  1. Thank you gingerbob, that's the reference I need, much appreciated. Regards Adrian
  2. Hi just a simple question if anyone could answer please? Does anyone know the engine cowling length differential of the early (Mk I to Mk VI) and later (Mk VII to Mk IX/XVI) Merlin variants please? Or the length of the Tamiya XVI cowling at least- either will do. Many thanks Adrian
  3. I see no problem with that idea, a) you still get to enjoy the artwork, it will make a nice little archive- I often try to think of how many models I built over over the years and didn't give the artwork a thought- some not all I wished I'd kept. I do wish that manufacturers would consider releasing the painted box art as prints. My first choice would be for the 616 Sqn Airfix Meteor 3 from the 1970's, closely followed by their B17 "a bit o' lace". So go ahead, enjoy :-) :-) Adrian
  4. I agree it looks fine and certainly the right age of car, despite the scale difference. Put the car in the background with the figure and aircraft in front and I believe it will add depth to vignette, particularly when looked at from a horizontal perspective. As for being a Mach 2 kit, it might be a challenge, but hey, every kit is a blank canvas. I'm looking forward to see any photos when you have finished. Regards, Adrian
  5. Just out of curiosity, which aircraft will you model? Unless you have already done so, it might be worth surfing the internet for images of WW1 aircrew with their aircraft! Just a thought. Regards Adrian
  6. Hi Julian, not a problem, I've got a fondness for the Panzer IV. It was the first tank I built in 1/35 scale. Jus out of curiosity, I haven't looked closely, but can you build the Ausf D short barrel tank? Regards Adrian
  7. It's an open ended statement, As a subject matter I'm interested in seeing it start to finish. But after many, many years of Tigers, King Tigers & T-34's etc in this scale (40 years to my knowledge ) it's nice to see other tanks kitted 1/16 scale. And why not! As kits go in many scales and subjects we have a glut, whereas there is much that deserve to be better catered for. I applaud this release, and hope to look forward to see more variety in 1/16 in the years ahead. For the time being though, I look forward to the enjoyment of watching this kit come together :-) Regards Adrian
  8. At last, this looks like it's going to be interesting:-)
  9. I'd say a German marque with a French car as a secondary choice, no doubt a few were commandeered for the duration. I'm not sure what current kits are available, but there tends to be a good few for sale on evil bay. I like you're idea for the vignette, it'll add a nice side interest. Regards Adrian
  10. At the way some of the far eastern manufacturers to be going with 1/16 AFV's, 1/200 ships and 1/32 four engined heavies- it may be on the horizon in the next few years!!! ;-) ;-)
  11. Unfortunately we are going to see this response from some of the news media for the next few days, I'm afraid. It seems to me these days that shock and sensationalism sells news, not the full facts known as they develope. Sadly it's easy to jump to conclusions in the aftermath, if the general public were aware of how tight aviation regulations are, they'd hopefully realise that without them, we would likely see far more tragedy than we do now. It's a bitter pill for all involved to swallow and negative reaction is often the earliest. No doubt there are some onlookers who are using what has happened to fuel thier lobby against air shows, sadly it is often very narrow minded. For now the reality is to look after those affected, they need all the support that can be offered at this time.
  12. What a sad time for the air show season at present. With the Gnat, Spitfire and now the Hunter- all within a few weeks. This latest tragedy is so dreadful, my hope is that the death toll is now final and that for all those who died, they didn't suffer. My heart now goes out to those who lost their life, especially to their families who now are grieving for loved ones. It too goes out to the injured, the witnesses (particularly those in the immediate vicinity of the crash) and the show organisers and the pilot. It is they who now need a great deal of support and time to heal. As A&E ambulance staff, my thoughts also are for all the emergency service members who have had to deal with the incident. Situations of this magnitude are very rare, thank goodness, but even though you prepare yourself en route to a job, one like this is will be very traumatic to deal with in the days and weeks ahead, I hope they have the strength and the full support of family and work colleagues that they will need to get over this. Whatever the outcome, I pray we have no more for a very long time. Adrian
  13. There seems to be some bewilderment that Nelson is the next choice by trumpeter in its 1/200 series. To be fair, irrespective of the vessel, 1/200 scale is more than likely going to be the jewel in the crown of any ship collection. Each modelling genera has a scale that aims at the markets- for instance, 1/16 for MV's & AFV'S. 1/24 for fighter aircraft. I would love to have the budget, time and the space to build and display a single ship in this scale in my collection. Sadly I don't, however I do appreciate and enjoy the photos of the fruits of modellers that do. As for choice of subject, the design of class is an unusual one with all main guns on the foredeck, but they are as historic as any other vessel trumpeter have produced. I'm grateful that any manufacturer goes to such great length to satisfy our appetite in a hobby that is as volatile as modelling, given the current world economy. In my 40 odd years of kit building, many great names of manufacturers have gone, but never before have we had the opportunity to build such a diverse and wonderful range as we have today. Enjoy it while we can.
  14. Whilst on the subject, Airfix should be congratulated on a 1/48 Meteor- Whatever it's Mark. Despite it having issues as a jet aircraft, it stands shoulder to shoulder with the Spitfire and Hunter as a major UK aviation export- on that alone, it deserves better than what has been offered to modellers so far in 1/48 or even 1/24 or 1/32 scales. Regards Adrian
  15. If it's going to be 1/24 you want, they've got to chuck in moulds for everything ( wings, nacelles, cockpits, canopies and wheels etc) from a Mk 1 through to give options for every single seat variant & I'll be a happy chap. Regards Adrian
  16. Pity about a bit of negative response to this kit when it was first released i.e. It's inaccuracies. To me it looks superb, well done that modeller. Regards Adrian
  17. These are some some very interesting concepts you've created Andrew, which look brilliant. My favourite by a long mile is the "616" squadron Jetfire. How different history may have been had supermarine got the contract for a jet aircraft instead of Glosters. Brilliant imagination + superb finish= great fun visually. Regards adrian P.s. How you fixed for doing a conversion set for the Jetfire?
  18. It may not be perfect, it's a blank canvas, but it's a Wessex in 1/32 scale. Until another manufacturer makes a better kit, it's better than none. Regards Adrian.
  19. It is a sad fact that however hated the Nazi use of the swastika, it is part of the ships history- it's no fault of the ship it was adrorned with such symbol. I find it strange that one hand the symbol is banned, yet on a visit to Germany I found that efforts are being made to accept the wrongdoing by rightly preserving the concentration camp at Belsen. I also acknowledge that it was banned to prevent its use by Neo - Nazi groups, but you cannot fully accept history by destroying every element of evidence, in fear of it being used again- it only drives it underground.
  20. So do I, still miss the days watching the F4's during my air traffic days at Wattisham. I also made suggestions to the CO at Waddington (an ex- F4 jockey ) when I was based there to save the 74 Sqn F4J that was still complete, but on the BDRT inventory. That one, sadly, fell on deaf ears & was scrapped Regards Adrian
  21. Hi, just a quick ask, I'm currently building a Vulcan as a 1970's Waddington based aircraft. I'm looking at either Humbrol or Revell paints for the upper surface, can anyone help with the best green and grey for the two respective paint ranges please? Also did XH558 operate from Waddington during the early '70's in the green/grey & white colour scheme? Many thanks Adrian
  22. First of all, at last a decent Swift kit is born, but what a presentation!:-) It's so nice to see one as beautifully presented, it looks amazing. Well done that modeller.
  23. Remember, every kit is a blank canvas.

    1. azureglo

      azureglo

Mmm I feel a Jackson Pollock coming one.

  24. What a stunning build of a beautiful and well loved "Lady". I know you said you didn't t think it perfect, I disagree- how you interpret perfection is personal to you.:-), for me a general guide is if it looks stunning at 2m away, then I'm happy. I love the addition of the vehicles, it sets the scene. Regards Adrian
