Finally completed, and what an effort!
I started this on 1-1-17 intending it to be the build for the year. It was put onto the shelf of doom after 4 months, where it resided having killed any form of mojo. Resurrected in December and the final "push" for completion.
Added parts were:
Filler.
Pavla resin cockpit and seats.
Resin intakes and inlet blades (Kits for Cash, thanks!).
Airwaves wing-fold and airbrakes etch sets.
Modelmaster pitot and refuelling probes.
More filler.
Sanding sticks, and finally,
Filler.
A kit that fights every step of the way. Fuselage mouldings not lining up, wing mouldings not lining up, decals that seem to have had a one-night-stand with a jellyfish and been "slimed" somehow, etc, etc.
I've modified the tail-hook and recess, added a few wires into the main gear wells (really, they are in there), and moved the drop tanks inboard somewhat. airfix seems to want you to have the tank centreline almost underneath the wing hinge line... I also painted the walk lines on the upper surface as it was far easier than using the decals.
Some areas are brushed, bigger areas are sprayed.

Hello, I know there is an armour forum on the Internet, but dies anyone have photos of MV's taken at any of Tony Budge's open days in Retford during the 1980's?
Or do you know the whereabouts of some of his vehicles?
It's a bit of nostalgia for me as I did some voluntary work on some of the vehicles.
-
Yes it is in very good condition, other than a bit of dust through hangar storage, with a spit and Polish- this is how it would look now.
There are photos of its recovery, and pit-stop at Firbeck, on the museum's Facebook page. The Demobbed website now has a photo of it in the museum hangar, albeit waiting to be put back together.

What a beauty! It looks stunning! It is not often to see a Defiant that flew around the time of the Battle of Britain that doesn' t wear 234 squadron's PS codes. It's so nice to see it finished in this scheme, to me, it has a regional historical aviation significance. (as I am a member of the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum at Doncaster).
In October 1940, the 307 squadron was based at RAF Hatfield Moor in S. Yorks. Its an airfield name few will recognise, that is, until you read the airfields new name......
In 1941 RAF Hatfield Moor became better known as RAF Lindholme, the only South Yorkshire airfield to operate both the Avro Manchester and Lancaster.
Incidentally, in 1978, I took my first ever flight, as a snotty nosed air cadet in a Sedbergh flown from here.

For a 25 year old it looks fantastic- but don't go and spoil it with new odds and sods- please leave it as it is.👍
It's an authentic part of your personal modelling history.

What a wonderful project, I can't wait to see the end result. I do have a vested interest in that my wife's Uncle drove both the Diamond T and Antar in the 1950's - I assume your dad is still around and it's a long shot, would he remember a Brian Kennedy or Ranby camp in Nottinghamshire?
Either way, I shall be following the build with relish👍

Hi folks, in the last week or so, members of the museum collected the latest acquisition and it is very special to South Yorkshire.
Auster Mk1 LB314 has been acquired from Denmark. This Auster is special to SYAM, in that in 1942 it operated from RAF Firbeck with 654 sqn on the former South Yorkshire airfield. Eventually the sqn found its way to North Africa, serving as aerial artilliary spotters in the NA campaign. The museum was formed when the old S.Yorks.Aviation.Society voted to turn its memoribilia collection into a full museum, sited in former buildings of the site from the early1980's until it moved to Doncaster in 1999-2000.
On retuning to the UK, the first port of call was an informal photoshoot, taken next to a memorial at Firbeck, which stands on the base of the airfield's only Hangar.
Congratulations to all involved- it has taken over 30 years, but this is the museum's first significant WW2 "Warbird"

from the serial I'd assume a Spitfire type rotol unit. If the remains have splintered prop blades, (i can't see any here http://www.tangmere-museum.org.uk/artefact-month/hawker-hurricane-p3179)
then it is certain.
see here for the wreck of P3175 which was in the BoB hall at Hendon
http://www.airport-data.com/images/aircraft/small/001/068/001068309.jpg
note wood blades.
the Revell Mk.I kit prop is basically this type BTW anyway. The "IIc" boxing had some retooling so I don't know about that, I think they messed with the spinner.
here the thread on this
FWIW I don't think there is much point chucking aftermarket at the Revell kit, now Fly do a Mk.I.

Thank you Troy your help is very much Appreciated 🖒- I'm actually repairing a Revell kit which lost a couple of blades, hence trying to locate a replacement prop/blades.

Can any tell me which type of propeller was fitted to Dennis Noble's Hurricane- remains now displayed at Tangmere.?The aircraft serial is P3179. If you can answer my first question, what after market 1/32 propellers are available for Revell Hurricanes?
If you can help it's much appreciated.
Many thanks🖒

Good effort fella, extremely well done. The 1/96th scale HMS Hermes displayed at SYAM in Doncaster is blowing enough- this is its equal.😲🖒👏

My wishlist- 1/72 scale- all new tools, a B24 with options for birdcage and turret noses, Hampden, Manchester and a decent Mk8 Meteor. In 1/48 scale Vampire T11, Meteor T7, Hampden and Do17z.
But please it would be nice to see some smaller airfield buildings and vehicles in both 1/72 & 1/48th, I.e. an accurate contol tower, Fire engine shed and Nissan huts.

Hello, has anyone used decals manufactured by Owl? If so any tips on which setting solutions they work well with?
Many thanks,

Hi - i wish all merry X-mas !
I hope for 1/24 Tempest Mk. V - engine is similar with Typhoon.... and it is a famous aircraft, now with new tool kits in 1/48 and 1/32 - so 1/24 is logic - and it is a popular subject worldwide.
Another popular subject (and never realised in this big scale) is - Me-262. Schwalbe is one from most popular WW II aircraft and in car scale isn´t in market.
Or - last Spitfire Mk. IX... Main version of Spitfire in mid-late period of WW II and after war... When Airfix made a C/E wing you have a plenty of colourful camouflage...and it is most popular version of Spitfire... (used with many nations...) and engine parts from it you can used in Mk. VIII and in new tool Mustang...
Don´t forget - Hornby have a problems and they must make a popular subject... no specialites for few modelers.... And Tempest, Schwalbe and Spit Mk. IX are very popular....
Or 1/48 heavy bombers... - all kits from Monogram and Tamiya on this theme are ancient and obsolete...
If your gonna chuck Me 262's in 1/24 - then there has to be a Meteor Mk1👌

It would be nice to see some more of the 1/72 scale newer toolings bought out in 1/48th - anyone for a non- CA Blenheim?

To me the problem of the solid exhausts ànd other areas that have to be drilled out are far outweighed by the prospect of an early finish fillet free P51D.
At last I can find a big kit at a reasonable price that can be finished as the P51D of ex 616 Sqn RAF pilot Flt Lt Jack Clealand - who went on to be the only New Zealander to fly in the US 8th AF.🖒👌

I am currently in the process of moving my model collection into a modified summer house and will be taking the opportunity of photographing my collection of old Airfix kits that I began building around ten years ago when I returned to the hobby.
If anyone would like to add pictures of their own builds to this thread then please do.
Should anyone be interested in building classic Airfix kits of any type including aircraft, armour, ships, cars etc, then Airfix the Golden Years is waiting for you in the 2018 group build poll which is currently open until the end of this November.
The old Airfix B-24J Liberator kit.
My build is from a late boxing, unfortunately the Dragon and his Tail decal option has been removed from this kit.
The late 50's Mosquito kit, very inaccurate but full of retro character. This kit has some very dodgy painting instructions that include duck egg green for the undersides. Some may remember it from the Me-262 dogfight double.
The Original Airfix Wildcat kit. This may have been the first Airfix kit I ever built so an old favorite of mine.
The Airfix Hellcat, for some reason I just like the look of this model.
The original Airfix Mustang from about 1956, Fools Paradise.
The original Airfix Hurricane, again from the 1950's
The original Airfix Defiant, not sure how old but old, maybe 1960.
Wow - what a nostalgia throwback!! The box covers alone invoke so many fond memories. I love the point you made about the Mosquito/Me262 dogfight double as it was one of mine🖒
I was in the lucky position as a kid who lived in a village - our local news agent had a big stand of Airfix kits 😚, so when Saturday morning came a trip down there was spent looking for anything new on the shelves and pocket money exchanged very quickly.
Thank you for sharing🖒
One thing I like about these earlier kits is that the condition of the moulds are relatively new- and the kit is nice and sharp along the edges. Non of the flash and over thick glazing you get from modern re issues of moulds that should have retired years ago.

Hello folks, I thought to introduce myself, I'm a very keen model builder, basically, I build kits to give me something to do, I'm disabled with quite serious health issues, I only have half a lung after my left lung burst open and because of the damage, the surgeon couldn't save it, and so removed it, and, I've got emphysema on my right lung, meaning only half my lung works, and with the nerve damage, I can't work, so rather than sit at home all day moaning, I get on with life, and rather than watch telly all day, I build kits, I prefer the 1/350 scale Ships, although I've got a collection of 1/48 scale Aircraft in the loft, just want to say a big hello to everyone, and, from what I've seen, there's a lot of very good kit builders on here, I only hope my poor efforts come even close
Hello and welcome to the forum Papa. So sorry to hear about your health issues, but what a positive response- in that you get on with life in spite of what it has thrown at you. 🖒
I have built kits for nigh on 45 years now and I still look in awe at others which blow mine away. But I believe that all kits are 3 dimensional blank canvas - never think yours are poor efforts- it doesn't matter how it turns out as long as you enjoy the build- it's what pleasure you get out of it that matters.😊

Hi Folks
This is my Boulton Paul Defiant, and, I am so proud, that the Squadron Markings chosen by Airfix, happen to be Squadron 264, and, although I cannot say my Uncle, Flt Sgt Leslie Laird, actually flew in this Aircraft, he was with 264 Squadron as a Turret Gunner, this was after being the Tail Gunner in Wellington Bombers, however, I am so proud of this Model, it's sits on my desk, and I have great pride in knowing, my Uncle Les, could have, just might have, flown in that Aircraft
A lovely Defiant there, made even more special when it has a personal connection. If you don't mind my asking- what is the scale please🖒

I built the Italeri release a few years ago, being originally released by Accurate Miniatures , I found that it's a nice kit to put together. The real skill comes in the finish and what a cracker you've built- it's spot on 👍
