  1. Another rare but very interesting British subject, and also very well done.
  2. Very good job in creating an interesting and fairly rare subject, all the extra work needed for this really paid off.
  3. That is really good, very well finished, and interesting to look at with plenty of detail.
  4. Starting to look really good now, the detail and finishing looks to be of a high standard - anticipating a top rate model when this is finished.
  5. Well, finally got the 43 Oerlikons built, painted and fitted, only to notice I'd miscounted and needed and an extra 6 - so finally also got those finished and fitted - now well into fitting the rigging. Very close now to her finishing at the builders yard and being handed over to the Navy - that will mean starting the aircraft, crew, and accessories (at long last).
  6. I've just had another look at this and think it looks great, and is very well finished - is there a build log for this? Would you be able to advise what main paint colour reference you used for the main colour? I'm particularly interested as I'm planning on building some U.S. army vehicles/armour from the Vietnam conflict in the new year, so am picking up various tips on the way.
  7. My goodness, that is incredible finishing! Great work.
  8. Nice to see these made up and finished - I remember the kit from years ago. I see the real things in my garden most days, so it's actually a very topical subject!
  9. That captures a good historic scene, well thought out and executed.
  10. Thanks All. It's like this factory scene below (in miniature) in my model room at the moment, and probably will be for a while .
  11. I've enjoyed watching the build of this on the build log, and have to say it is supreme, top rate; excellent finishing from top to bottom, from beginning to end. Very well done indeed!
  12. They are nice little models, made by Master Models from their 'Sea Master' series, and come in packs of 20. These I would highly recommend. http://www.master-model.pl/product/sm-350-050.html Actually, I've just noticed Master do their own quad 40mm Bofors mount, I wonder whether to get a set to try them out , their build method looks so much better than Veteran's.
  13. This should be a very substantial and impressive build! Look forward to watching from the sidelines.
  14. They really were a struggle to build, and I'm not pleased with the outcome considering the time expended - not really worthy of any close ups (may still need to come off and have some rework done). Anyway, moving on now - the 20mm Oerlikon mounts - First one built up as a trial (needs a bit of tweaking) - although much smaller, this went together much better than the 40mm Bofors mounts! Just 42 more to make up now - will report back probably some time in 2019
  15. This is a really good build and nicely finished. The focus on the two aircraft add a nice feature to the overall appearance.
  16. Just read through this build; I think you've done a great job on this 'raw' kit of an interesting subject from an era of the R.N. that seems rarely covered; she is certainly looking all the better for it now.
  17. That's a good looking collection of U.S. carriers there, very good work. The Meng USS Lexington has come out really well.
  18. This is looking fabulous! The quality of some of the builds on this forum is extraordinary, and this is amongst the best.
  19. This is perhaps a better view of four of the eight mounts. (Note to self: Hmm, the cover plates over the arrester cable pulleys need dulling down quite a bit)
  20. Making frustratingly slow but steady progress. The Veteran Models quad Bofors were a real pain; the detail of all the small parts is exquisite, but they just don't want to go together and stay together, particularly the barrels which have no locating holes or anything to align or help them stay in place. Still endlessly tweaking the barrels to get the best alignment, which can be seen in these photos. Moving on to the 20mm mounts next, should be a lot easier, even the rigging should be a sinch in comparison.
  21. That looks really impressive, nicely finished.
  22. I believe the CV-8 elevators were similar to the CV-9 class elevators as built (excluding the port side deck edge elevator), but also be aware that they were generally changed during the 1950s, including the forward elevator, so references from the preserved museum ships may not give an accurate representation of the wartime Essex class elevators. The best bet is to look through the excellent Navsource US ship photo archive, have a look at the Yorktown class and wartime Essex class photos to make comparisons as there are a few photos from the hanger deck. http://www.navsource.org/archives/02idx.htm The above photo is c/o NavSource.org - showing the centre elevator on CV-8 - this is similar to that of the Essex class. One of the pair of guides is visible, and it was raised by a pair of large direct acting hydraulic jacks underneath the elevator platform. Post edit: the CV-5 Yorktown page on NavSource.org has a full set of downloadable .pdf plans, the elevator layouts are visible in these plans at each deck level.
  23. This looks fairly epic in scale and complexity of subject. However, a good choice of subject; these were the most attractive and impressive destroyers in the cold war R.N.
