  1. Talk about doing a double-take!!!! That is one very realistic model, which due to the use of accessories and good photography makes it much more special.

Working to standards like this really shows a master of his art at work.

Well done that man, and thanks for sharing. Regards ,Rad.

Ps with what happened with Red4, makes this thread more touching at the moment-a wonderful tribute to Flt Lt Eggin- someone who inspired & who we all should aspire to.

  2. I recently had the opportunity to take some close up photo's of a friends Sherman Grizzly, which is now finished in U.S. colours & fitted with American sprockets & rubber cleat track.

Although It was a canadian built AFV & ironically served with the 52nd on D-Day, it was "converted" to represent an American one ( by the Tank museum I believe) for display at the 2004 Normandy anniversary. <_<

Not strictly an accurate restoration, I know, but If anyone is interested, let me know please.

    Regards Rad.

  4. Hi Guys

Ive been wanting to do this painting for a long time, and after watching some clips of "sailor" on the Youtube I just couldnt resist. So I cranked up a bit of "shine on you crazy diamond" did a quick google search for RN phantoms and here is the result. It started off as a quick sketch but I was loving it so much that it turned into something a little more complete. It is basically a watercolour base with gouache to bring out the detail and give it some umph. Its 35cm x 27.5cm on watercolour board.

of course many of you will recognize the painting I drew inspiration from by the great Robert Taylor. If not and you are going to Yeovilton in a couple of weeks time you will see it in the competition room in all its glory. This is a photo I took of it last year

    thanks for looking

    chris

Chris this painting is amazing in that the Phantom literally " jumps out" of the image. Thank you for sharing. :worthy:

Ps if you get it to print, I wouldn't mind buying one.

  5. Saw the exhibition and met the man himself on Wednesday at the model club at Aeroventure. Well worth a look and the shop is the best model shop in South Yorkshire.

    Hi SF,

Thanks for the feedback and complimentary comment about the model shop, though the museum has been in existance since around 1985, it moved from Firbeck to Doncaster in 2000. Considering it only has a small, but active cell of volunteers it is a real "treasure".

I am a member, but don't get over as often as I'd love to, but I will pass on the comments. :D

    Regards Rad

  6. C

It's in hiding at the moment... for it's own sake. The more I look at it, the more I think I could do a good job with it!!! Oh god, what have I started???

    Hi Chris,

Here is the Key! Get a copy of the SAMI article about the kit by Jacques Niot if you can- its a good guide and he made the original masters. Be prepared for lots of sanding, test fitting and a bit of hard graft. The only parts I replaced were the Brownings & I fitted engines from a couple of 1/48 Beaufighter kit. Once you get into it, it doesn't cause major headaches. A word of caution though, the front part of the main canopy didn't look right, that's due to the top being angled as you look from the side, where it should be almost parallel with the fuselage spine. Finally don't get too frustrated, the effort is well worth it.

    Regards Rad.

  7. Just to let you know I've read on the Key publishing forum that Keith Woodcock has got an exhibition at Doncaster Aeroventure until Sept 18th & a Cold War Fest this weekend. Museum rates apply, but details found on www.aeroventure.org

    Regards Rad.

  8. Ok it may be a daft question to some, but I'm only just venturing into WW1 builds & am currently working on the Eduard F2 w/end edition. The problem I have is the upper surfaces are Khaki!- the colour of Humbrol Khaki is more akin to a dark teak or "Brasso" whereas, most British WW1 aircraft I've seen seem to be a Dark Green or Chocolate (service Brown). can anyone help please.

    Many thanks Rad.

  9. Postie just deposited a nice large parcel:

    re2005368.JPG

    re2005369.JPG

Looks stunning - can't wait to crack on...

Don't think I've been so excited about a new kit since, well the last time I guess. But looks superb and, once again, a lot of high quality plastic for your buck from Revell!

    Iain

There looks an awful lot of kit in that box Iain, I must admit I was more than pleased with the Revell/Monogram 1/48 He111 kit and the latest 1/32 Luftwaffe releases have been amazing, but this one looks like it's going to live up to all expectations- even exceeeding the Ju88. Enjoy the build.

  10.

    Know the feeling!!

Still, 1 months council tax or, 2 new Heinkels? Hmmm! No contest really!! Trip to Wonderland methinks!!

That's alright till the bailifs catch up with you, then you're two Heinkels down boo hoo :raincloud:

  11. Price is very steep if it's the old Fog kit, only other F.4 I can remember was a VERY old 1/48th AMT or Lindberg kit.

    Paul Harrison

I must admit I've not heard of a F.4 released by either company, but I have built the AMT 1/48 Meteor F.1 which came with a V1 in the late 1970's. Not a bad kit in its day, but the V1 was a bit suspect.

  12. Sorry - hadn't spotted your post!

According to the Extradecals sheet - Leeming '94 (not sure what homes they've had since Wyton?) - but should cover their 'grey' period :)

Build here and featured in current Military in Scale.

    Iain

Hi Iain, Cheers for that, I don't know when they arrived at Finningley but believe they were there almost upto the station closing.

    Thanks again Rad.

  13. Help!!!

Having seen Iain's build of the 1/32 hawk (on the review thread) in 100 Sqn colours can anyone please give me the Xtradecal catalogue number? the only 100 Sqn decals I can find are for the aircraft with the black spine and fin.

    Many thanks Rad.

  14. Edgar,

Thanks for that information, its just I intend to build a 1/32 Mk Vb & Mk VI in 616 Squadron colours soon. I also see where you are coming from with the Circle, I took it as brass Due to it appearence in the photo.

Mark, I've just noticed where you're from- Hello neighbour!!

  15. Mark,

My appologies for hi-jacking your thread a little. But seeing the photo's of the previous thread, can someone please confirm when Spitfires began to have the aerial wires that ran from the tips of the horizontal tailplane to the side of the fuslage (I believe the entry point is the brass coloured circle, seen just off center in the red spot of the roundel)

    Many thanks Rad.

p.s.Mark enjoy the build, as a kit its a delight to assemble.
