Revell 1/32 Phantom RF-4C USAF
Phartycr0c replied to bexwh773's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
This is turning into a lovely bird. Greg is right, the outside surface of the airbrake is body colour. the inside is red, the inner recess is white. The red colouring provides a visual warning reference that the brake is down, a tactic taken from US naval aircraft which have red edges to the wheel bay and other ancillary doors so ground crew dont smack their noggin or when in flight, observers can see wether or not a panel is open. when it shouldn't be. Keep up the good work. Thought you were partaking in the Phantom Gb -
I will be mostly converting one of these to one of these Probably somewhat predictably she will be finished as ZE887 of 11 sqdn in 2005 90th anniversary scheme. She will be the first of my 11 sqdn jet project which will consist of an F6 Lightning, this F3 Tornado and a current Typhoon all 1/32. anyhow, I promise I will be a bit more regular with the updates.

Scratchbuilding really is something iv'e never been any good at. To see such an unusual subject being built here, is something of a fascination for me. I will be watching this.

Folks, I know I need shooting when it comes to this Work In Progress, Iv'e hardly been giving regular updates purely because I cant balance exactly how much you guys and gals would be interested in. For starters, the purists would be able to drive the proverbial coach and horses through this build in terms of accuracy and dare I say it, scale. For example things like the IR receivers, flare dispensers various lumps bumps and bulges, are very much "Guesstimated" from photos Iv'e collected and roughly scaled up / down as needed. The actual equipment hanging off the sides may not be totally accurate and iv'e totally omitted the external winch, However I do know that when BN was initially deployed to Iraq this wasn't fitted, neither were the Massive dust filters on the engines. To bring everyone up to date, I have scratch built the bumps and bulges using Miliput, plastic card, copper wire and leftover resin offcuts. She was painted with Humbrol 86 then washed with a mix of Humbrol 86 and revell 16 a, light yellow brown. I was aiming for a dusty work worn look and believe me that is exactly what I had up to the point of sealing her with Citadel Purity seal which dumbed down the dusty look a little too much for my liking. Superb decals were supplied by Paul at Parkes682Decals. they went on well and settled down beautifully considering im using Klear as a setting agent. Anyhow on with the show. Oh and the walkway decals are far too bright. If there is a next time I will be spraying them!!!! Overall I just hope you folks think I have done such a historic bird as Bravo November the justice she deserves. -
Remiss of me, Iv'e only just seen this one! count me in but with what as yet I dont know. It will however be an aircraft of some description! possibly even a 1/35 Hind. Just as long as the dates dont clash with the Phantom GB !

That, sir is outstanding stuff! I really do love the battered appearance of this wee beastie. I know they were'nt really looked after and were flown hard with little maintainence. Youv'e captured that superbly. As far as the lights go, either build up with superglue and shape or have a go with Humbrol clearfix

Rich, Thats looking seriously nice! The salt technique has worked wonders as has the paint masking for the roundels. Top Work! Now you need a nice IL-2 with skis!

some models that me and dad done
Phartycr0c replied to Ryand's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
agreed. Great start in the hobby. Modelling you can share with your dad. Computer games, not so much. enjoy these times and although you dont realise it, modelling will help you with your hand eye coordination problem solving skills and material handling, seriously. Well done to you and your dad. -
This is pretty orangy, especially the bit in the middle

There are vast differences in the shades applied to Flankers. Whilst the initial colours were called out as a Blue-grey, medium blue and pale blue respectively, Russian air force Flankers were very rarely hangared, and as a result were exposed to the harsh weather conditions. This faded paint so much that some of them appeared as almost one colour except around the canopy area which was covered with tarpaulins, protecting the paintwork sufficiently it appeared as nature intended. Most colour paint sets will call out "factory fresh" colours which is ok, but the Flankers really do suffer badly with fading. I used Modelmaster paints on my Trumpeter Flanker and TBH If I were doing it again, I would look to lighten the dark blue grey quite a bit. I think its is a case of researching the example you want to model than approximate the colours. Hopefullly you cas get what I mean in variation Here Hope this helps?

Thanks for the replies thus far folks. I am guilty of neglecting updates for this thread, however I have been doing some 1:1 room painting. Thats my excuse and im sticking to it. Here is some more progress. I have constructed, and fitted the Eduard troop seats which very kindly include individual belt buckles at the top and on the lap belts themselves. This was extremely time consuming to say the least, however once in progress recommenced at pace. here is where I am now. Check out those buckles Here's Dave on the back door gun. He was made up from bits and bobs from the spares box with a bit of hacking and sticking. Like Frankenstein, He Lives! Shades provided by Oakley (other shades are available!) Somebody's got his war face on! Anyhoo, I promise i wont leave it so long next time. Next up is all the lumps and bumps associated with the HC 2 -

some lovely builds there, what on earth are you going to do when Revell release the 1/32 Hawk offering??
-
Folks, I dont know if its is of interest, but This Link contains some shot I took at Bruntingthorpe in May last year when the LPG kindly opened its doors to allow full access to their lovely Lightnings. Indeed 728 well and truly had her clothes off. Hope they provide some useful references and would it be worth making this a sticky?

Thanks for the replies, they are now gone Mark, That project would be Fantastic! I assume the image gets converted to regular sized rolls of wallpaper or does it end up akin to an advertising poster?

Many years ago, after meeting SWMBO I had to move my twin boys, then 5, into their shared bedroom as their nasty step sister had moved in. Obviously before doing so I did a little decorating, and decided to make it into a "proper" boys room. to that end, I borrowed a OHP a nicely illustrated book and some acetate and set to work on some appropriate murals. Anyhow, they are now popping towards 14 and have to all intents and purposes, grown out of the theme although both still love aircraft, so prior to redecoration and losing these pictures under some lining paper, I thought I would share them with you folks. I am not, and never can profess to be an artist in any way, but this is the result of following a few lines with a pencil, some emulsion, and early learning ready mixed paints. and yes the FW 190 wings are WELL out of proportion! . Ah well! sad to seem go

Iv'e posted This link in he photography section as it is IMHO, a fantastic thread depicting a wonderful aircraft and obviously has tons of photos for reference, assuming you can weigh photos in tons! Mods, if its in the wrong place feel free to move it.

1:32 Trumpeter Lightning corrections
Phartycr0c replied to Iain Ogilvie's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Oh good grief! do your talents know no bounds? This is superb stuff. An Aires set of exhausts looks like a necessity. Likewise, Im now reluctant to execute an oob build as due to the money. You would expect the thing to be right, but exactly where do you draw the line? -

Righty ho, a short update re this build. Progress has been a little on the slow side but heres where we are at the mo. Bert and Ernie are now fully armed! and installed into their respective seats. I do have to say that the trumpy figures are not the best but they'll do. The floor was painted washed and drybrushed as was the rear bulkhead. And now introducing Keith, the door gunner! I have two 134 miniguns to go in together with a cheeky M60 for the rear load ramp. Only problem is finding a suitable figure for the rear gun. Roll on Telford. The resin gun really is a work of art. Next up detailing the rear load compartment, the troop seating and building the door gunner Diorama. -
