All, Quick question with hopefully a quick answer. What would be the best colours to paint the w-well colours & internal u/c doors of a per-war black & white under-surfaced Spitfire. There are a couple of old photos around which suggest that the doors at least where painted in corresponding black & white, including wheel hubs. (Ref. Airfix Classic aircraft No. 1 Spitfire - pages 24 & 25). Any other suggestions or reference referrals would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers.... Dave.

Airfix 2013, some interesting new releases!
Rabbit Leader replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
I was hoping to swindle my little kiddies into getting their hard working dad a nice big Javelin for Father's Day, however it appears that this schedule is already running approx 2 months late. I just might have to settle on a Harrier Gr.1, which is probably a little closer to the amount of money that "Mum" will give them to spend on me anyway? I don't suppose that bearded man with the sack full of toys is also a britmodeller member?? If so PM me and I'll pass on my home address. Thanks. On the other hand I would rather wait a couple of months, then have Airfix release their new kits with flaws or quality control issues. Cheers .. Dave. -
Spitfire wing assembly - your thoughts / advice?
Rabbit Leader replied to Rabbit Leader's topic in Aircraft WWI
Yeh - I Accedently posted this thread in the wrong era.? Thanks for the feedback. I also think things can go wrong should you attempt to build the "wrong way around". Just interested in everyone's thoughts. Cheers.. Dave. -
Seeing we are on the subject of old stuff - I'll trade you one Airfix paint for one tube of Britfix - perfect condition?? Just kidding

Cross Dressing Spitfire
Rabbit Leader replied to Martyn C's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Now this I like very much. Makes a welcome change to PRU Blue. Top marks for even thinking about this subject and concur with the others about weathering. Well done... Cheers.. Dave. -
Fellow Spitfire modellers, The Spit in all it's glorious forms is probably a kit that we have all build at least once. I for one have built many in the past, and have many still boxed up awaiting assembly. Not sure if this has been discussed previously, however I am asking a general question " what is the best way to assembly Spitfire wings ". Most modern-ish kits seem to offer the wings in three parts. Port upper wing, Starboard upper wing and one continuous lower wing part. All kit instructions guide you to cement the wing assembly first, then attach this to the completed fuselage. Is it just me? Each time I have done this, I am left with a nasty gap to fill between the wing-body joint. To eliminate this, I am tempted to attach the upper wings to the fuse first ( with appropriate dihedral ) then attach the lower wing later. I am hoping that this will reduce the wing-body upper wing clean up? So I suppose I'm asking you all which process would you take and has anyone attempted the latter technique? Probably should add that I mainly build 1/72, however I have even tried Tamiya's 1/48 kits and seemed to have got this wrong as well - pretty bad hey! Cheers and looking forward to some response. .. Dave

Spitfire LF Mk.IXc, 1/48 Eduard
Rabbit Leader replied to Surveyor's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
That does look rather nice - I wasn't going to add one of these to my collection (wanted to wait for the Early IX), however those pics do make it tempting all the same. Cheers and thanks for the photos.. Dave. -
Tony, any chance you could enlighten us with some inside information about your new book? How about a list of chapters for a start. Always had a keen interest with the air war over Malta, so can happily say that I will purchase a copy. Cheers .. Dave.

Al, many thanks for submitting the kit decal choices. I duly ordered my copy from Hattons after I got the green light above. Cheers once again and good luck with your build.. Dave.

Dear Wez, The other day, I just so happened to pop into my local hobby store and flicked through the 2013 Airfix catalogue. If I remember correctly it did see that the Big Jav will come with decals for 64, 228 OCU & No. 3 Squadrons. I'm not sure if 3 squadron received FAW.9 / 9R's however I do believe that 5 squadron inherited some from another unit - this may be a misprint?? . I don't think we should worry either way as I'm sure those nice lads at Xtradecal will supply whatever unit your looking for. I did not know about the extended L/E's nor the Vortex Generators.. you really do learn something from the website everyday. Cheers .. Dave.

Rob, Many thanks for the confirmation. Might just have to put my order in then. Cheers Dave.

Airfix Me109E in British Markings
Rabbit Leader replied to Teenmodeller's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Teenmodeller, keep going young man, at least you still have plenty of time on your side. Before you know it you'll be building like the pros. Most of us on here have been building kits as long as we can remember. One thing that I can say is that the older you get, the harder it is to find the time to sit down and enjoy this hobby. Beware of nasty distractions like women, drink, marriage, mortgages and the odd kid or two. Enjoy the freedom of youth whilst you've got it. Cheers .. Dave. -
Any chance of adding a photograph of the complete decal sheet? Just trying to work out if both 72 & 207 Sqd decals are included. It appears this may be the case by viewing the caption of the decal choice on the top right hand corner. Cheers .. Dave

What a lovely pair of trainers. I have the same idea of modelling these myself. Cheers.. Dave

Looking great. I have the same decal sheet, however unable to find the Hasegawa kit to apply these too. Keep the photos coming.... Cheers.. Dave.

Me-109E3 "Come on Girl", in romanian colors
Rabbit Leader replied to florin13's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Have always liked that spalsh of yellow with the Romanian schemes. Takes me back to the old Matchbox 1/72 decal sheet. Just love the underside shot with excellent weathering. You are on a winner with this model. Well Done & Cheers .. Dave -
The F111 that never, but nearly was
Rabbit Leader replied to Mr T's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Martin, Congratulations on a supurb build. Of all the what-if F-111K's i've seen on the net' this must be one of the most accurate (if you can actually say that about a what-if aircraft). I'm sure many others will agree. Cheers .. Dave -
Thanks for the link to the sprue photo's. First impressions are pretty positive, although it's a shame that the radial cowls are split in two. That's another 8 seam lines to clean up. Oh well - probably should'nt complaint it's a Mk.11 Lanc for heavens sake - who else is gonna come out with one of these beauties.. Cheers .. Dave

All NMF buffs, OK, I have to come clean here. I'm pretty sure I've ruined my little Airfix Mustang by using one of Testors Buffable lacquers (Stainless Steel). It just looks way too dark to me. I've buffed it, coated it with clear, however I'm not happy with it. Question. Can I spray a coat of Alclad Aluminium White over the clear finish? Not sure what the result will be. I read that Alclad likes a good primer, so was wondering if the hard clear finish would take it or not. Hopefully someone has tried it and has the answer. Cheers .. Dave.

Peter, Thanks for your reply.. Must get me some of that Alclad stuff.. Cheers and I'd go the Mitchell as well. Dave.

Pete, Welcome and as others have commented - Great build. Can you tell me what Alclad you used as the base NMF colour, was it the Aluminium White?. Must say that looks like the perfect shade for 1/72. Some other "Silvers" seem to be a tad dark. Cheers. Dave.
