  1. I've put this in WWII as I feel this is more appropriate for the topic. Now that Airfix have announced their new offering the Typhoon, what more can they do for the modeller in this scale? No doubt there will lists of which aircraft type modellers would like them to- I can think of many single & twin aircraft I'd love to see, but I got thinking. Historically, the company was one of, if not the first to introduce aircraft in this scale, by todays standards some a little basic, others very well detailed, however I think we need Airfix to whet our appetites without breaking the bank. *********Like they have done with the Valiant, who out there would love to see a box of spares that enable a modeller to upgrade an existing kit? Instead of just having limited types, i.e. Spitfire Ia & Vb, manufacture parts to be able to produce any mark with the basic wing, Merlin or Griffon. How about parts to make a Fw 190D or Ta 152, or an Me 109B,C, D, F, G, or K? Or even a new wing, tail etc to make a Tempest, all using the original kit as a base?****** The capability is there, but how do out there feel about this idea? I'd love to know. As for new kits, I may as well add my H'penny's worth. Blenheim, Battle, Firefly, Hampden, Hellcat, Lysander, Meteor, V1, Whirlwind- with the exception of the latter 3, all the above have served with more than one airforce. Looking forwards to your thoughts, Adrian
  2. Stop hesitating, just go and get it!!!!!!!!' At £ 30 its a bargain.
  3. That is one amazing jaw dropper!!!!!!! without the crew figures superb, but with them & the extra finer details, you have built something really special. Regards Adrian
  4. Thank you Louis, That's exactly what I was looking for. My friends family has an MV collection which include a grizzly I would love to build. Looks like a distinct possibility now :) Regards Adrian.
  5. Hi having just seen this model is out, does anyone know if there are any after market Canadian pattern track being produced please? Many thanx Adrian
  6. Thanks for getting back to me Grahame, I've sent an e-mail, but forgot to ask, was the 1c used after D-Day?
  7. Can any Sherman fans point me in the right direction please? I have a couple of Tamiya M4 models which got knocked about in a house move, i.e. an M4 A1 & an M4 A3. Am I right in thinking that the welded hull of the A4 is basically that of an A1 fitted with the Diesel engines of an A3? So, if I mate the A3 engine deck, rear hull plate & exhausts to the A1 hull would that suffice hull wise to give me an A4? I know I will need a 17 pdr Barrel & the box at the back of turret to give me the right one but which hatch fit do I need? Can anyone also confirm which track pattern & wheels I'd need, I.e. rubber or steel chevron, open welded spoke or pressed steel & which sprocket type. Know doubt, it would be easier to purchase a new kit, but I fancy the challenge. Thanks for looking & if you can help please do. Regards Adrian
  8. Mainly GA types in and out of Gamston, however occasionally get Tigermoths from either Netherthorpe or Tresswell, but the odd gem like the BofBMF Dakota we had the other day & Vulcan a few weeks ago. Regards Adrian
  9. Thankyou both for that- just my curiousity for now. Regards Adrian
  10. Just want to know if anyone can tell me which Sherman tank was used for the Firefly, i.e. M4A? Regards Adrian
  11. What a beauty!!!! :) Its models built to this standard I feel both admiration and inspiration. I may not be alone on this one, but Ive kicked myself since Airfix first released the model for not getting one. Seeing this now means a dip in my pocket.........again!@! Thankyou for sharing. Regards Adrian
  12. What a beautiful model & wonderful story. I always find this hobby a great way of making their own tribute to those who served, more so those who gave. This is a model you have every right to be proud of, in more ways than one. Thankyou for sharing both. Regards Adrian
  13. Hi, It all depends on what you want out of the model. Having both kits there user both merit & faults which are a vain to rivet counters. Personally I've used the early canopy parts from the Hasegawa , so I'm happy with results I'm getting from the HobbyBoss kit. With the HobbyBoss, you have separate flying sufaces which is a. boon. Unfortunately chop and change is the only way to get close to decent Spitfire, but it may worth waiting for the new Revel release
  14. I know this kit has periodic releases, but is it currently in shops in the US, if so what sort of price? Many thanks, Adrian
  15. I agree with you entirely. Thanks again, Adrian.
  16. Hi Mark, you're a star!!!! Not only have you given me access to a very helpful photo, but it's in colour- bonus! Sorry if I sound over exited, but I worked at the airfield in the Budge years, so have wanted to build somthing representing the war years. I could have easily done 1/72, but when Trumpeter came out with a Mk III I knew a Mk X was achievable. The other thing I like about the photo is I may be able to pinpoint exactly where it was taken from at Gamston. So once again, many thanks for the web details. Regards Adrian.
  17. Oops, Just a bit of a slip, done on my mobile- small keys, big thumb - hadn't noticed the misplaced t, mind you it made me smile when I saw the reply, smiles. Maybe its because I'm often mistaken as being a Yorkshireman, due to my accent- I s'pose I should've said t' Italeri (the Italeri) 1/72 scale etc. As for the codes etc, that were t'one I was after!!! Lol, So many thanks to you both for your replies. Regards Adrian
  18. Just a quicky, but I'm building a 1/48th Wellington as a Gamston based aircraft- I.e. one of the aircraft on the Italeri decals sheet. I think the codes are Y9 - J, but don't know the aircraft serial. Can anyone with the kit please let me know. Thanks, Adrian
  19. Welcome to the FM Halifax completer's club! I did this kit a few years ago, so know what it entailed- boy have you pulled it off ! It certainly tests your skills, especially if it is your first bash at a limited production kit- as it was in my case. Well done that man. Ps not meaning to steal any thunder, but you can see my offering at AeroVenture. Once again top effort!
  20. That's a pity, the only reason I ask is that I am a member of the aircraft museum in Doncaster. The museum has a cracking Falklands display which includes a number of helicopters that saw action during the conflict. If you're ever back in Yorkshire, come & have a look. The museum is the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum- well worth a visit. Anyway, well done again, and welcome to the forum
  21. Wow, that is amazing, very well done that man! Incidentally, how far do you live from Doncaster?
  22. As a late & dear friend of mine who owned several Jeeps would say, "Unbelieveable - truly Unbelieveable" How can they justify charging such prices? Rad
  23. What a shame it has detail issues!!!!!! When you consider there are hundreds of surviving MB & GPW Jeeps plus countless Hotchkiss examples, at the price offered, it should be faultless. Thanks for all your feedback. Regards, Rad
  24. Hi Selwyn, Unfortunately I don't know of anything in 1/72 scale, but in 1/48 there was a decal set with a 613 sqn Mustang. Couple that with an Accurate miniatures kit & you could have a beauty on your hands. Failing that, the Eduard RAF Lysander in 1/48 has a 613 aircraft on the decal sheet- if you can find one!!!! Incidentally, I don't know if you're aware but they flew the Lysander & Curtis P40 in South Yorkshire. The Lysander was operated from Netherthorpe ( home to Sheffield Aero Club) Firbeck & Doncaster ( Home to South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum). It was at Doncaster, they exchanged the Lizzies for the P40. Regards Rad
  25. With the interest of the new 1/6 M4 A3 & some saying it is overpriced, I would like to know if Dragon's Willys Jeep is value for money & if it's a good kit please?
