  1. If 'eyeball and some maths' is good enough for you then it's good enough for me; 22.5 mm and 36.5 mm it is!
  2. As far as I can remember, that's what was stated when this conversion was first mentioned. Damn, that means I need a couple more Airfix Meteor kits.....
  3. Again, thanks very much, this is all really excellent reference material - I've never seen such clear pictures of the Finnish 'tow tail' anywhere before. Given all that you've provided so far, I hate to ask for more but I'm just wondering if you have any plans/dimensions for the towing gear or if you just made it from the bomb/drop tank using the 'Mk. 1 eyeball'? If you did, please don't take my question as criticism, it's definitely not intended that way!
  4. I forgot Hobby Boss also did one - looks good!
  5. Nice looking shelf! Is the P-61 the Great Wall Hobby kit or the old Revell/Monogram one?
  6. Really impressive and very informative too! I have a couple of these in the stash (and the associated Eduard sets) and have always tended to think of them as something to do if I need an easy/relaxing build - however, they're obviously going to be anything but that! Back to the drawing board.....
  7. Really nice job, weathering looks fine to me - if it was mine I'd put it on the shelf and leave it alone!
  8. Thanks, much appreciated! Lots of interesting info. there too.....
  9. Thanks for that, really helpful! (Well, in one way.....very UNhelpful insofar as I'll probably have to buy one now!)
  10. Is there a link to your earlier work on this kit somewhere online? If so, I'd love to see it!
  11. 'The clear parts are the worst I’ve ever seen.....parts are extremely brittle, cloudy, misformed and full of tiny air bubbles.' I also meant to say that when I read this comment, I immediately went and had a look at my own kit in a panic! However, while they're certainly not up to the standard of clear parts produced by the likes of Eduard and Tamiya (and do look as if they might well be on the brittle side) the clear parts in my IL-28 kit are in no way 'misformed' and thankfully definitely have no air bubbles. It may be that you got a 'dud' set and it might be worth trying to get replacements? (Though admittedly in the current environment that might be a bit difficult to do!)
  12. I agree completely - a real masterclass! On the picture of the port side of the navigator's compartment during a 'dry run' I misread the caption as 'scratch built items such as the folding light work' and it all looked so good for a split second I believed it!
  13. Beautiful job so far! I will definitely be following this with great interest as I'd like to do mine as a Finnish AF target tug but I've struggled to find much in the way of reference material (particularly about the interior).
  14. I have the 2000C version and am very happy with it. Granted, the decals are a bit of a mess and there's no 2000-5 instrument panel in the kit, but for me those are minor issues (which will hopefully eventually be resolved by aftermarket producers).
  15. Nice model and a very quick build, wish I could make progress as fast as that! However, it's just gotta be said, that's one UGLY aeroplane!
  16. If it's got raised rivets, then it's definitely not for me, I'll stick with the Airfix and Tamiya kits. I hate raised rivet detail with a vengeance, no matter whether it's accurate or not. I can only conclude it's because I'm a child of the sixties and spent much of my youth and early adulthood sanding raised rivets off old Airfix kits.....
  17. That looks absolutely excellent. Could I ask a question about the interior colour? I have one of these kits but so far haven't done anything with it as I couldn't find any decent info. on the interior colours. Various bits and pieces that I found online suggested everything from something close to RAF interior green to a light tan colour (and others - as you've done - suggested bare metal). Have you found any decent references for the D.500/510 interior-wise and if so could you share what they are? On the other hand (and this is NOT a criticism!) if you just decided to go with bare metal then that's fine too, after all it's your model - regardless, it looks well enough for me to maybe just go the same route! I'll definitely be following this build.....the kit struck me as maybe not the easiest to get the best from but also as one of those that would probably handsomely repay the application of some old-fashioned 'modelling skills'; best of luck with it!
  18. The crew entered the He 111 via a hatch in the gondola under the fuselage. It's hard to come across good pictures of it, this is the best I've been able to find. My understanding is that the hatch swung up into the fuselage, hinged on the starboard side. Hope that's some help..... https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gallery/germany/aircrafts-2/heinkel_he111/british-he111-260-squadron-raf/
  19. I'll definitely be following this, having recently acquired the AMP kit. In particular I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle the cockpit, as far as I can see AMP hasn't given the pilot anything to sit on, just a backrest. I've tried to find cockpit pics. online, but haven't had much look so far, the only ones I can find just show the instrument panel.
  20. Nice build, like the cockpit in particular.....
  21. Thanks for the info. re. Oceanlack, I must try to get hold of some when the current insanity ends. The finished civilian Safir is beautiful.....best of luck rescuing the other two!
