Hi folks, just a quick question.
Copper State Models have released a number of Armstrong Whitworth FK.8 kits, but does anyone know if any of them have options for an 82 Squadron example please?
Many thanks Adrian

That is........ one helluva jaw dropper, I wish I could build to that standard.

Hi Folks
Just unpacking my stuff after a great weekend in Perth for the Scottish Nationals,
Thought I would share this one.
Academy kit OOB(apart from stretched sprue for aerial. The masks for the paintwork were in the kit as were two crew figures.
Cheers
Keith

What a little cracker - takes me back to when I did some work on the Budge collection.

What a cracking M3 build, my only gripe if I may are the US pattern Jerrycans. Other than that, the overall detail especially the internal is amazing - its a stunner. Well done

this has probably been in an earlier topic, but I want to do this kit as Michael Wittmann's 1st Panzer Division tank from January 1944, in dark yellow/white. however the painting guide only has the side view!
So, can somebody please help me out with how the winter camouflage and marking locations for the front, plan starboard and rear of his tank?
many thanks Adrian

In reply to my above, just looked at ebay and if you put in 1/48 RAF personnel, the ICM sets are listed for around £9.
You may have to do a bit of "plastic surgery" to re-pose the figures.👌
-
I don't tend to use figures in my kits, but there are one or two sets of RAF 1940 period figures around- if memory serves me, ICM springs to mind and the Airfix Hurricane/Albion/Bedford Battle if Britain sets has figures.
Might be worth having a look at various model shops on the Web or evil bay.

Wow, that was a nostalgic trip there, I'd been modelling for a few years before I built my first FROG - it was the Canberra b (i)8.
I never remember seeing many frog kits in my local model shops in Worksop - but there was a toy shop called G.R. Nutbrown's who did. I couldn't afford them but remember him sell many of the larger kits. Since that first one, I've built a few under various labels, but one thing impressed me was they produced quite a few rare beasties.
Thank you for sharing.

Pleased to see that you go to SYAM, I am currently a non active museum member, but some of my models are displayed. I've made more than one can remember since I joined over 30 years ago, but the list includes the following;-
3× airfix Vulcans, XL321, XM607 & an all white Finningley based 230 OCU.
Hampden BZ-N, again Finningley based.
1/48 Fonderie Miniatures Halifax KW-U,
NA581 of 425 sqn.
1/48 Whirlwind in SAR wing yellow.
1/32 I.D.models F.8 Meteor in 616 sqn colours RAF Worksop.
1/32 Revell DHL Mosquito converted into a NF30, RAW-O of 616 sqn Finningley 1948.
I could go on, but I'd have to have a good look around to see what is there.
Kind regards Adrian

Yayyyy - so nice to see a 616 Squadron F.8👍and a lovely build to boot.
It might be worth trying through South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum at Doncaster to confirm if a letter "K" was carried on WH474's nose wheel door. (I do know they had them on their Mk 4 Meteors) - they're affiliated to the 616 Squadron association. The museum's number is 01302761616.
On a more personal note, a dear and much missed friend, Frank Betts served as a fitter with 616 at both RAF Finningley and RAF Worksop upto the squadron disbandment in 1957. The last time I saw him, he asked me " If you do me one thing, never forget 616".
WH434 was one of his aircraft, so I'm very chuffed to see this one, as no doubt he would be. I've yet to buy this kit, but have some 616 decals waiting in the wings.
Thank you so much for sharing - it's made my day👍

I've got a number of model kit photos on my phoneI'd love to share, but haven't a clue where to start. I've just signed up to Flickr.

What a jawdropper! I know WnW kits are amazing- this standard of build and finish makes them exceptional.
I wish I could get halfway to this finish- well done fella👍👍👍👍
-
Can never get fed up of seeing a Meteor (- especially in 616 sqn colours😅) however what a cracker! Well done fella👍
Hope to get one so I can do my own 616 F.8
-
These both look superb - even more so given the scale! I guess the size of the Hetzer is about 45-50mm overall.
Well done 1:144 it's not a scale I'd endeavour to build as an armour subject but you have certainly mastered it.👍👍

Hello Britmodellers, and a very Happy New Year to everyone.
The holidays allowed me to finally finish a build that was intended as a tribute to Edgar Brooks. Although Edgar was knowledgable on other aircraft types he is probably best known for his grasp of all things Spitfire.
To that end, I felt a Spitfire was the ideal type to build and in this case, the jewel that is Tamiya's large scale offering.
I opted for the MkXVIe to compliment the earlier Revell MkIIa version that I'd built before. It is easy to see how things developed on the airframe with the two side by side in the cabinet.
The engineering of the kit is widely documented and rightly so. These latest Tamiya models are some of the most pleasurable kits to build and even I can get the thing to look half reasonale (from a distance).
So with that preamble out of the way, here are a few pics of my tribute to Mr Brooks. Blue skies Edgar. *
Apologies, the hosting site has taken it's ball away and gone home so I'll add more images when it stops messing around.
Cheers.
What a cracker, so nice to see a Lovely Silver Spitfire, you've done a lovely job on this one.
It's also nice to see it in a former RAF Finningley based aircraft scheme - it would look nice stood next to a HK models Mk 4 Meteor finished as a 616 Squadron aircraft as both flew from Finningley around the same time.
Thank you for sharing

Nice to see this old lady making an outing - looking forward to the build.
Much to my regret, I have yet to do this kit (in over 40 years of modelling) - despite having a family connection to the real Sunderland at Hendon- my late Uncle Stuart was a trustee for the aircraft when it was at Pembroke.
I hope you enjoy the build as much as we look forward to its progress😊

Hi All,
Some pics of 3 Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk 1s I did as a quick build project. this is the kit that I made when getting back into modelling a little over 2 decades ago & it goes together just as well as it did then. I found it was just as fast to build 3 as to build one. Well, my self-critique is that the brown is wrong ( a little too chocolat-ey) as I had run out of Dark Earth and tried to mix some that looked different in the jar (honestly!) but anyhow..,
and QJ-D is fictional.
Three very nice Mk1's there, but the QJ-D might not be that fictional!
During the Battle of Britain, both 92 and 616 sqns carried the QJ codes, I'm sure that 616 had one coded QJ-D, but uncertain of its serial number.👍

That is a little cracker- especially considering the scale👍👍
Well done
Ironically I live around the corner of a car service garage, which has one of these types of QL.
Sadly the guy won't sell-yet

Thanks everyone for the kind remarks, I thought the rotor fold with the tail being folded gives the aircraft a bit more interest , later on in the future I might decide to chain it down on a helipad !
Radpoe thanks for the info on XZ246 when I am up that way I shall make a point of going to see her.
Guy
Your more than welcome, there is a photo on the museum's website if you'd like to have a quick look👍

What a beauty- you have done a cracking job.Hi all,
This is my first RFI so I give you the Revell 1/32 Lynx HAS 3 done as the HMS Endurance bird and it was an out of the box build apart from some details in the cockpit , and of coarse the scale warship rotor fold, it was painted with Vellejo Acrylics and a bit of Humbrol enamel with a Humbrol matt varnish. A couple of things to finish off (just noticed ).
Guy

If you want to see the real XZ246, she recently arrived at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum in Doncaster.

Sorry, it's called the Normandy Tank Museum - the one next to the N13 road near Carantan. It's on the former A10 airfield.

Built this for the Maurice Landi GB on the 'Unofficial Airfix Modellers Forum'. It's the Matchbox Vickers Wellesley I, and it's virtually OOB except for an aerial wire and a couple of external details. I did make the decals though as I was a bit dubious about the kit's 30-year old sheet. Even used the Matchbox crew figures. It was a pleasant change of pace to build something without over-thinking it.

What a cracking build of the Wellesley and finished in 76 sqn colours as well
I understand the type began its service with 76 at RAF Finningley, so as I have a soft spot for all things that flew in South Yorkshire/ North Nottinghamshire - then you have, Aviation wise made my day
Thank you for posting

Provided it's less than 2.5 metres high it shouldn't be a problem 😆
