Mine too. However, I'm keeping it, one 1/32 two-seat Me 262 is enough for one lifetime! Even though the new Revell kit looks excellent, and despite that fact that I'm also reliably informed that the Trumpeter kit has 'issues', they're not bad enough - at least in my view - to warrant ditching it. To be honest, while a younger me would undoubtedly have bought the new kit, at this stage in my life there's no point in having multiples of everything, I'll be pushing up daisies long before I get to finish even one of everything that I'd like to build!

I have to agree with Homebee too, to me the Kittyhawk Banshee doesn't even come close. I wouldn't class myself as a 'rivet counter', in that I can live with small errors/discrepancies as long as the model captures the overall 'look' of the full-size subject. I really wanted this one to be good because it's a subject that I like (the reconnaissance variant in particular) and it would have gone nicely with my Kittyhawk Cougar in the same scale, but the whole intake/inner wing area ruins it completely.

AIRFIX 1/48 Supermarine Walrus Mk.I Released
hopkp replied to sofiane1718's topic in The Rumourmonger
Fully agree on the 1/48 S.6B, I'd absolutely love one (and any of the other 'racers' too). As for the Walrus, nice to see, makes a refreshing change from yet another Spitfire, 109, Mustang, etc., etc., etc.! Already thinking about one in Irish Air Corps colours..... -
I don't think this is new at all. It looks and sounds to me exactly like a kit that was being sold at Telford either last year or the year before? I'm sure there's a thread on here somewhere about it but can't for the life of me find it.

Not to mention the fact that it's also - by the proverbial country mile - the aviation world's ugliest ever aeroplane.....

New Tamiya 1/48 Grumman F-14 (A, Late A, D) Tomcat
hopkp replied to Robert's topic in The Rumourmonger
Personally I think that the Tamiya canopy masks are a complete waste of time - in my experience masks only help/save time if they're 'pre-cut' like (for example) the Eduard ones. Tamiya leave the modeller to cut out sometimes complex curves 'freehand' before applying the masks - frankly, it's easier to do it the old-fashioned way with Tamiya's thin masking tape. Just my tuppence worth! -

I'm not so sure.....I'm no expert on the 'Banshee', nor does it do much for me as a subject so I'm unlikely to buy it either way, but I think that the open canopy on the model is perhaps what's making it look wrong. The relationship between the windscreen, the leading edge of the intake and that of the nose and the windscreen look reasonably OK to me?

Looking at photos again I still can't see a whole lot wrong - what's provided will certainly do me!
-
Just curious - what's wrong with the Finnish markings in the kit? I got the kit yesterday and from looking at any photos I can find they look OK to me.....though I'm not by any means an expert on either the Draken or the Finnish AF.

1/48 - Sikorski H-34G.lll/UH-34J Seabat/Seahorse by Italeri - released
hopkp replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
'Cos I don't fancy hacking away the solid plastic to which Gallery would have you glue the photo-etched mesh to, and then try to figure some way to attach the mesh to what's left of a much-weakened forward fuselage? -
Fully agree with you on the F-111, but 'one offs', 'Luftwaffe '46' and 'what ifs' in general hold less than zero interest for me (and for any other modellers I know). I'd be very curious to know how many XF5U kits Kittyhawk has sold, likewise how well kits of subjects like the recent 1/48 F-20 series from Freedom Models have done. I bought neither, nor do I know anyone else who did. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that these kits are there for anyone who's into this stuff, but it's not for me. Each to their own, I guess.

I'd definitely buy at least one - Kinetic's kit is nice, but I reckon an AMK one would be better. However, I can wait - given the choice, I'd take the Tomcat (which has been my all-time favourite aircraft ever since I first saw one do a display many years ago at Mildenhall, back when airshows were still worth going to, but I digress) and the L-39 (of which a good 1/48 kit is long overdue) before another Super Etendard, so no issues if the latter is delayed a bit. (And at the risk of going 'off topic' and incurring the wrath of the moderators, I'd buy a fleet of AMK 1/48 Buccaneers.....and I'm also hoping that the person who suggested that a 1/48 XF-108 was badly needed had tongue firmly inserted in cheek when doing so!)

1/48 - Sikorski H-34G.lll/UH-34J Seabat/Seahorse by Italeri - released
hopkp replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
My thoughts exactly - and an odd omission, I'd have thought, given that the 'mesh' over the engine compartment appears 'see through'? On the other hand, the Gallery Models kit has a nicely detailed engine but has you apply a similar photo-etched 'mesh' over a solid plastic recess. I've occasionally toyed with the idea of cutting away the plastic recess on the Gallery Models kit, but decided that it was probably beyond my abilities to do properly. I'm wondering now if it might be worth getting Italeri kit in the hope that the Gallery Models engine could be fitted into it? I could easily see myself doing two H-34s, as I've a Caracal sheet with a lot of colourful options on it.....so many kits, so little time! -
I'll await your sensible review with bated breath.....

New Tamiya 1/48 Grumman F-14 (A, Late A, D) Tomcat
hopkp replied to Robert's topic in The Rumourmonger
We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one! Tamiya does some lovely stuff, but has often been at least equalled in recent years by some other manufacturers and (in my view anyway) surpassed on occasion. -

hopkp replied to Robert's topic in The Rumourmonger
For my money, with their 1/48 MiG 31 AMK have already easily surpassed Tamiya - and pretty much everyone else too! -
You're a braver man than I am.....nice job, I'll follow your build with interest. (Though I think I'd probably be unable to convince myself to leave the 'extra armour' in place, and I really wouldn't fancy trying to sand all of that off. Definitely in the 'life's too short category!)
-
No thanks - seems to have the same silly cockpit 'cut out' error that the Trumpeter kit has. I'm still inclined to think that the best starting point for a 1/48 Sea Fury is the old Hobbycraft kit? Come on, Airfix.....you know it makes sense!
-
That's a lovely model, but I fear that achieving a result like that would probably be beyond me. Thanks to all who replied to my question - think I'll leave this one alone, it was a nice idea, but....
-
Wonder if it could be combined with the Tamiya kit to make a decent 1/48 AD-4W? Anyone ever tried?
-
Maybe - but if that's all that's wrong with it I'll be happy!
