Right thats it! firstly you are producing a top quality F4 complete with the worlds allocation of armament, secondly you casually come along and announce possessing probably one of the most radical and sought after products ever conceived from the Bologna temple!
Me? Jealous? no Not in the slightest!!!!!!
Seriously keep up the great work and thrash that bike to within an inch of its design envelope! Oh and keep up the good work on the F4.

M8 That is superb, congratulations on such a lovely build. You've done a top job of getting rid of that annoying seam which runs through both parts of the canopy transparencies.
I am very shortly embarking on this adventure, I.e within the next week. I will be taking a lot of cues from this build!

great work mate!
i see a bit of silvering between the numbering and the cross on the fusalage right side or it is just the photo?
Thanks for the positive comments guys, The silvering is in fact the matt of the decal against the gloss of the paintwork. Im hoping it will settle down with the final satin coat.

Bit of an (overdue) update on my builds. and a little pic intensive to boot.
As I said the F4F is pretty much out of the box, to this end she has progressed further than the C in fact she has been into and come out of the paint shop!
Because of the size of the thing, I have experimented with a slightly different approach and deployed Humbrol rattle cans!
Firstly I did the rear metallic areas in polished aluminium, then following masking, covered her with Midnight Blue.

Now I wasn't completely convinced by the shade of blue, It looked too light sat there drying in the sunshine, but i was surprised to find out of direct sunlight she settled down to something close to the actual blue.

I can recommend these paints as they dry quickly and provide a superb gloss finish. On the downside, the paint flows out of the cans really quickly and if you are not careful, the recessed panel lines can become "flooded, losing some detail. Other than that, for covering ground quickly they are fine.
Next I went back to an airbrush for the gold leading edges

Then to the decals. The sheet supplied with this kit is sublime! not too thick but workable without tearing, they have settled down beautifully, then I do use Klear as the setting agent.!

Im still only a third of the way through the decals of which there are loads.
Next up will be some detailing and toning down of the paintwork, a little light washing then she will be done.
The C on the other hand now has the start of a cockpit.

Sorry for all the photos.

So, How did you get on John??
-
Agreed! My efforts are pretty poor by comparison.. Found my D200 needs a good clean and probably some new optics!
beautiful photos.

Likewise got a touch windburnt, very well worth it and some really moody dark backgrounds for the photography courtesy of the showery weather.
Ian, The Dommies look like they have have had new markings on the tails... think they may have changed ownership. Not sure how long they will be there for.
Loved the Hunter gathering... a superb tribute to a superb aircraft.
Great day.

2nd that.. Keep the details and interest list then set a date for early next year.

Thanks for organising this booked the time off in anticipation.!

Happy the crew escaped alive, beyond belief really seeing that wreckage, numbers certainly were nt up today.
That is so so sad seeing a classic airframe in such a state.

Ey up John, from my few excursions to the loop I can offer the following.
Cad West
due to the shape of the valley, the approaching aircraft have to execute a slight right turn producing topside shots but the climb onto the ridge can be a little steep / slippery if wet worth while though.
You will be shooting into sun early morning but as the day progresses, the sun moves off too your right (as you face the valley) and isnt too much of a problem.
Cad East, the opposite applies, sun is actually behind you first thing and moves off left as the day progresses. Cad East can produce some superb head on shots as the aircraft barrel directly towards you ,execute the turn then level out but mainly undersides and profiles. One advantage of Cad East is that you can drive almost to the top via a conveniently placed farmers track. Park at the top and a short walk puts you right on the edge as it were. Can however be a bit boggy so take some good boots.
Bwlch.
Three shelves of varying height and difficulty to reach. Sun position is not an issue as it is behind all day. Actually it produces some really nice affects on the opposing hillsides. (if you appreciate that sort of thing). Top shelf, you will be looking straight down on your subjects wheras the bottom, you will have a bit of hillside /sky as your background. Choice is yours, dependEnt on energy levels.
It takes a fit healthy geezer around 40-50 mins to get from the car park to the top shelf.
I would say though, if you can get yer mitts on a cheap wind shelter (Half a tent) do it to shelter between showers, get out of the wind, or keep the sun off yer bonce. Proper clothing is a must! weather changes.......well like the weather. dont do the shorts and teeshirts bit.
Movements are really unpredictable. Usually Valley sends up a weather aircraft early doors, around 7.30 - 8.00 some days to check the lie of the land then reports back to the info services, from then on movements really are in the lap of the gods. There certainly is no best time.
It is worth staying all day until early evening as there are some late movements occasionally, and if you can do multiple days do it .
Google earth is your friend! The Red Dragon in Dinas Mawdwyy is a great B&B good ale and food.
One thing about going to the loop is that aircraft movements aside, the peace and tranquility of the place is outstanding.
A few phots to whet the appetite!

Mind you you will need eyes like the proverbial S..thouse rat there are two aircraft in this pic

and two from the Bwlch

You get the idea, Enjoy your visit!

What can I say? as we all now know Cosford was pretty much a washout. Superb work however by the organisers and more importantly the Pilots who despite heavy rain / low cloud, got airborne to provide at least something.
Anyhow after arriving early at Cosford, in sunshine, come 8.00 it started raining so after a short deliberation, i decided to "pop" to Shawbury to see if there was any action. It was Hooning it down and I ended up wetter than a mermaids purse. The reds however, minus 1 due to going tech on the runway at Shawbury, did go for a play to Welshpool for a fly past then returned to provide a 10 minute flat basic display over the airfield.
On return the aircraft landed right on the threshold of the runway to make the most of the limited wet runway length, so much so they wer almost on the grass!
I actually managed a load of shots but here's three for delectation.

Incredible work!

Bring on the salt method!

Ok a long overdue update on the Tooms.
Firstly built like a demon last weekend then...... nothing until tonight.
Progress so far on the F4f
Cockpit is done washed and in. and the main bits have been bunged together.

The main fuselage has been joined but unusually for a Revell Kit, I have had to deploy the filler.
Probably me rushing TBH

Iv'e also dropped the flaps as per an F4 parked up.

Meanwhille the F4 C hasnt escaped my attention. I have first of all ordered some Model master ADC grey for the paintwork. Didnt realise it was quite so scarce, Like the CE decals!
Then I took saw to plastic on this very expensive kit! This was hacking chunks out of the intakes area to accept the Seamless Suckers resin. Lovely parts they are to!
Anyhow heres where we are.

The cutting took an age! right on some strengthening seams you see. Made a bit of a cock up on the starboard intake but im not showing you that! .......yet!
The two beasties together

Next up, tail area on the F4 F Cockpit on the F4 C

great news! monitoring progress as we speak.

Folks I am so rubbish at build threads! work has intervened, My wife asked who I was when i came home the other night!!!!
In the very limited time in between work and cutting the lawns etc, I have finally finished the Oob F4F Remebering this was a pressie for my bud who reached the big five oh, I only missed the target by two weeks!
Anyhow Im finally declaring her finished.
Weathering is at an absolute minimum with a little dirtying around the back end and a few of the larger grills.
Photos ar'nt the best as i'm testing my new Sigma 200-300 macro lens and the flash makes the blue look a lot lighter than it actually is.
Although this has been rushed, I have really enjoyed the build I will be taking a lot more time over my Michigan build as I want to get her absolutely spot on!
Although Ill attempt to crack on with my ANG build, it is highly likely I will miss the target as I have got an "emergency" Eurofighter to complete before September for 29 Squadron!
Thanks for looking
