Nothing wrong with that Steve, you’ve smartened up that basic cockpit quite well and thats a great result from where you started off with.

Apologies for getting onto this thread so late. Thats a big brave kit to start off as your first GB, but your’e making a great start, so well done and keep going. This will look amazing once built.

There’s still plenty of life left in these old classic kits and here’s a perfect example of what can be achieved with a little effort and a new decal sheet. Well done Steve, that’s beautiful.

Back in those days, as a passenger you would get bumped from your seat, because that bag of mail brought in more.
I work for a major airline and this sentiment still exists if you talk to certain members of our freight division. To quote an industry phrase…. “ Passengers are just self loading cargo!”.

Why the "Big Guys" did not released a decent Battle for over 40 years? Should we give them another 40 years to react?
Although I concur with @bjohns5 comments that this will likely kill off other manufacturers, the above comment holds equally as much weight. Like most on here, we are all a little suspicious with what this new Battle kit will look like, however at the end of the day it’s been a long neglected subject from all the major players, so Trumpeter deserve some credit for considering the type as a 2023 release. Let’s all hope it’s a good one.

Best of luck with this excellent choice of subject. Although history suggests that a new kit will be announced within days of you completing this build, for some reason I still think we will be left short of a decent fishbowl 1/72 Canberra kit. I wish you every inch of success and it looks good so far.

Just had a thought...if ASW patrols qualify...I've got a S-3B that I've gotten as far as spraying the base grey in the resin cockpit.
I cannot see why it wouldn’t be, as we’ve got a Shackleton in the mix already. Sub spotting, artillery spotting…. It’s kinda similar in role I think.

That’s looking superb Patrice well done. I’m surprised you’ve gone for an Israeli option seeing there’s so many great French SM schemes out there, but have to say that’s one of my favourites.

Nice start and quite detailed for an oldish kit. That chubby pilot seems pretty happy too!

That’s a big-un to commit to within a GB time period. Most certainly doable and hopefully will just fall together easily enough for you. I hear this moulded in UK version goes together better than the earlier (Indian moulded) Mk.2 Shack so that might be something. I’ve got both kits, although haven’t made a start to either.
Cheers and all the best.. Dave-

And we are ‘IKU’ …… that means ‘GO'!
I made a quick start to this basic little Beechcraft Mentor kit and decided up front to tweak it a bit. The two seats had a few minor plastic imperfections that I couldn't seem to sand out, so I decided to make some seat cushions out of ribbed plastic card. The cockpit sidewalls have no detail whatsoever so I used some plastic strip and a little imagination to make something representative. Please don't use this as reference material, I have no idea what the real aircraft looks like.
The instructions advise you to build up the main undercarriage struts before assembling the wings together so I took their advice and followed it. The instructions also provide a little kiddies warning… and I quote - “After the parts are taken out, cut the bag into pieces to prevent the infant from covering its head”! Fair enough I suppose!!
Here’s the first progress pic.
Cheers and good luck to all GB members.. Dave

For what’s it worth and to make you fell better, I would have ‘impulsively’ done the same thing as well. Come to think of it, I just bought a Heller Black box Mirage 2000 last night, not having ever thought about the subject prior to this GB! She looks like a quick build, however you may get bogged down tidying up some of those joins, I’m sure you make a good go of it either way.

My god this has come around fast…. I’ve got builds in the ‘Salty Dog’, ‘Dassault’ and todays (just started) ‘Big in Japan’ GB and now this one opens up! I’ve been trawling my stash trying to find something suitable and it just dawned on me how many kits Heller produced back in the day which included some type of Recon nose option. Off the top of my head I know of the -
Saab TunnanSaab Draken
Saab Lansen
Saab Viggen
Mirage III
RF-84 Thunderflash 1/48
RT-33 Shooting Star
There may be others too.
Now the hard bit.. what to choose?

Sorry Rob, I’ve been a regular Avalon airshow goer for probably the last five occasions, however will sit out this ‘Covid delayed’ event as I promised my son a trip to the Australian Grand Prix, which is only a few weeks apart. Last time I went to Avalon (2019), I think I spent more time sitting underneath the $200 seat ticket stand than on it…. boy was it hot that day, 39 degrees C and looking straight into the afternoon son, not a great day.
Cheers and have fun.. Dave.

Marcel Bloch / Dassault Aviation GB Chat

Just touching base to say that this GB is going well enough with some great progress and subjects being built. Interesting to note that we still don’t have a Mystere IV nominated as a build thread as yet, which is a bit of a shame. I have a bagged copy of the old Matchbocx kit, although it lacks clear parts and as far as I can see there’s no AM canopy available for this kit. I’ll update my Ouragan build shortly and possibly consider a second Dassault build, although that’s dependant on my other GB progress.
Cheers and keep ‘em coming.. Dave
