  1. I've come back after several weeks of absence.... so A very precise job Jack. I've seen many problems with the colours identification starting from a b/w picture. There is a very famous example here. For many years this Fiat CR-42 has been depicted with a colour scheme of base green with green mottles and has always been considered a peculiar scheme seen anly in the Aegean area. Some years ago more accurate investigations have provede that is simply the more classical scheme with basis sand and mottles of grren and brown. Th MK Vi picture study form the b/w picture gives back an odd result. As I previously wrote you by mail the "probable correct" scheme is for the turret and from the top GREEN-WHITE-RED as used on the Lancia armoured cars of the twenties and for the front armour plate GREEN-WHITE-RED that is the official disposal of the Italian national Flags that derives from the Revolutionary French flag with green instead of blue. Any way you did a great model and nobody can judge it starting from a b/w picture interpretation. Ezio
  2. Bought the Don Taylor's figures. Very nice Ezio
  3. Very beautiful job Jack! You caught perfectly the difficult Caunter scheme. All my compliments! Ezio
  4. Thank you again Jack for the precious help. They seem valid both, especially the Dan Taylor's one. With some littl work I think they could be adapted. Ezio
  5. There's anyone among the merry gentlemen of the forum that can suggest me where I can buy some nice figures for a 1/72 British tank in the early years of war in France? For a Vicker Mk VIB I mean or similar ..... Many thanks in advance Ezio
  6. Thank you Jack, so it means for me in Italy it will take the usual one month. All the best Ezio
  7. Very interesting Jack. I visited also the IMA website. It took a long time for the delivery? Ezio
  8. Thank you Mike for your clarification. Fortunately we are following your book "Caunter scheme" I bought several years ago and using DOA colours based on the chips of the volume. You clarified us the front view colours. Indeed neither Mike nor me found an acceptable front view of yhe captured tank. Ezio
  9. Oh Jack, what episodes of the Story I've lost during my absence from this post. Very nice job. You've caught completely the appeal of this old little tank. I looked also at the flickr page and it's very interesting. I'm not yet begun to assemble my kit because I was waiting for the Osprey book you signalled me and because I had on the workbench a couple of Swordfish. I mounted only the wheels to give you an idea of the Sovereign upgrade kit. I've also bought the DOA colours for European scheme and for the Caunter one Any way I have two boxes on the stash and I'll begin with the European version. My final target will be thiis one. 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary’s Own). Ezio
  10. Thank you Smudge also for the nice picture of the W5856 interiors and for the "bad guys" of the LRDG..... Ezio
  11. Thank you Swordfish Fairey, precious details. I see that the cockpit bottom is in a colour that seems to be similar to the interior green. Well, somewhere maybe in the Tamiya guide to the kit, I read that the green bottom and the side frames in a darker green are peculiar of the RNHF plane. I suppose that this picture belongs to this Swordfish. For my one I've followed Airfix instructions painting the bottom aluminium and the frames in interior green. Very inyteresting the circular panel to arm the torpedo. It's a detail I never heard of. Ezio
  12. Thank you very much Black Knight and Swordfish Fairey (oh oh, what a name!) for the quick answer. So now I see everything clearer (or more clear?). Very interesting the Rats Tails nickname so if I do not house crew memebers on my Swordfish I shall have not to depict the belts because part of the navigator equipment. This is valid for both navigator and gunner? I suppose it's the same considering the position. The next step of my work will be the Mk.II that I left for the last one because it has many points in common with the Mk.III, the metal panel on the lower wing for the rockets launch, the fire damper exhaust .... For this one I'll mount the navigator seat in the advanced position like the Tamiya kit that I've not but that can be seen on the web. Have anyone a picture of the pilot seat belts? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! I have the Spitfire and Hurricane ones but I didn't notice that there was also the Swordfish. I adore this plane so I'll get the manuale. Thanks again
  13. One of the kits I am working at in this period is the nice Airfix Fairey Swordfish that I consider a true masterpiece especially when we think of the price and the quality. This plane is one of my "best of all" and in the past I already built an Airfix one and a Matchbox one while the Frog is still sitting on the stash. Now I've begun two versions, the classic torpedo version Mk.I and the Mk.III where I am going to use the Pavla resin detail set no. U72.134 Well, no problem with the Mk.III where I'm following the Pavla instructions sheet and where the navigator place is occupied by the "electronic", maybe electric radar equipment. But ........ then ...... My great concern is about the navigator seat position. I've several books about the Stringbag but I didn't find a clear picture of this seat. I assembled, maybe unfortunately, too much in a hurry trusting in Airfix instructions leflet. I've thought it's a British company, it's a British plane they know very well their work ..... But the in any case before closing the interiors I must solve my doubt. Now I have still a lot of work to do because I have to detail the side panels and so on .... Is it the navigator seat POSITION correct? In this position it's quite under the bulkhead that divides the pilot seat from the navigtor one. Not to easy to seetle in. Surely more confortable than standing in the Atlantic Ocean winds anyway. The second question is about the safety belts of these seats. Also in this case I didn't find clear and interesting pictures. I hope that some of you Merry Gentlemen can help me to complete these Navy glories..... All the best from Italy Ezio
  14. Trying to understand how to upload the pictures I attach this one withe the Sovereign upgrade set used ops, I'have to reduce the size for the next one.....
  15. Dear Jack, surely the profile could be interesting and attractive. I've made another little search and I found these intersting pictures I've put in a pdf file. They come from the official Italian Photo archive Istituto Luce. It's another tank, a cruiser one but if you look the turret coloured stripes you can see that they are of 3 colours and not only red and white as used in some period on British tanks. So if you compare these picture with the Vickers one I think that there is the same difference in the colours so the profile could be correct and I think that also in the lower front plate there are the same 3 colours. Most important in the archive there are the dates so we can achieve informations on the versions. We are at the beginning of the war so it's possible that are still in use the interwar colours schemes as used on this Autoblindo Lancia of the WWI and interwar era. THe other identifition markings usaed by Italian on captured tanks are usually the white crosses of the monarchy as in this image
  16. No Jack, the Echelon sheets cover these units: no. D356126: 2nd Royal Tank Regiment; 3rd Royal Tank Regiment; 1st Lothians & Border Yeomanry; and 4/7 Royal Dragoon Guards. no. D356127: 1st Fife & Forfar Yeomanry; 13/18 Hussars; 4th Royal Tank Regiment; and 7th Royal Tank Regiment. no. D356128: 1st Royal Tank Regiment; 6th Royal Tank Regiment; 7th Hussars; 9th Australian Divisional Cavalry; and 8th Hussars. The first two ones are referred to units that fought in the French Campaign. However I did a little search using the words "vickers catturati deserto" as a key and I found this article in a weel known Italian modellers forum. The topic is Vickers Mark Vi B Regio Esercito and Vickers Mk. Vi B catturato. Now I read both and then I'll post a resume of the main things that could be useful to you. From a quick reading I understood that the picture is referred to the Australian production version of the tank and for this reason we have the different turret hatch. There are at least two tanks that were captured. One in North Africa and one in east Africa. However in the topics is mentioned an article of an Italian magazine "Storia Militare" that I have at home and can check and scan by Sunday. I cannot do now because I work distant from home. All the best Ezio
  17. Good advice and good trick Jack, I'll use on the second box I have. My problem is that I am a passionate lover of this little tank so I've already bought several boxes of the Sovereign detail set and Yesterday I fell into temptation and bought the Desert Front Box....... If you like this tank Echelon Fine Details prints 3 decal sheets nos. D356126/7/8 and the third one, the only I have not, is the proper one for the version you are building. However with the decal sheet of the box that I have seen in the review link you sent me and a "good hand" is no impossible to get different evrsions also without the Echelon sheet. Thank you again and all the best Ezio
  18. Thank you Jack, your answer is very clear and I think I'll purchase also this one. Very interesting also for the walk around pictures. I saw the museum of Saumur many years ago on the road to the Normandy beaches. Unfortunately I've lost the pictures .... If my English is not so coverd by rust in the new box there are the suspension springs in plastic. This is a great news because it was a torture assemble the metal rods and spring. For the second European front kit I got the Sovereign resin detail set "S2KA017 - Vickers Light tank suspension set". All the best Ezio
  19. For many years I have been dreaming that someone decided to produce a kit of this "ancient"style light tank that can be considered the true joining link between the horse mount and the steel mount for the hussars regiments. I think only of the pictures depicting it running in the desert plains of Africa. So, I've already bought two boxes of the Vulcan models first issue, the kit no. 56008, with the purpose of assembling them in different versions. The first one of course in France and the second one in North Africa. To do this I got the Echelon first decal sheets no.1 and 2. Now I've seen that the Vulcan gentlemen issued a third box, always for the Mk, Vi B but specific for the desert front. My question is which are the differences between the boxes? It's only a matter of decals and some water/fuel additional tanks or there are true differences? I'd like to avoid an unuseful purchase .... Many thanks to all! Ezio
  20. I was searching about British troops in Italy and I found this I added to my bookmarks for future models. Maybe it's useful to you too. British Tanks Units & Markings in Italy Ezio
  21. It's not the thing you're looking for but if you are planning a diorama the brand new Airfix kit could be useful, I've just received one as a gift from a fiend of mine. I reccomedn it greatly! Ezio
  22. I'm planning to build a diorama with the first British troops that entered in Ferrara after the Argenta Gap battle. According to my readings the first troops were part of the 8th Infantry Division and in particular they should be the 1st The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (princess Louise's own) of the 19th Indian Infantry Brigade. Now I'm moving on two fronts. The historical one where I'm trying to understand if this information is true and where the 8th ID crossed the Po river on the road to Ferrara. For example I found in several sources that the 6th AD crossed the Po di Primaro (a part of the river estuary) at San Nicolò with the 2nd Lothian and Border Horse. The second one where I'm collecting all the modelling details I need. For the uniform badges and insignia I hope to have the necessary informations but I found nothing about the vehicles. The best it should be to depict an armoured car or a vehicle of the first british liberators otherwise it could be a tank of course. In some documentary I saw DUKW and Fantails but I didn't understand the codes and insignias. Does anyone can help me with these topics? Many thanks in advance and all the best from Italy Ezio p.s. sorry for my poor English, I hope you can understand me in any case
