Anyone else disappointed with HK Meteor?
Radpoe Spitfire replied to georgeusa's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Other than the price, my only qualm is that it would have been a greater kit if it had options for all marks in the same boxing- ie Mks1-4. That would reflect the price against the simplicity of the kit. Then again I am biased towards any Meteors flown by 616 sqn -
I saw this myself recently, pleased they're doing the 17z as well. Pity it's not in 1/32 scale

I like this, it's so nice to see models that hint at animation such as touching down. You've done a cracking job there It also brings back memories of loading them in all weathers, for me the only improvement you can do(on your next one) would be a gaggle of Movers & Techies milling over one to get ready for a flight- in the white scheme of course!!! I never got to work on them in the grey Regards Adrian

One of my all time favourites is "one of our aircraft is missing". There is also a post-war film that if memory serves my right has a story line about a target range near a haven for birdlife- lot of Meteor and Vampire sequences in colour- can I heck as like remember its title.

1970's Vulcans- need a little help please!
Radpoe Spitfire replied to Radpoe Spitfire's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Hi fellas, Thank you both for your replies, we're beginning to narrow things down a bit. I've seen a decal set at Hannants that fits the bill for a Waddington and I think a Scampton based aircraft from the 1970's, both in green/grey/white schemes. If you can both fill me in with some more detail, I'll get their in the end. I'm quite lucky in that I have a blue pressure jerkin displayed with a Mk 1 Taylor pressure helmet at Doncaster, is this the same pattern as the green jerkin if needed? Thanks again Adrian -
Hi, I've just been commissioned to build a Vulcan for a work colleague who'd like it finished in a 1970's Green/Grey/White scheme. Can anyone help with details of aircrew clothing, i.e. bonedome or cloth helmets, flying suit, boot & glove colours, ?? blue pressure jerkin with built in Mae West??- was one worn at that time? For the airframe, Humbrol colours please, and what style of jet pipe for the low level version, and any other relevent info? I have bulit a couple in anti-flash white & Black Buck colours, but want to get this one right for him. regards and Thanks for now, Adrian.

1/72 - Dornier Do.17z by Airfix - released
Radpoe Spitfire replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
I'm another who has a soft spot for The "Flying pencil". Looking at what is on offer with the test shots means it's on the want one list. -

It a good feasibility, the kits wing, nacelle and tail fin breakdown all allow for many Ju88 variants. It wouldn't take a great amount of effort for Revell to produce the different sprues required. I guess we will have to watch this space......and hope :-) Adrian

Nice to see a rumour come to life. Unless I am dreaming, I'm sure I've seen an advert with a price tag of £ 39.99. Still it's a very welcome addition to a growing range of 1/32 scale kits and most definitely on my wants list. Shall have a word with a certain museum shop manager to see if he can get some in.

Hello, does anyone know if there are any FE2B kits available please? I'd like to build one of the type as they flew from a nearby RFC aerodrome at East Retford, now Ranby Prison. Regards Adrian.

As Veltro's are a bit thin on the ground in this scale this is a cheap & cheerful kit that's a rough diamond. Often dismissed as toys, 21c kits aren't shake n bake. It isn't one for the work shy, but but does look pretty good even built OOB. You've built a little beauty there well done.

Hi, Procopius, Just to add a little more info, I'm sure the IWM website has a number of 616 Sqn Meteor photo's, including one which shows the cannons being cleaned- gives quite a good veiw of the front from cockpit to port air intake. All the best with the model, I'd love to see it finished. If you ever find yourself in the UK & in South Yorkshire, there's a display at the air museum dedicated to 616. Incidentally , the Sqn started off as a bomber Sqn, transferred to fighters & operated Spitfires from 1939 to 1944 and operated Marks 1,2,5b,6 & 7,evaluated the Mk 14. The final use was a single Mk 16 for pilot refresher flying. Regards Adrian & all the b est for 2014.

There were four Meteors used by 616 in NWE, painted in a temporary coat of white distemper. It was applied in theatre, direct over the existing paint scheme in an effort to distinguish them for ground troops. I beleive that the undercarriage bays were left as per factory finish. I hope that helps. Regards Adrian

Looks superb, one thing I'd like to ask, does the entrance hatch come as a seperate part? Overall you've done the model proud.

Airfix new 1/72 Hurricane - best Hurri of epic fail ?
Radpoe Spitfire replied to AlCZ's topic in Aircraft WWII
What I have seen of the kit is good enough for me- its aimed at the full spectrum of modelling abilities & it may have fault, but its well priced. But while I respect opinion, can we keep the xxxxx word out- my 8 year old sometimes reads threads with me. Call me over protective if you like, but a forum like this is not the right place for such words. -
Airfix 1/72 Hurricane I 'Rag Wing'
Radpoe Spitfire replied to Stew Dapple's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Very nice, & nice to see the "old skool" skills haven't vanished. I must admit you get a beautiful finish with an airbrush, but painting by hand takes quite a skill to produce a neat finish, especially using metallic paint. Well done -
German purple, does anyone make a paint this colour?
Radpoe Spitfire replied to Radpoe Spitfire's topic in Aircraft WWI
Thanks for all your replies, the Humbrol mix looks promising, thanks Paul. I know that there are so many paint issues out there, but given the number of First World War kits available, none of the mainstream manufactures have any in their ranges. Cheers Adrian -
Hi, I've got a couple of Eduard kits in the pipeline that use purple in the camouflage, does anyone produce a paint this colour, or can someone advise me how to mix the right shade please?
-
Hmmm, looks very tasty, I love the way the kit includes options for both early & later versions, i.e. windscreen, tail spine & 2/3 blade propellers. Well done Airfix- keep em coming!!!!!

It's fantastic news to see that it is being restored, but even more so that it has remained so intact after nearly a century, I wish someone would do a documentary about it.

Revell 1/48 Bristol F2b - who's plastic?
Radpoe Spitfire replied to Radpoe Spitfire's topic in Aircraft WWI
Ah, you mean the old weekend edition re-boxing chestnut, I thought so. Thanks for that one -
Saw this model for the first time today in my local Toymaster, I couldn't open the box, but is it a new tooling?
-
I'd love to, but I suffer the old " I'm skint" chestnut

1/24 scale..... What more can Airfix offer ?
Radpoe Spitfire replied to Radpoe Spitfire's topic in Aircraft WWII
Much as I would love to make a Defiant in this scale, I must admit I'd deliberately left out aircraft like it simply to focus on more commercially viable model kits. However my main point which I have highlighted with stars is how do people find the idea of being able to buy extra parts from Airfix as a separate product to produce a completely different variant? For aircraft such as the Spitfire or Me 109, to market these as a kit so they can be built as any model, would be a nightmare in financial outlay for both the manufacturer and modeller alike. Lets say that, if you as a modeller bought the basic Spitfire Mk 1a, then wanted to build a Mk XIV Griffon powered aircraft, it can be done, but the work will need to be scratch built and very expensive. If Airfix produced those parts as a commercial sideline, cost to manufacture will be cheaper than a full kit & modellers get a greater choice overall. Regards Adrian, Ps still like to see what your wish lists are.
