  1. Just wondering if I'm the only one these links don't work for?
  2. The way the canopies have been done is a major fail for me at least. Unless the sprue feeds into the clear parts only on their lower edges, removing the 'scars' where they're attached to/removed from the sprue will (like the Tamiya 1/32 kits) be virtually impossible. Resin replacements (whether from Aerocraft or anyone else) will be expensive, it's just the nature of the beast.....and they shouldn't be needed if the kit manufacturer has done a proper job in the design department. Not saying I wouldn't buy one, but it wouldn't be a 'must have' either.
  3. The rivet detail looks way too pronounced to me as well. To be honest, I'm not seeing anything that would lead me to ditch the Tamiya ones already in the stash and replace them with these.....
  4. I've no idea how Corsairs were constructed, but the Tamiya 1/32 kit's fuselage is covered in rivet detail and I don't recall any adverse comments being made about that.....(and just for the record I hate all rivet detail, period!).
  5. That depends on whether they're raised or recessed.....in my experience filling in engraved rivets is both a royal pain in the you-know-what and rarely completely successful.
  6. Same for me, I've never understood the whole 'fascinated by rivets thing' at all. Maybe in 1/24, or in 1/32 if very restrained, but in 1/48 - no thanks!
  7. Unfortunately not so in my experience.....I've given up on ordering anything from suppliers outside the EU, when you add the VAT and customs charges it quickly becomes a very expensive proposition!
  8. I'd have to disagree with that assessment. The Airfix kit might have been OK when it was issued years ago, but if I was building a 1/48 Fury - which I'd love to do - I'd start with this kit over the Airfix one any day (admittedly based only on the pics. in this thread). Yes, the fasteners are over-done, but I can't see much else that I don't like and - as you say - a sanding stick will take care of them pretty quickly.
  9. Nothing but grey rectangles for me too.....and pictures show up in any other build logs/RFIs that I've looked at.
  10. Now that you mention it, that all rings a bell. The only Esci kits of which I still have examples in the stash are the MB 326, Mirage F.1 and S-3 Viking, all of which have quite good engraved panel lines. However, when I think about it I also - many years ago now - vaguely recall building some others (e.g., the A-4, A-7, F-8 and G-91) that had raised panel lines.
  11. Very nice. I've often been tempted to buy that kit but have never done so, concluding that it's in the 'life's too short' category! Funny thing is that I would have been prepared to swear on a stack of bibles that Esci kits of that era had engraved panel lines.....rose-tinted glasses, perhaps, or maybe I'm just a bit further along the road to losing my few remaining marbles than I thought!
  12. I don't want to rain on your parade, but since when has Tamiya ever been known to act logically? If they did, we'd have had a whole 'family' of F-16 versions (years ago) in 1/48 and several F-4 versions either already issued or announced for future release in the same scale.....
  13. This is really turning into a very interesting discussion, but it's way past my bedtime so that's where I'm now headed. However, I'll probably evacuate the stern gland into the drip tray before doing so in order to ensure an uninterrupted night's sleep.....😇
  14. Sounds to me like that could lead to some very uncomfortable seepage? Sorry, I just couldn't resist the lure of the seemingly wide-open goal.....
  15. Looking at mine I'm thinking that it would be easier to make all of the vanes from plastic card using the set provided as a template. Easier to cut/shape than brass and much easier to attach - no faffing around with tiny brass parts and even tinier amounts of cyanoacrylate or epoxy?
  16. Thanks for that, all very interesting. I knew that the first F-20 prototype had an F-5E canopy but I never knew that it wasn't really an F-20 at all!
  17. But if it was easy it wouldn't be half as much fun, would it? 🙂
  18. Neat build and display idea. However I'm in what seems to be a very small minority in that I just don't like the Wingsy 1/48 Bf 109E series. To me, the rivet detail (particularly noticeable on the cowling) is really overdone and ruins the whole appearance of what is otherwise seemingly a very accurate kit.
  19. Well, that's something a little bit different anyway! I particularly like that you didn't go crazy with the weathering, so many people ruin perfectly good builds that way these days.
  20. Can't help with the paint shade, I'm afraid, but note that the aircraft painted in the red/white scheme actually had an F-5E canopy fitted and (as far as I can remember anyway) this isn't included in the Hasegawa kit. You'd need an F-5E 'donor kit' to make a really accurate representation.....
  21. That looks amazing, can't wait to see it finished!
  22. I love the Val and was looking forward to getting this, but having seen the test build I'm afraid it's a hard pass for me. The 'surface detail' just looks absolutely ridiculous.....talk about overdone! Yes, I know that it could be filled/sanded, but frankly that's firmly in the 'life's too short' category as far as I'm concerned (particularly when there are so many really good kits out there nowadays that don't need that kind of treatment).
  23. That sounds about right; I think I invented a couple of new swear words during the process myself.....
  24. Thanks for the info. and the offer; however, I've had a couple of bad experiences with Kits World decals myself so I'll pass! They're definitely not the best decals I've ever seen either.....
