Is that an FB.9 or an FB.5?? I cannot see any differences with either port or starboad engine intakes. The rear engine exhaust nozzle looks a little long as well. Almost Venom-esque. Not sure about the Wheel Well cutouts, arn't they supposed to be squared off at the outboard sides (similar to early BF109's)??? What a shame as I really like the way they have split the mould with the wings and fuselage attached. We can only hope that Airfix will upscale there 1/72 new mould to 48th scale for 2014. At least you can be assured that they won't get the basics wrong. Cheers (a very disappointed) Dave.

This year I will be going.......(Vallejo) I think!
Rabbit Leader replied to Tornado's topic in Paint
Now if we all chipped in a pound or two and bought pte1643 one paint bottle each, we just all might get our answers earlier. When you think of it, it's probably cheaper than all of us doing a similar / half cocked experiment ourselves anyway? I had a play the other day and found that their Model Air 71.016 was a good match for RAF Dark Green, whilst their Grey Primer was (to my eye ) not a bad match for Medium Sea Grey and perhaps Post War Light Aircraft Grey - in a Matt Format (not a real fan of Semi Gloss paints). Thats to my eye. I'm sure others have come up with other matches. If so please post here. Cheers and keep the topic rolling. Dave. -

Many thanks, that's a great little leaflet. I have quite a few of these colours so will give them a try. Not sure if you've had the chance to apply most of these colours, however do you believe they are a good representation of RAF colours? I found that Vallejos RLM02 equivalent was quite a bit darker than it should be. I'm thinking about adding a fair bit of white to the basic colours, however as i'm a bit of a slack ar$e would rather something that looks good straight out of the bottle. Cheers and thanks once again. Dave. -

Tornado, Thought I'd put my 20 cents in (or is that 15p). I took the plunge a while back when I made a few Luftwaffe models and did not have any RLM colours in my paint collection. I purchased a few Model Air paints from an eBay retailer in the UK as my local hobby shop in Brisbane did no stock these. A few mates convinced me to go the airbrush way, however the whole mixing paint / thinner / ratio thing then firing through the brush was rather hit or miss for me. Almost to the point where i was considering chucking the whole hobby in (well maybe not that drastic). Anyway my point is that these model air paints gave me the confidence to keep going as they took the initial hassle away. I do use a few drops of their Medium thinner and the whole airbrush paint application is way easier. I have to agree with others above, the colours are a bit hit and miss and quite a good deal darker. Spray on a coat of clear and your way off where you really wanted your colour to be. This then is my next issue, which will be to either search their range for a better match or mix with a dose of white. Anyone got a better combination of Model Air numbers for the basic RAF WW2 colour range? Cheers and good luck. If these paints increase your confidence like it did to me - then thats not a bad thing. Cheers. Dave -
I had a similar problem with 1/48 Meteor F.3 decals and was directed to Fantasy Printshop decals who make quite a large range of code letters and numbers in various colours. Don't forget to view the Xtradecal range on the Hannants website. They have a set that gives you both 24 & 30inch codes. I'm sure you'll find something that will fit. Cheers Dave.

Armed Forces of Malta decals? Suggestions
Rabbit Leader replied to Rabbit Leader's topic in Aircraft Modern
That's Fantastic news.. after yesterday's Airfix 2013 announcements, looks like i'm in for a great year. Can you give me any idea what subjects will be included.Just found the website and no mention of this there. I take it that with a profile name of "Blackbird" you may have some insider knowledge? Any additional information such as possible release dates would also be great to know. Cheers and thanks for thr reply. Dave. -
Airfix 2013, some interesting new releases!
Rabbit Leader replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
Mr. Airfix, Can I just say I am very, very pleased with your selection of new kits for 2013. I was a little sceptical a few days ago, however you have made many model fans happy during this festive time of year. It would be great to somehow get an approx timeline of when these kits will hit the shelves. Of the sixty new releases, I believe I already have my money spent on at least twenty of those. Vampires, Lightning, Fabric wing Hurricane, Lancs, 48 Javelin, Bomb supply set... the list goes on and on. Congratulations and please release these as soon as possible. I will sleep very happy tonight. Cheers . Dave. -

According to the Airfix Facebook page 4 hours ago "It's coming...2013 THE range announcement..." Fingers crossed we will know in a few hours. By the way, most of you Brits better be off to bed. It's getting pretty late in that part of the world. Can you loan us some of your winter weather, Dam hot and sticky in Brisbane at the moment. Might just need to hop in the pool for a quick dip. Cheers. Dave. -
What are Airfix likely to give us next year?
Rabbit Leader replied to Rev.Light's topic in Aircraft WWII
Yeh - I noticed this a couple of days ago. At one stage you could still view the page via the Airfix products link, however that seems to have gone as well. Perhaps they are working on a new 2013 link? Not long now until we hear the news. Although I'd love a brace of new moulds, I'm not getting my hopes up. At least that way ill be pleasantly surprised when this list comes out. A new Vampire seems to be happening - that's one big tick. And it appears that the box art is already done, judging by the advent Calender. Lets hope it's a soon to be released job. Cheers. And hopefully the Airfix Santa will be kind to us all. Dave. -
Airfix 2013, some interesting new releases!
Rabbit Leader replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
Thankfully it will 10.00am in Brisbane. Quite a more gentlemanly time. For once (besides the weather) living in Australia has its benefits. I'm also hoping that the Lightning will be anything but an F.6. Why can't we just start with an F.1 and get a new release mark each year thereafter. Chees. Dave. -
All, Can anyone out there shed some light on where can I obtain any decals that represent aircraft used by the Armed Forces Of Malta. I have the old Airfix SA Bulldog, Islander & Bird Dog and would dearly love to start these with some hope of having some decent decals to furnish them with. The roundels seem similar to the Danish red/white, however have the George Cross inserted in the inner white area. It appears that they may have changed these slightly of late to a narrower outer red ring, however I've not seen any decals that would suit. Please to hear from anyone who has an idea of where i can obtain decals or a similar interest in this Islands Aviation wing. Cheers. Dave.

1/72 Lightning F.6 1/48 Vampire NF.10 1/48 Harrier GR.3 1/72 Lancaster B.II; wings the only new part 1/72 Hurricane I 1/72 Typhoon I 1/72 Fw 190A-3 1/72 Gladiator I Quite a good list there - well done. Yep not long now until we are all over the moon, or perhaps a little disappointed. I still recall being rather a tad flat after last years announcements, however overall it was still a good year for Airfix. The moulds are improving each and every time. I have their latest P-51 Mustang and am very happy with its quality. Now my thoughts are that the Vampire will be a T.11 and god forbid new wings on an old Lancaster mould?. What about the Yellowjacks Gnat in 1/48? And there's apparently 32 'Fresh / New?' Moulds on there way. Cheers . Dave. -
All, I downloaded a preview of the January issue of Airfix Model World on my iPad to see that next years Airfix Catalogue features a lovely image of a Dambuster Lanc on the cover. Now - I've just purchased my airfreight copy of the mag (love the Calender) and noticed that in the printed version the catalogue shows an image of the Merlin HC.3?. I know I'm not seeing things as others on this forum have commented about a new mould Lancaster being released next year. With the cover being a good clue. Anyone else spotted this bizarre twist? Cheers, Dave

Airfix 2013, some interesting new releases!

Go to ehattons.com and do a comparison quote. The kits will be cheaper (less VAT) and postage will cost no more than 5.00GBP, possibly even cheaper. What pricing benefits does being an Airfix member offer you. Cheers Dave -
Always wanted to build one like this. Great inspiration. Just love the yellow around the canopy frames. Excellent build. Well done. Dave.

Airfix 2013, some interesting new releases!
Rabbit Leader replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
Steve, Although I'm not a subscriber to Facebook, I did see a list on Airfix's facebook page a couple of days ago, and all winners thus far were from the UK. I agree, we down this part of the world must only make up a small token of Airfix's band of followers, however I would be surprised if after the end of this competition that we will have an international winner. I hope I'm wrong. I do not want to sound like a sore loser, however if you've ever tried to purchase something from Airfix directly, you will see that the price of postage is many times that of other retailers from the UK. Overall, I think that the price of postage from the UK is very good, however Airfix seem to miss the point here. I would dearly love to become an Airfix member so that I could purchase their Military Vehicles set, however I will not be forced to pay for postage that is completely over the top. Anyway - I, like most am eagerly awaiting Airfix's range of 2013 kits. A new tool Chipmunk must be in there somewhere? Cheers Dave. -

All, Is it just me, or has Airfix made a slight error with todays question? I'm not a space expert however I would say the the Skylab answer should be Saturn V. Of the 3 options available you can choose between Saturn 1, XI or VI? Anyway - I doubt I'll win, It seems Airfix are only prepared to pay postage for UK customers only. I would also be happy to join the airfix club, however the postage cost is astronomical (shame really). I always buy my new Airfix kits from Hattons of Liverpool. Non UK customers do not pay VAT and they charge next to nothing for postage. I can highly recommend them to anyone who lives outside Europe. I have often received my kits inside a week from ordering and I live in Australia. Cheers and good luck to all. Personally I think the pic of th Lanc II is an error, however we will see a merlin engined one (or two perhaps). Dave. -
How about both 1/72 & 1/48 - it's win/win for everyone then. Good to hear about the 109 improvements. Wonder if they are prepared to send a new kit for everyone that commented (complained) on their website. Did they also provide a decal guide for the scencil placement. I mentioned this to Airfix, only to get a cut-out of the back of the box!! Ah well - at least they replied back. Cheers.. Dave.

What are Airfix likely to give us next year?
Rabbit Leader replied to Rev.Light's topic in Aircraft WWII
Phil, I probably speak for many, however I truly hope that there is a small ounce of truth in your Airfix predictions, rather than a mere stab in the dark (although they are very convincing?). I suppose Telford is just around the corner, so if we do not get any major announcements, then we are probably going to be less likely to think that a 1/48 Hunter 6 & Meteor 8 are going to appear under the Airfix label for 2013. I for one, would rather see an earlier Hunter mark without sawtooth wing, however hopefully we may get a conversion set from someone else? Are you in any position to advise us where you received this information - besides the predictable " Reliable Source"? I for one are truly hopeful that you are right - at least you have made many British aircraft fans eager with anticipation. I can't stop thinking about it...... Cheers and kind regards..... Dave. -
Hasegawa 1/48 Messerschmitt BF 109F4 Trop
Rabbit Leader replied to SUNDON's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Yer - I concur with all above. You've done a grand job of this 109. There's something about this plain scheme that really suits this aircraft. 10/10 from me. Weathering looks spot on. Cheers.. Dave. -
That is the best TSR I've ever seen. Probably looks even better than the real one at Duxford. Cheers.. Dave

1/48 - 18" Sky Code Letters & Numbers?
Rabbit Leader replied to Rabbit Leader's topic in Aircraft WWII
Many thanks to all respondents. I completely forgot about Fantasy Printshop. Last time I ordered decals from there, it took a while to explain to the wife that the credit card statement was charged to appease my aircraft modelling hobby, rather said some other strange " Fantasy " subject. She just gave me one of those looks and huffed off - as they do. I'll put in my order shortly. Best regards. .. Dave. -
Can anyone recommend where I can buy some good quality 1/48 - 18" code & number decals. I would like to create the combination A6:E (Meteor F.3), however cannot seem to find a set which has both numbers and letters. Can someone also confirm if 1/72 - 30" would equate to 1/48 - 18"? If so then a 1/72 - 30" recommendation would also work. Cheers and regards, Dave.

That's really funny - I just love this line.... I think my two are on the fringe.

1/48 Classic Airframes DH103 Hornet
Rabbit Leader replied to SimonL's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Simon, Doesn't look like there was much wrong with your first attempt, however the RAAF version looks a treat. Now you need to convert a Tamiya Lancaster into a RAAF Saddle tank aircraft - Roll on Operation Zipper 1946.. The De Havilland Hornet is my all time favourite aircraft and hopefully will be the subject of some main line manufacturers in the near future. Cheers.. Dave.
