  1. And having done the Scorpion, here is some progress on the Scimitar:
  2. Love the Draken! What paints did you use? The paint scheme has a beautiful finish.
  3. What an excellent selection and outstandingly good builds. Difficult to decide which is my choice of the best one there, they are all so good. I think that the Whirlwind and JP are my front runners though!!
  4. And finally my first armoured vehicle in years (1/35th). I hope that 2011 is at least as successful. I've just worked out that in the stash, as it stands, I have at least 10 year's worth of modelling at 5 kits per year!! I think I need to speed up.
  5. Next a couple for 2 Britmodeller Group Builds; the Finnish Air Force and What If GBs. Firstly a Finnish Hawk then a Kenyan Air Force Typhoon (both 1/48th)
  6. Well 2010 proved to be a much better year than anticipated; in terms of completing models that is!! Started 8 or 9; finished 5!! So here are a couple of pictures of this year's completions. Firstly a couple of Hunters, Sultan of Oman's AF and Rhodesian AF (both in 1/72nd):
  7. Thanks Greg. I stuck the chevron as per the kit instructions, have to admit to not doing any research on whether AFV Club have/had it right. Anyone got any suggestions on the best material to use to redo the tarp covering the rear box? The kit plastic piece is just a little odd looking.
  8. Typhoon. Tempest. Mosquito. Beaufighter. Skyraider?? Apache and Cobra? Quite a few from WWI and the inter-war years. I'd be up for it. I think have a rocket armed Typhoon in the stash!
  9. Pretty much finished the Scorpion. Just got to do a bit of weathering - any suggestions? A couple of pics of the very nearly finished Scorpion (with the Scimitar WIP in the background - I really have gone over to the dark-side)
  10. Nice paint job. I think I have one of those kits in my stash somewhere; I really ought to do something with it.
  11. A little more progress on my Scorpion. Unfortunately the Christmas cheer has been getting a little better of me with a few visits to a few local hostelries interrupting modelling time.
  12. Was in my LMS at the weekend and noticed an AFV Club Scorpion on the shelves. Now I am normally an aircraft only modeller, although I did make AFVs when I was younger; much younger. However, despite having loads of aircraft kits in the the stash I have been suffering a bit of a mental block with aircraft so I thought I would treat myself to the Scorpion kit. Sat down on Sunday afternoon and cracked on with it, did a bit more last night and found myself enjoying it. I might needs some tips on weathering AFVs though (always prefer a weathered look rather than a pristine look); any tips? The kit goes together really easily and I am enjoying doing it; so much in fact that it has got to this state without me realising it. I even forgot to take some pre-build sprue shots!!
  13. Wayne I've cocked up. My ZimAF decals are in 1/48 not 1/72. Sorry!
  14. I've got some going spare. Bought the set for the Kenyan Air Force Hawk decals, but they are s o o o o wrong as to be unusable. Unlikely to use the ZimAF ones. I'll have a look and see.
  15. Finally got it finished (only 22 days late ) The first Kenyan Air Force Typhoon FGR Mk 50 from the RAF's Tranche 3 buy sold off following SDSR. And a couple more:
  16. Have a close look at your own picture. Note the white bulge behind the cockpit window? And the one by the rear door? Note the yellow square by the rear cargo door and the white object set inside it?
  17. And just to muddy the waters 201 (formerly 1 Sqn RNAS) and 120 (also with a heritage like 617 - Sqn standard awarded early by the King) are about to become available. Sadly I can't imagine the FJ dominated AFB wanting these numbers appearing in some of their fast pointy sqns!!!!
  18. Deserving winners there. Had mine beaten hands down, even if I had completed it on time :-( Well dine to everyone that did finish.
  19. A little more progress. All decal applied, just weathering, wheels, weapons and varnish to go:
  20. Cracking build there Chris. The matt paint finish looks fantastic. Is it me or does the Tucano actually quite suit a camouflage paint scheme? I also think it sounds quite spitfire-esque when it does a run in and break.
  21. And now with a couple of days off work, a bit more progress!!
  22. Damn! Looks like I have run out of time - again. Just a couple of pics on the progress so far, even if I didn't meet the end of October deadline.
  23. Nwanda Looking good so far. For your information, according to the book "Mosquito, the Illustrated History" by Philip Birtles, 60 Sqn SAAF only received 2 Mosquito IIs DD743 and DD744 which had been allocated to North Africa for hot weather trials. According to the book "De Havilland Aircraft since 1909" by A J Jackson, DD743 and 744 were NF Mk IIs. These were delivered to 60 Sqn at Castel Benito on 04 Feb 43 where a camera was installed. DD743 was lost on 05 Jul 43 and 744 was damaged and withdrawn from service on 06 Aug 43. 60 subsequently received PR Mk IV DZ553, PR Mk IXs and PR XVIs. Both books as well as a couple of others have some good (black and white) pictures of 60's later mark Mosquitos in them. Hope that helps. Looking forward to seeing the completed model
  24. That looks fantastic!! What a great technique. The F14 and Lanc look great. I will have to give this a go on my next "maritime" kit.
