Scratchbuild HMS Victorious as in 1966
Rob 1 replied to bootneck's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
This is quite a project - you have my admiration. Good luck, we'll be watching with interest. -
Done some research, particularly looking at WWS (as the link in the post above) and I just ordered myself one of their Pro Grass Micro static applicators, along with a selection of grasses (2mm, 4mm, 6mm), and their layering adhesive. Although they call it 'micro' it is far from micro, but not as large as their full size version. They also do a new 'precision' applicator with a smaller unit on a cable for getting into tight corners and small spaces, but that's not what I need (for now anyway). Looking forward to it arriving and giving it a go; if it's as good as it looks, it will really re-invigorate my desire for all model making (aside from ship building), as I can give them all much better decent display bases.

Very good looking Dreadnought, nicely finished and presented.

Trumpeter 1/350 Uss James E Williams DDG-95

That is exceptional finishing and weathering, well done. -
Very good, lots of nice detail in this legend of a battle cruiser.

Various 1/350 work in progress (an introduction of sorts)
Rob 1 replied to Sal82's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
I agree, those are very good looking well finished ships. -

Good work so far. Those new gun barrels are a massive improvement over the originals, well worth changing.- 99 replies

This looks great, excellent work. Also, good to see her in those very early days while still flying the F-4s, very nice to see.

Revell Platinum 1/144 USS Fletcher
Rob 1 replied to scottbowsher's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Wow, that Platinum kit looks really comprehensive - may add one to my wishlist. Will enjoy watching this build. -
Looks like some prayers might be getting answered - as well as Exeter and York, it's looking like 1:350 County class cruisers may be on the way!

Excellent work all round! I do like to see well painted 1:35 figures .

Thanks for the above comments chaps. I'm finally starting the aircraft now, beginning with the TBMs. Now there's a new challenge - I love the glass canopies on the Trumpeter aircraft models, but they are all closed , however all the many photos show they are always left open on deck (even often flown with them open) - so next challenge is how to open the canopies on my little Trumpeter models. Some experimentation is going to be required. I don't suppose anyone else has ever tackled this before? Oh, and Season's Greeting to All

This level of scratch-building is not an area I've really strayed into before so am watching with interest.

1/72 USN 80' Elco PT Boat with some mods
Rob 1 replied to JohnWS's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Looking good, I think a grey option would be good (if I was choosing). By the way, the work space looks really smart; great framed pictures on the walls, and all the F-14s look superb -
That looks a truly excellent build - top notch in clean precision, well done. Hope the virus clears up soon, I know what a miserable thing that can be, especially during the festive season.

Thanks All The Jeeps are from L'Arsenal, they are very nice little castings, and come ten in a pack, so plenty of spares for future diorama use. That's a good idea to do some tow bars, should be reasonably straight forward to make (and I have one or two reference photos) The figures are all North Star - I got a couple of sets recently (one from Starling Models stand at the last Great North Model show in Tyneside), they are very fine castings. I like L'Arsenal resin figures too, but will use mainly North Star figures for this build. Will add plenty more more aircraft deck team members when I've got the aircraft done and placed.

Knocked up some little 1:350 Jeeps for the deck: Getting on to the fun bits now

Although you are doing a fine job on this one at 1:350, it's looking very good.

The Last Battleship - HMS Vanguard 1/350
Rob 1 replied to andrewa's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Oh yes, good progress - and looking good. -
This look like it's coming along nicely. Funny thinking about it's size, as after building the odd 1:700 sub, this would seem quite big in 1:350
-
Thanks Bendinggrass. Well, she has now been handed over to the Navy, the ensign has been raised and there's a small crew on board (about 20 figures so far). Time to start on the aircraft now, and will add a load more deck crew later.

That's a really good rendition of the classic 'S10' kit, very nice overall and lots of interest to keep the viewer engaged.
-
That is really neat! Loads of excellent detail, and looks good overall too, and the whole subject captures the imagination really well.

Excellent display base, very realistic bit of scenery.
