Stirling work that man..........."Airfix rivets 'n' all" ( I'll get me coat).
I hadn't noticed the fin flash, but other than that, it looks superb & to me,the rivets seem to enhance models in the bomber's colour scheme, rather than spoil its looks. But it is also nice to see one of Airfix's Golden Oldies that still holds its head high.

Regards Rad.

Cheers guys, that's the one...now need to try and source some bits for her, thanks
Steve
Hi Steve, what do you need? I got an old tatty Vb sat in my shed that I'd saved for spares. Plus I have an unbuilt kit which should yeild a few unwanted bits.
On top of that There's a Decal set of which I shall only use the decals for Buck Casson's aircraft.

Hi everyone, first post and first attempt in over 25 years.
Maybe not the wisest move to go straight into resin and scratchbuilding but in for a penny.... (or over £100). Ive put the photos in this forum despite having a few additions to make such as a few aerials and static ducts.
The reason I went for this is that Ive just finished 10 years serving on the queen of the skies and wanted to put together a collection of all the types Ive been on, hence the huge stand. This one has taken over 6 months of tinkering and downright frustration, but Ive finally got to a stage where Im relatively content with her appearance.

I included the Gemini 1/400 version for a size comparison - she is a whopper.
Really enjoyed this build - I tend to think the shape is there or there abouts. The kit goes together well, with minimal filling to get good fuselage joins, the wings appeared bowed but when superglued together it seemed to straighten out . The kit itself needed quite a bit of work, moving the stators back, shaping the fridge pack intakes and shaping the engine cowlings. An interesting project and a nice paint scheme, only ruined on the real thing when skydrol leaked down the fin stripping all the black paint - i wasnt going to recreate that though.
First attempt in 25 years so any constructive criticism would be appreciated.
Next on the bench is a 1/48 scale bulldog - heck of a size difference
Wot, no rear hold door damage from the Movers!!!!!
That is one superb build there, well done for taking this on after such a long modelling gap. Hats off to you!!!

Simply stunning!

What is the wing span?
The kits wingspan is around 26 inches old money, roughly similar to that of the Monogram B17 or Tamiya Lancaster. Overall a cracking model.

That looks superb, well done that man!!!!
I was only looking at the real McCoy at AeroVenture the other week thinking I must get me one of these to do as a a RAF SAR version.

Unlikely as Airfix don't do 1/32
Trevor
I know, but we can but live in hope that mabe one day!!!!!!!!
That said, as I grew up (1970's) I never thought I'd see 1/48 scale from them-which they do now, but generally there seems to be a growing trend for the Major manufacturers to produce 1/32 kits, so why shouldn't Airfix? They seem to be more geared now to what modellers want.

Does anyone know if Decals have been produced for Jack Cleland's Mustang " Isobelle III" please?
If so, where I can source them, any scale will do.

Hi All,
I just thought I would share a couple of pictures of a fine gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting on Saturday.
Shown below in the cockpit of the Vickers-Supermarine Spitfire LF. Mk.XVIe; TB863, VH-XVI of the Temora Aviation Museum is former Second World War Royal New Zealand Air Force fighter pilot, ninety-two year old Mr. Colin James McDonald DFC.

Mr. McDonald visited the Temora Aviation Museum during an Aircraft Showcase day where he shared his experiences with visitors and staff alike as an honoured guest at the museum.
Some of Mr. McDonald’s wartime experiences included service with both 122 and 253 Squadrons Royal Air Force and later 486 Squadron Royal New Zealand Air Force where he flew Hawker Hurricane, Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Tempest aircraft on Operations.
Born at Christchurch on the 12th of September 1919 Mr. McDonald served with the Royal New Zealand Air Force from the 4th of May 1941 till the 27th of March 1946. On the 14th of September 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross which is described in the Citation below;
Citation Distinguished Flying Cross (14 Sep 1945): [486 Sqn RNZAF (Tempest)] As a flight commander, this officer has completed a second tour of operational duty. Since September, 1944, he has destroyed three enemy aircraft in the air and has established a fine record against ground targets. He has destroyed 5 locomotives and damaged 31 and has also set fire to 44 transport vehicles and damaged a further 133. Flight Lieutenant McDonald has led his flight, and often the squadron, with great skill and determination.
Mr. McDonald subsequently served in the New Zealand Army from the 25th of June 1946 till the 22nd of October 1947 ostensibly to take part in British Commonwealth Occupation Force duties in Japan.

Good greif, I hope I look that good at 92- you could easily knock 10 years off how old he looks.
Nice to see old vets having a trip down memory lane- reminds me of 1 of my proudest & happiest moments whilst in the Mob.
Many years ago (1990) as an ATC erk at RAF Wattisham I looked after an old boy who was a guest of the CO when the 50th Anniversary of the B of B flypast was orchestrated from the base. The BofBMF was on the apron with the Lanc stood proud. I noticed my man looking whistfully at her & soon found out my vet was a Lanc pilot, his wife informing me that although he could see it ok now, sadly he was losing his sight.
Without further ado, I went & asked my SATCO if I could take him over to it- his reply was "don't spend all day- but don't rush back, oh & stay in radio contact if we need you". On telling the guest where we were going his face lit up like a child in a sweetshop.
On driving over to the Lanc I found Sqn Ldr Paul Day (OC BofBMF) for his permission for the guest to go over & have a look at the Lancaster- again his reply was simple " by all means yes,It's his (my guest's) aircraft -we've got plenty of time before we fly".
Although my man declined the offer to actually go all the way inside, it really made for both him, his wife & my day as he spent a good time just walking around before finally popping his head through the entry door- his last comment before leaving, saying it all "even now it still smells the same- Thank you so much"

Nice to see the nose turret B24J again, I love it when older kits like this come back on the manufacturing lines, but would really love to see the old 1/32 Me 110 C/D re-released in the future?
-
Most of the aircraft I'd love to see them release are listed, but I'd love to see Airfix do some of them as 1/32 aircraft..............please.

Plus to top that, I'm sure I've seen buildings in their range so a decent control tower in 1/72 & 1/48, not HO/OO & some British Hangar fronts would be nice touch.

B****r, just as I was going to scratchbuild one to go with a Spitfire!!!!!Hi all, I thought I would show a preview of our forthcoming 1:32 scale RAF Trolley Acc kit which will be available in the next few days, The master parts have all been CNC machined and the kit parts are cast in resin.
The electric cable In the pictures I know is too short, it was so that the trolley didn't get buried in it for the images, the correct length will be supplied with the kit.
Keep an eye on our website www.iconicair.com for the order details to be released in the kits page.
The cost will be about 18.50 GDP plus postage.
Regards
Graham.

Seriously though, this is perfect timing. I am building the Hobbyboss model of "Buck" Casson's 616 Squadron aircraft (Don't Laugh!), but would love to display it with a Trolly Acc fitted.
I will definitely be ordering one of these beauties.
-
The choice is yours Rad,but go with either Sky or doped Aluminium.
Hi Miggers, thanks for the quick reply.
I've seen them both on the doors so am I right to assume the wells will be matched, i.e. sky doors- sky wells.
regards Rad
-
Sorry about this, trying to find out the colour for the undercarrage wells & doors for the Mk Va "W"serials- i.e. Buck Casson's aircraft. (yep... I'm building the Hobbyboss 1/32 kit)
My references don't show his aircraft, but it seems to me the earlier Spitfire's had interior green, sky or doped aluminium or combination of one or the other.

Can anyone elaborate for me please?
regards Rad.

The Mk VI also had a tube that ran through the exhausts, open at the front, exiting at the rear before entering the engine cowling. This feature is well documented. Also don't forget remove the door hinge detail.
Hope this is helpful, Rad

Get him the Pegasus hurri, a great kit to get started modeling on! My daughter's first kit was a Corsair that she built for a school project when she was 9. She is finishing up the Pegasus P-51B right now and wants to build a Spitfire next.
Cheers
You've pre-empted me!!!
Having built the V1 Pegasus do, & positive reports I've heard about their Hurricane, cost-wise it was a fight between that & the old Airfix offering, but the simplicity of build will probably clinch it.
-
Late Mk.I. Dark Green and Dark Earth over (probably) Azure Blue. It may have had the "spaghetti" scheme on the nose and leading edges but most of the aircraft in Greece did not.
Thank you for the info Graham, that is brilliant I think my lad will be pleased when I tell him what I have planned.
-
Lots of ifs, thinks and maybes in my reply ...
I think some of the replies are confused - the snake was a dessert scheme, and the comet was a European scheme (maybe BoB era)
There's a yellow comet here - second image:

Source http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/models/aircra...nkers-Ju87.html
I've seen it as a decal but so long ago that I'm stretching my memory (maybe Almark). Airfix might have issued it as 1/48.
The yellow comet is certainly the right shape, but still remember the decal was red, Maybe its one of these mis-interpretation's like the old JE-J Spitfire Maple being green.

As mentioned on another forum I contacted Airfix with a request for a future release to be a 1/72 VC10.
Their response was:
Dear Mr Howles
Thank you for your e-mail
Although we currently have no plans to release this item, we do keep a record of all customer requests and product suggestions, which we do take into consideration when planning all future ranges
Kind regards
Matt Jordan
Customer Care
Now, I have a 1/72 Nimrod, Victor and Vulcan and a 1/72 VC10 would complete my Ascension Island group. I was down there during the Falklands war (on VC10's) and these aircraft stick in my mind as the memory of how hectic it was there.
It would be an awesome model and I am sure would attract a lot of attention provided it was designed in a way where a good selection of versions were available, key would be BOAC standard, RAF CMK1/Kmk2/3 and perhaps even Super/Kmk4.
I'm just wondering how much support there would be for it from the folk here?
Mike
Hi Mike,
Lots of support on this one from my direction, spent many happy days as a mover loading/unloading the things!
Despite the problems they gave us :shithappens: -like having to push loaded pallets uphill, pulling bergens through your legs before chucking them down to some poor erk in the bottom of the hold or having to do it all again for a frame change, I have a deep affection for the VC10. One in 1/72 scale- Please bring it on!!!!
-
Here --> Linky Looks good!
Oooer Missus, if these are as good as they look I might have to go back to 1/72nd scale

-
Is it my memory failing me
, but many years ago I recall that I built the Airfix 1/72 Ju 87 using kit decals for a colour scheme that included a white bordered, red comet on both sides of the fuselage- am I right? If its the case, can anyone tell me if this this scheme still on the recent releases of the kit please?
Regards Rad.

If we're talking WWII, then top of the list for me wouldn't be one of there own to re-tool- but a Whitley is a must!!!!! please.

Follow this with re-vamped Hampden, Halifax BIII, Defiant & Blenheim.
Oh & just market the David brown tractor & trollies as a kit in it's own right, then chuck in a decent Watch office to scale (1/72, not HO/OO), or even a hangar front for diorama's

-
That could well be the case. 80 Sqdn. was in Greece, while Dahl was in Egypt. He flew V7806 from Egypt to rejoin and reinforce the unit which was covering the retreating Allied forces and, as the unit was also moving around, there were more important things to do than paint codes.
Righty oh!! if he flew V7806, then it's good enough for my little boy

- although only 7 he's a big fan of Roald Dahl's books, but "wants to build a model like Daddy's"- much to my good lady's consternation. I dont expect him to be like me, model wise (I started at 8), but I want to give him the chance to have a go at building one for himself. It may not get finished with great accuracy, but if someone can clue me in on the mark & colour scheme it would make us both happy.
regards Rad

Ha you've caught me out!!!! At the moment my 7 year old son is reading this book, so curious as to which aircraft he flew, I thought it was Spitfires. But it has the hatchlings of a future build.
Oops sorry about the repeat , I'm using my bro-in-law's ipad - hence the ham fisted finger trouble? If one of the moderators would like to take the repeated reply off, or tel me how to , please do.
-
I highly recommend "Going Solo" by Mr. Dahl, a great read. I to would like to make a MkI with his squadron code, there must be a picture somewhere.
Cheers

OK, I'm sorry if this seems irrelevent to this tomb, but HELP!!!!
I took photo's of a WIP Hobbyboss 1/32 Spitfire cockpit , which came out so well ( in my mind) that I'd love to share. But don't know how to download them
, can it be done via the phone or am I best to download via a PC?
Bear in mind I have forgotten more about kit building than what I know about mobiles & PC's.
