments, they are very much appreciated.
  8. Progress has been very slow, mostly due to a port main leg collapse, closely followed by any desire to finish her! Anyway several months later and having abandoned her sitting lopsidedly on top of a wardrobe, I had a flash of inspiration (or guilt at abandoning her) and decided to give it another go. After stuffing some black milliput into the undercarriage bay to support both legs she's back on two and a half wheels and on the production line and dangerously close to completion. well she now sits squarely, so I'll get on with adding the breakables and finally wrap her up.
  9. Hi Pappy When the F3's retired, back in July 2012, I took on the Alpha jets, with the occasional GR4 to help keep the sanity levels up. But it's all good fun and can be very rewarding. Ian
  10. Hi Pappy, loving the build. 1. I can put your mind at rest about cockpit colours, they're grey. 2. The aircraft arrived in a black and green wrap-around scheme. Although the black looked a more charcoal grey on some airframes. 3. No stores Cheers Ian
  11. Thanks for the ideas Bob, Jens and Dek. Probably be safest not to add any extra lumps and bumps to my build. Ian
  12. Hi guys, does anyone have any idea what the lump on the spine of this 109 could be for? I've had a look through my books but can't find anything. Just curious as it could be my next project. Any help gratefully received.
  13. Nice build Tango 1, it looks to be coming along a treat. Some canopy information which may or may not be of interest/useful. The canopies on the F3s were supported with the same red “pogo stick” as used with the GRs. The canopy mechanism on the F3s and GRs is similar, but slightly different. The hydraulic jack on the GR is mounted vertically behind the cockpit, in zone 19, and operates a torque tube which is connected to a couple of rods, which can just be seen forward of the hinge point. On the F3 the same jack was mounted horizontally above “o” tank, which again operated a torque tube and rods to open and close the canopy. Cheers Ian
  14. Providing lots of inspiration with this build Dan. She’s looking really good, cracking job
