Keep hold of that Jet Commander- the original mold was destroyed when the train carrying it crashed.
-
A lovely pair of Whirlwinds there- the HAS 22 looks brilliant, well done as the kit is an older tooling with poor detail.
Incidentally, I don't know if you're aware, but Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group has the former Flambards HAS 22 displayed at SYAM at Doncaster. This particular one is restored in its HMS Protector scheme and was the aircraft used by Airfix for its first offering in 1/72 scale.

Hiya Folks,

I have to say that I am very impressed indeed,..... the turret detail is the best I`ve seen in a 1/72nd scale British bomber so far, the fabric and geodetic surface detail is sublime and the interior has everything you need,....... just need to decide on a colour scheme now and DK Decals have just released three sheets to choose from!

Cheers

Crickey- if only Airfix would do this (& a MkIII/MkX ) in 1/48th - it knocks spots off the Trumpeter kits.

Hi All
Ā
In my spare time IĀ help out with the air cadets. About a year ago I was asked by the wing Commander if we could get 100 1/72 RAF aircraft together for our wing field training day which was held today.
Not wanting to let the wing Commander down I said it would be a big ask but I would see what we could do.
So with the help of a few other cadet instructors and the cadets from our squadron model clubĀ we managed over the 100, there are a few obvious omissions but this is our efforts.

There is one other thing you have actually achieved- this is one of the best RAF static displays I've seen since the 1977 silver jubilee review at Finningley Ā (albeit in miniature)

First tooled around the time Armstrong and Aldrin stepped out onto the surface of the Moon, I'd had this kit in my stash for some years. It was a Humbrol period boxing, and had an awful lot of flash to deal with. I decided, rather than splash out on an Eastern European kit of this type, to splash out a bit and buy in the Airwaves detailing etch and see what I could do with the kit.
Ā
Main paintwork was by airbrush, something I'm still learning how to do well, with detail work by brush. Main camo paints were Xtracrylix, and final finish using airbrush ready enamelĀ matt varnish from Precision Paints.
Ā
Rivets were banished, and principle panel lines were scribed - the first time I'd done this for a whole airframe. The PE set was fought and eventually tamed, though you can't see much of any of it now. The markings I am not convinced by, as my research hasn't turned up anything like them. However, I'm not about to change them now, as I like the early form with the yellow outer rings on the wings. One day, I dream, Airfix will treat us to a new tool of the Hampden. Until then, or until I decide to get another maker's version, this will live in my display cabinet happily.Ā
Wow- had you not said Airfix, I would have thought it was the Valom/A-Z kit, because you have done a brilliant job of scribing and bolt (sorry, rivet)Ā head removal. You've done a fantastic job of a kit that is ripe for retooling
š
Ā
If I may ask- where did you get the 7 Squadron decals from please? I love to build WWII South Yorkshire based aircraft and currently have an A-Z Hampden awaiting it turn to become a 76 sqn one, using the Airfix P-EA codes. I built one as this A/C which years ago, but would love to do it as a 7sqn machine.
-
I hope this is OK to mention, but planning has been granted to construct a BofB monument next to South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum at Doncaster.
Ā
Inspired and to complement those at Cap-le-Ferne and the Bronze sculpture on the Thames embankment, it will take the form of a landscaped, 3 sided buttress, (to represent half of an E pen) containing a replica Spitfire. The walls will also be lined with stone panels, engraved with the names of "The Few;
Ā
The site was chosen in Yorkshire as 105 menĀ served from the county, with the Doncaster site being the home to 616 Sqn- who fought in the battle & Ā 271 Sqn, who's aircraft helped to read supply the beleaguered fighter stations.
You can find more details on the project's website ;- Ā www.battleofbritainorth.co.uk Ā and FB pages.

I'd be 7 or 8 (1971-72) and it was the Airfix Mk9 Spitfire. The shop didn't have many paints, knowing Spitfires were green and light brown- I got a tin of green and Bronze to which it was duly painted- the undersides weren't a problem as the kit was light blue plastic. Since then I've had over 400 kits of variousĀ subjects and scales.

I've been saying for ages that Airfix should cover this very subject in this scale, I'm glad somebody has grasped the nettle, if they do a good job I'll be after one of these.
About time a Hart came out in this scale- 616 sqn used them when they first formed at Doncaster

It's been a while since I've done a WIP, as I've been busy with non-Spitfire builds, but, having recently purchased DK Decals Spitfire V aces sheet and some KP kits from MJW Models, it's time to do one.

Ā
I'll be doing the Bader Va, using an Airfix kit, and five (or six) Vbs before progressing to MkIXs, MkVIIIs, MkXVIs, Mk22s and a Mk24 (there may even be a MkVI, MkXI, MkXII and Mk21).
Ā
My problem is that I can't decide which ones to do so I've decided to askĀ you good people to suggest some (what could go wrong with a referendum?). Please let me know which ones you like and I'll do the most popular.
I think the 616 Sqn ( coded YQ*C )has got to be a must!

Ā The Sqn flew the Vb when they were part of Bader's Tangmere Wing in 1941. He often used 616 as his wing men. Bader's Va was originally on 616 sqns charge, but he had a great distrust of the cannons, so used the Va as his personal aircraft.Ā
Ā
However 616 South Yorkshire Sqn wasn't Douglas Bader's only connection to the county. From the age of 4 until he went to private school at 8 yo, his Stepfather was the rector of Sprotbrough- a small village a few miles from Doncaster and nt far from the original Doncaster airport- where 616 formed in 1938.
Ā
The rectory is now a private house and blue signed re Bader's residence. Some of the features from his time there have been kept, including a window - complete with air pellet hole allegedly made by Douglas.

I wish I could help you, this is something I'd like to confirm myself as Sgt Noble is one of my local Few. I have a gut feeling (not helpful, I'm sorry), but I used the letter E on model, as he was from East Retford in Nottinghamshire.
Ā
Whether the info can be found in public records at Kew or 43 sqnĀ records is the only way I think may be helpful.

Incidentally I worked with Dennis's nephew Rod -a fellow ambulanceman, until he retired. Rod is also a Retfordian, who has a very striking resemblance to his uncle.Ā

Hi, I know there are a number of accessories for the Trumpeter kit, but has anyone used them for the old 1960's Revell 1/32 Me 262 single seat aircraft?
Ā
And can anyone confirm if it is from the same tooling as the Hasegawa offering?

Many thanks, AdrianĀ

This is the very nice Tamiya kit used along side the Cutting Edge Crossdressing Stormbirds decal sheet.Ā Yellow 17 was flown by Lt Hans Dorn of 1/JG7 and was captured at Fassberg by No 616 Squadron RAF in May 1945. I could find very little information on Dorn, I suspect he was a replacement pilot and fairly new to JG 7, seeing little or no action in his time there. As for yellow 17, she was designated AM-52 and ferried back to England for evaluation before being declared surplus andĀ shipped off to Canada. From there, she was sold along with 300 other surplus aircraft and scrapped.
Ā
As I said the Tamiya kit is a real pleasure to build. Painted with Gunze RLM 82/83/76 with weathering kept pretty light as this machine looked almost brand new when captured, in all likelihood it was.Ā

What a wonderful selection - short of a ground up scratch build, even if you build one, it definitely tests your skills. You have done an amazing job on each oneš.
Ā
Out of this lot, I have only built the FM Halifax, I'd love to put a photo of mine but I gaveĀ up trying in the end. If you ever visit, mineĀ is on display at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum. It is finished in the colours of Halifax NA581, Ā KW-U of 425 Squadron RCAF. The aircraft crashed at Blyth in Nottinghamshire on 2/8/1944 with the loss of all her crew. As well as the display in the museum, there'sĀ memorial to the crew andĀ that of a Worksop based Wellington which came down in the same village.

This looks amazing, the Dr1 is not a big aircraft at the best of times- let alone in miniature- even in 1/48th scale! But I must agree your finish is superb. I don't model WW1 aircraft very often, but the Dr1 is on my to do list at some time. But your build is a real gem. Thank you for sharing.
Ā
Frustratingly, the Baron's aircraft's colour scheme has been controversial in that for many years expert argument has raged as to whether it was all red or not- and I still don't even know now, if there is a general consensus of agreement to what is right or not. The two main depictions seem to be either all red or red with part of theĀ fuselage painted in a green wash.
Ā
Ā So it's really Ā up to the individual to make their own interpretation . Please don't take my comment as a criticism- it isn't - I'm just adding a little trivia which is a trait of mineš - and enjoying looking at your finished model.š
