  1. So I have done some work, not just admired everyone elses 😄

I'm a slow worker especially as I've fallen down (again) the rabbit hole that is research, my current obsession is situational mapping so there has been a lot of time spent finding and staring at maps of Normandy marked with positions etc.

Anyway, I actually started as the instructions suggest which is on the running gear. This kit has torsion bars that allow the wheels to move up and down similar to the real thing.  No major issues there (very little cleanup), except for one torsion bar that was bent. No great shakes, I just worked out which side it needed to go in based on it sitting lower, so that when the weight is on it, it should sit flush with the rest. I've also added the reduction gear housings which are shaped differently for each side, so I had to remember that before attaching them!

AFV Club also decided to add a spring mechanism to the rear idlers and/or track tension mechanism.  You're not forced to use it, you can just glue it all in place if you want but it should make it easier to fit the working tracks (fingers crossed). You can also see the bent torsion bar in the next photo. I heated up a flat-head screw driver over a flame and pushed on to the plastic to add the lips to stop the springs from popping off.

I've cleaned up and built the wheels and sprockets. I've done the same for the driver and radioman hatches and I'm going to try and keep them workable (option in the kit) to aid in painting of the persicopes plus I may decide to add some crew.

Ive taken all the major components for the turret off the sprue and cleaned them up, there will be some fettling required to get everything lined up properly but before any glue touches it, I'll need to scribe the top plate to add the weld line as AFV Club have got the roof wrong.

Next up is a review of all the bits I need to do before attaching a slightly warped top hull to the bottom, things like blanking tool clamp location holes, boxing in the rear grilles from underneath, that sort of thing.  I've received my two-part epoxy for the zimmerit now too and I'm quite looking forward to it.

    Cheers!

  2. That’s a shame. Although I love the look of Friuls I’m reluctant to buy them as they are 50% of a new tank… I’ve had a similar issue with my Meng KT, after hours making sure the suspension was level, I put the kit tracks on and they are a link too short for a good looking sag. Sapped the mojo out of that build completely. Feel your annoyance mate!

The white is overspray from priming the interior, just in case any of it is visible through the open hatch.

Will you be able to see through the cavern that is that mortar too?

Looking good, like your idea with the foam too.

I have a solution for you :) when you box in the voids under the grilles leave a very slight gap on the front side just below the deck. Paint everything black. When dry put some making or insulation tape on the inside of the grille then add the boxes below.

When you've finished painting get a grip of the tape through the turret opening and pull gently and it's done. The tiny slot won't let in enough light to matter. For extra benefit apply the exterior colour at an angle leaving the bottom of the slats black which really makes them pop.

Excellent idea, will look into that, the fact there is a gaping hole when the turret isn’t on completely escaped me 😂

    Thanks!

  5. Looking good, did you just use a round file for the exhaust shields or something more fancy?

My plan for the rear deck void on mine was to just blank it off with some black plastic card, but presumably the paint while spraying the camo etc will reach the card and make it look odd. Perhaps a box or as you say, just paint the internals black as they are… 🤔
