So just to clarify - XM607 only had the Shrike pylons (supplied in the kit), and a Dash 10 jamming pod which I can find in the A04049 Airfix Buccaneer? Also, stupid question time - was the jamming pod on the port or starboard wing?
-
Very nice build and rescribe - where do I find a jamming pod? I think it's a Dash 10 type as used on Buccaneers, and was fitted to the wing underside, inboard of where the leading edge changes direction?
-
Sorry! Reading the associated books I'd assumed a lot more would have been added for the raid. Thanks for the information, it's very helpful
-
Thanks for the feedback - at the moment I'm leaning towards XM607 or one of the options from the Freightdog 'Gods of Sea and Fire' sheet. What do I need to scratch build for XM607?
-
Hello all, In my lengthy build queue is an Airfix Vulcan which will be built sometime after my GCSEs, and I was wondering what changes I need to model the following: XM607 circa Black Buck One XH558 in current condition XM575 circa 1970 In addition, is there any 'must-have' aftermarket? I've been looking at the various Two Mikes, Wolfpath, and SAC upgrade sets. Thanks in advance

Thanks for that - I'm happy modifying the XIX canopy, as to be honest I think XIX fuselage and IX wings are the easiest (read: laziest) way to a reasonable XIV. If I do this, then that gives me an IX fuselage and XIX bowser wing, which I can combine to make a PR.X/XI. However I do agree with your point that it would be easier to modify a Mk. I kit and its wings for a PR. I/IV - I'll just have to learn how to tackle rescribing and vac canopies.
-
Apologies! I do mean in 48th - thanks for the XIII information.
-
Thanks for all the feedback In reply I was planning on the first Mk.III, N3297, in itsearly condition - so Merlin XX engine, clipped wings, and retractable tailwheel. As for the PRXIII - I presume an Airfix Vb would be the better starting point?
-
The release of the Airfix PRXIX got me thinking about a few conversions - are they feasible? Mk. III - modified Airfix Mk. I Mk. IV - Airfix XII fuselage + Airfix Mk. I wings PR. IV - Airfix Mk. I fuselage + Airfix PRXIX bowser wing PR. X and PR. XI - Hasegawa IX fuselage + Airfix PRXIX bowser wing (ignoring the inaccurate fuselage) PR. XIII - modified Airfix Mk. I Mk. XIV - Hasegawa IX wing + Airfix PRXIX fuselage FR. XVIII - Aeroclub fuselage + Hasegawa IX wings FR. 21 - Airfix PRXIX fuselage + Airfix 22/24 wings Seafire Mk. 45 - Airfix PRXIX fuselage + Airfix Seafire 46 wings A lot of this probably isn't the best way to do it, but it's cheaper and more convenient, especially as I have the bits for the FRXVIII and don't want to waste the Hasegawa fuselage. So what do you think?

Obsolete Kit Group build
PilotOfficer replied to AnonymousDFB1's topic in Future Group Build Archives
I wonder if I could join? I have the following in the Stash: - Old Airfix Mustang - Matchbox P47 - Airfix Beaufighter - Old Airfix Swordfish - Airfix Grumman Wildcat so I could build one or more of these if that's OK? -
I think I'll do that, I have a few other kits which might be good for that GB so I'll post in the appropriate thread.
-
Hello, What's the Matchbox P47 like in terms of accuracy etc. - are there any glaring errors? I think a fuselage rescribe would be in order, possibly a vacform canopy, or would I be better off doing a straight OOB build seeing as the kit has been superseded? Thanks in advance
-
Well, I certainly never expected this much advice - thanks everyone - just to clarify, I was hoping to make the LSG/DE/MSG desert scheme. I think I will wait before getting a donor kit though, I have a few kits on the bench already and I might get something suitable for Christmas.
-
Thanks all, I'll probably go for the Revellgawa kit as a donor (will have to see how cheaply I can find it)...now where do I find 48th decals for an F Mk. 18?
-
Hmm, I thought I could fill in the holes on the Airfix XII wings and use the radiators supplied with the Aeroclub conversion. Probably not, so, Revellgawa or ICM wing?
-
Hello again, At Telford I picked up an Aeroclub conversion (the Mk.14/18 fuselage) and I've been wondering: 1. Can I use the wings from an Airfix Spitfire Mk.XII? 2. If not, which kit would make the best donor?
-
I'd like to, but I'm afraid they're more than 25% started.
-
Thanks all, I'll do a schoolboy build, convert it to an E-7 using spares from the old Airfix kit, tape seatbelts, but nothing else. It's going to be built alongside the old Airfix, new Airfix, and the Hasegawa. Happy days!
-
Hello, While on holiday I bought the old 1:72 Revell Bf109E to build in tandem with some other kits. I'm aware it's a bit of a dog, but are there any problem areas/inaccuracies? The canopies look like they might be troublesome - can anything be done about this, and what variant of the E model does the kit represent?
-
Hello, I am about to use Microsol and Microset for the first time, and I wanted to know if either can be applied by brush? And if so, how should I clean the brushes afterwards? Will water suffice? Thanks in advance.
-
Hello, I apologise if this question has been asked before, but do Xtracrylix or Humbrol have a good match in their range for the WW1 green/brown colour? I think Humbrol have discontinued 108, and I can't find a specific paint in the Xtracrylix range.

Spitfire IX E/C Conversion
PilotOfficer replied to Paul A H's topic in Aftermarket (updates/conversions)
Although the Sword kit looks nice, the Heller is cheaper, and I was wondering if I could use the exhausts from the conversion as the ones on the Heller don't look quite right? -
Spitfire IX E/C Conversion

The set looks very nice, but could I use any of the parts on the Heller Spitfire XVI? -
The attempt to turn a pigs ear to Silk purse!
PilotOfficer replied to Nobby's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
She looks fantastic Nobby; can I ask a silly question though? How are you planning to fit the exhausts, as I can't see a slot? -
Hello, I have experienced problems with brush painting certain Humbrol colours - namely 65 and 123 (both acrylic). When I paint them, the paint seems to 'catch' on the surface and does not flow easily, so the finish is thick and nasty: 1. Is it just me? 2. Is it possible I just have a bad batch? (although I've had problems with more than one pot) 3. Any possible solutions? Will I need to thin the paint, for instance?
