1/72 Revell Avro Lancaster B.III Special "Dambuster"
Val replied to Val's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Cheers Ian, yes you're quite correct about the low level flying. I'll add some subtle weathering I think to represent this. I just found a black and white pic of AJ-C after your reply and it looks beaten to heck!! I won't go over the top. You're quite right about the exhaust staining. I remember someone posting some pics of a restored merlin spit before and after a flight. I couldn't believe how much stuff the Merlin through out after just one flight! Thanks for your reply mate Val -
Awesome paint work!

1/72 Revell Avro Lancaster B.III Special "Dambuster"

Hi all, She's alive!! I've done some work to her! I've undercoated with Vallejo Poly Primer: I've not worried about masking the front turret off as ultimately it's going to black anyway. And I've got the dark earth on too, using Mr Hobby H072 which I lightened only slightly in places. I figured these aircraft were spec built and didn't get a lot of use in the dambuster configuration so weathering will be restrained. Not worrying about any form of preshading. I might post shade a couple of panel lines around the engines where I guess they might have got a bit more grubby. However I will weather her a bit more if someone says they did get very dirty very quickly and/or I mess the paintwork up and have to disguise it in weathering (likely)! More soon maybe! Val -

I've not forgotten about these builds. I've decalled 80% of the silver one. The Red Arrows one, however, we've fallen out. I just can't get the gloss right. Sooo this is the new look of her: She's since been reprimed and I'll have another go. The issue is I used Tamiya polishing compounds to get the gloss up to a mirror. That in itself worked fine. What didn't work fine is that the compound get stuck in the panel lines and I ruined the paintwork getting it out. So, a rethink is in order. She's been IPA'd, as pictured. The cockpit isn't as nice as it once was, but it'll do. She's become an experiment in gloss work. So the action plan. Repaint in red as before. Give her several gloss coats, a tough acrylic (Mr Color or Tamiya), and then polish her up with my micromesh kit. If that doesn't work, she's going to be a matt red Red Arrow and vow to never do a gloss aircraft again! Cheers, Val

Great work so far, coming on a treat! I thought exactly the same thing when I got the Eduard limited edition Harrier kit from last year. Don't get me wrong, what you get in the kit is great. Lovely decals , photoetch and resin. But the one thing you don't get is the engine nozzles in resin. These, for me, are the most important to replace as it's so tough getting the kit ones right. So I've bought the brassin nozzles too!- 105 replies

Looking good there Iain, coming on a treat! Great work on the roundels. I tried to mask the roundels on my recent Zero with limited success. I weathered the heck out of her so i got away with it!

Kit manufacture: Bandai Scale: 1/72 Type: TIE/FO First Order Tie Fighter Extras used: None. Paints and colours used: Stynylrez Primer, Tamiya Rubber Black, German Grey, Sand Yellow, Vallejo Model Color paints for hand painting, Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium, Flory Black and Sand wash, Tamiya Matt coat. Water mixable oil paints for dry brushing. Other info: Full build is here : http://florymodels.websitetoolbox.com/post/172-bandai-first-order-tie-fighter-8329956?trail=15 Hi all! First finish of the year and January isn't even in double figures yet! Actually, I was doing this on a group build on some other forums, and missed the end of year deadline... oops! Anyway, she's done now, see what you think The kit is brilliant. Amazing. Stunning. Mind blowing. I made the original Tie fighter, which is also basically perfect, and they've actually improved this slightly. I didn't do too much to this to be honest, I tried to keep it simple. I went for Rubber Black so the black isn't too strong, and dry brushed with water mixable oils to bring the detail out a bit. The base is just neat Tamiya Sand Yellow airbrused on from quite a distance and washed, then lightly drybrushed. So here are the pics: And that's about it! Thanks for looking, Val
