  1. The 3D printed CMK exhaust petals are an excellent upgrade to the kit. The kit parts have nice detail to the outer surfaces but this is hidden as they sit against the wall of the exhaust. The kit parts have no detail on the inner surfaces. The CMK ones have nice detail on the inner surfaces. I painted the exhaust Tamiya Dark iron first then overcoated it with Alcad Exhaust Manifold. Finally, I dry brushed the parts it with Model Master Jet Exhaust. I used to use this all the time but some reason had stopped using it. Recently when listening to a Model Geeks Podcast, they recommended dry brushing with Model Master Chrome. This prompted me to drag out the Jet Exhaust. Sadly, I think this paint is no longer produced but it is excellent for dry brushing metal. Installation is pretty simple.
  2. Fit of the Tub into the kit is excellent The Two Mikes (Phase Hangar) intakes fit well enough. I did find out later that the lips need to be thinned down a bit when you put the intake mouths on. They also need to be painted silver so that they are in white resin is kinda meaningless. You can’t really see much down there.
  3. I had some issues with paint adhesion to the plastic parts. I never wash my sprues before I work on them. Never had to. First I had tried some Mr Hobby light grey. I then cleaned the piece with Mr Color Thinners and shot Mr Color Paint. Similar result. Same happened when painting the inside the fuselage. I washed all sprues but it was still happening, albeit not as bad. In end I shot Mr Surfacer Primer 1000 first then painted the base colour or Mr Color Light Aircraft grey. The Red Fox set was attached with a white glue (Deluxe Materials Glue and glaze). The detail on the rear cockpit walls is pure fiction. Reference photos show detail there but the kit and Red Fox set have nothing. I used bits from spares box to busy it up. The CMK seat was painted with Vallejo acrylics and some JiraGIO Decal placards were applied.
  4. it's been a while since Ove posted a WIP here so I figured i should try and post this one. For me the Viggen was one of those aircraft I loved from the firs time I saw it in the pages of Airplane magazine, jumping out of the centrefold in that amazing splinter camouflage. When I returned to modelling it was one of the subjects I wanted to build. But sadly, the only kit in 40 scale was the Airfix/ESCI offering which wasn’t great. When Tarangus / Special Hobby released their 48 scale kit I was always going to get it, and I was always going to do it in that splinter scheme. I chose the AJ-37 version as I preferred the ground attack variant over the JA-37 fighter version. First step was to accumulate some aftermarket and definitely a mask set. Because I didn’t do proper research I’ve bought things I don’t’ need and not bought things I do so there was more purchase made after these photos where taken.
  5. Thanks, name spelt the proper way as well
  6. Thanks, My favourite Armour scale as well. Thanks Thanks It really is a fantastic kit. I'd like to build another . Just need to figure out a scheme.
  7. This is my third Eduard P-51D. You can see the first here and second here. The third was to be another bare metal aircraft as bare metal is not something I feel I'm particularly good at. I chose this one from from Eduard's Chattanooga Choo Choo Boxing after seeing Spencer Pollards build online. I do like the Eduard P-51, but it's a fiddly kit to build and rewards patience. There is article on my blog for this build and it contains a list of the issues I've found building these kits.
  8. Depicted as generic tank from a Middle Eastern Army. I wanted to do something other than an all green Warsaw Pact machine. In the end I went for a generic vehicle using a lot of images found online of other peoples models and actual machines. I also used Martin Kovac's (Uncle Nightshift) build of the T-55 as inspiration. The result is a bit of a cliché tank. That said I do like the finished result. Aftermarket used was a fuel tank set from MP Originals. There is an article on the build at my blog but here are some photos
  9. Can't you tint it to colour you want noting there are various shades canopy tints on the real aircraft?
  10. Excellent photos. I may have to look at one of those tours
  11. Nice set of images Greg despite the sadly typical (for Australian airshows) conditions.
  12. Yeah , I just didn't have the energy (or imagination) for a base. But Harrier Hide diorama would look good.
  13. Thanks for the Kind words everyone. I am pretty happy with the result. Yeah on the underside there is . I can be avoided if you don't do what I did
  14. Kinetics 1/48 BAe Harrier Gr.3. Not a bad kit overall. Done as a 4 Sqn Cold War machine . Thanks to Nick from the Harrier SIG for his help. Any errors are mine. There is a full build article at my blog along with some more photos of the finished model in another post I used the following Aftermarket Phase Hangar Resin Centreline Pylon Phase Hangar Resin Outriggers and Wheels Reskit Wheels Reskit Matra 155 Rocket Pods Aires Exhausts (for the Sea Harrier) Quickboost Scoops Eduard Seat Belts Master Models Pitot (modified) Eduard Steel RBF Tags (pylons) HGW Fabric RBF tags (Outriggers) Anyway here's some photos I couldn't resist snapping a couple of shots beside it's Cold War contemporary, the Jaguar.

    ICM 2023

Absolutely, and none would be better sellers than the Marauder.
  16. Thanks Ray, No, cut and paste error . Thanks I've fixed it
  17. 2022 modelling wise, was pretty good despite only managing seven completions. I put this down to the number of jets I got through this year. As usual nearly every jet kit I built took longer than I planned, the one exception being the Vampire. The breakdown this year includes four jets, two props and single 48 armour piece. There plans for another 48 armour piece but I have lost interest in that genre for now. Hopefully it will return shortly. Anyway enough waffle, no one reads it anyway. But if you are interested in more detail on of any builds my 2022 blog post has links to each of the builds. 1/48 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire 1A - No. 603 Sqn RAF Eduard's excellent MK 1 Spitfire. The best kit of this subject in 48 scale IMHO. Built straight from the box including the decals. Depicted as aircraft R6835 XT-W flown by a New Zealand Ace Brian J. Carbury, 1/48 Tamiya Su-122 Self-Propelled Howitzer Tamiya's fun little Su-122 again straight from the box. I think I managed to fluke winning 2022 NSW Scale Model Show's Panzer tracks trophy with this one. The base work was actually a lot of fun. 1/48 Hasegawa A-4C Skyhawk - Argentine Air Force - "Malvinas" Hasegawa's A-4C in the attractive Argentine scheme. This kit was built as an entry for the 2022 NSW Scale Model Show's 40th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict category. It was also built to take part in the Model Geeks Podcast's A-4 Skyhawk Group build. It includes some 3D printed bombs a friend printed up for me and an Aerobonus pilot. 1/48 Eduard Mirage IIICJ "Shahak" As a kid I had a aircraft magazine with a fold out of an Israeli Mirage or Nesher with those big yellow triangles so it was inevitable that I'd want to add one to the cabinet. The kit took a bit of work but I was happy with the result. I decided to paint the markings rather than use the decals and I reckon they came out well. 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18E Super Hornet VFA-87 Golden Warriors This was supposed to be a quick build alongside a mate who was building the Meng kit (click here for his build). It ended up blowing out to 5 months for a number reasons. From the reference photos I collected I know this actual jet wasn't as weathered as I have modelled but I wanted to do a relatively heavily weathered low viz aircraft so accuracy in that department went out the window. All in all I was pretty happy with the result. 1/48 Airfix de Havilland Vampire F.B. Mk.5 - No 75 Sqn Royal New Zealand Air Force After the Superhornet I wanted a quick and easy palette cleanser (or slammer build in the new parlance). I had a couple of the new Airfix Vampires in my “For Sales pile that weren’t looking like being sold anytime soon so despite having little interest in the subject it went to the bench. A simple relatively well fitting kit that turned out to be my most enjoyable build of the year. Would have been even simpler if I'd done it in flight. Built form the box bar the after market decals to make an RNZAF machine. 1/48 Airfix Supermarine Spitfire FR MK XIVe - 17 Sqn Royal Air Force - Japan 1946 Last completion for 2022 was the subject for the 2023 NSW Scale Model Shows Airfix Cup. Not Airfix's best work I'm afraid but I was still happy with the result. I chose this unusual scheme from a post WW II Spitfire based in Japan. Decals are from Freightdog and there was a bit of aftermarket thrown at it as well. Now for a couple that didn't get over the line. Hopefully these will feature in next years yearbook. 1/48 Fly Strikemaster Mk 88 Impulse buy and build. A modelling new years resolution is to ignore those. I got bogged down 3D designing the Pylons and getting them printed. I have a feeling Airfix will get tot he Jet Provost / Strikemaster family just after I finish this. 1/48 Tamiya T-55 I want to do a middle eastern subject but got bogged down trying to chose a scheme. At this stage I have decided to copy bits and pieces from other peoples T-55's and come up with a fictional vehicle. I just need to get the finger out.
