1:350 - BB63, USS Missouri - (photos reloaded)
Rob 1 replied to Rob 1's topic in Ready for Inspection - Maritime
Thanks all. I recall we discussed the start of our Missouri builds on another forum Frank, and moved on to discussing our Warspite projects, which should be my next topic to post soon. -
Wow, superb model, and lovely classic subject. Well done.

Well done, that build looks good and does the Type 45 justice.

Thanks everyone. The blast bags are moulded onto the base of the gun barrel parts. They are nicely formed and look good, but the down side is there's no option to have the barrels elevated (without a fairly major scratch mod of the blast bags). One poor feature with the barrels is they are solid at the muzzle end, so all the ends needed drilling out! I also saw the replacement foc'sle, but it was a bit costly, and not sure myself what the issue was the original one so I decided to stick with the kit one. With the camo scheme, I went with the Measure 22 partly as I prefer the claen look of it, but also because all her action at Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Japan in '45 was when wearing the Measure 22 scheme. -
Mirage Hobby - 1:350 Type IX U-Boat

Thanks. The S-boat is one of the little White Ensign kits. They do quite a good range of coastal craft in 1:350 (S-boats, MTBs, MGBs, PT boats etc), which are very nice little kits, complete with full details, photo etch etc. -
Mirage Hobby - 1:350 Type IX U-Boat

Thanks. There are hazards to working on small models in this scale. That Sunderland above is lucky to still be in existance, as I took it to our club meeting after finishing it (as we take our latest builds and display them all on a table at our meetings), and despite putting it on a display base, one of our members (who generally models large scale aircraft) failed to spot it and plonked a large cardboard box on top of it while packing his kits away. Fortunately the damage was minimal, and I did see the funny side afterwards. -

Thanks for the kind comments. I like to put signs of life on my ships, and adding crew is the fun part, and the finale to completing the build. -

Ah, ok, thanks, I'll get them re-hosted shortly. -
I'd love an earlier Town class, but the prospect of converting a Belfast to a Sheffield sounds too daunting to me. I'll just hold out some forlorn hope that they may release one at some point in the future .

Very well finished, great subject too. -
Excellent work. That does great justice to this legendary battleship at a most historically momentous event.

Mirage Hobby - 1:350 Type IX U-Boat

Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated. I've picked up another 1:350 U-Boat kit, a Type VII, and also finished a 1:350 Sunderland (L'Arsenal kit) as below. I'm wondering about a nice little diorama with a low flying surprise attack? -
What a great idea for a dio! There's a few detailed and emotive photos of sunk or abandonedJapaneseships at the end of their war which always captures my interest, and modelling one of them is such a good idea, and really well executed.

Great work, very nicely finished. 'Udaloys' are good looking ships anyway, but you've really done it justice. -

That is stunning modelling! Excellent work, well done. -
I'm posting photos on here for the first time, I hope they're of interest. I completed this Mirage Hobby Type IX kit late last year, but wanted a bit of a diorama to show her returning after an arduous mission in the Altlantic. It was a bit of an excuse to go to town on some weathering (which is probably well overdone, but was partly experimental and fun to do), and to portray an image of a quiet and relatively annonymous return after a long mission. A bit of quayside with couple of officers and a couple of workers were added to set the scene, along with an older S-Boat alongside (which I enjoyed doing as a reminder of the larger Airfix one built many years ago).

Been watching this thread for a while now ... looks great!
-
Presumably Trumpeter's Queen Elizebeth could be released as Valiant with minimal modification. If a Barham was produced, I think Malaya was fairly similar so could perhaps be released with minimal changes. That would have the whole class covered (for WWII).
-
Well done, that is a great build of this classic ship.

I checked out the options when buying some a few months ago, and in my opinion L'Arsenal figures won hands down, and I ordered both available sets for maximum number of poses.

That is an awesome level of detail, and beautifully put together. Reading through this thread, it represents the pinnacle of model shipbuilding today, on the mother of all battleships. -
That's very nicely done, good overall finishing and detailing. It certainly does do justice to the might 'Hood'
