Excuse my ignorance, however the AV-8A series of Harriers can't be that difficult to convert from a GR.1 base kit?
We just need Hannants to come out with another Harrier decal sheet and add that long antenna thingy on top of the fuse.
Cheers.. Dave

"So Airfix don't have a homegrown Wellington kit at the moment as the B.III tool is thought to be worn out."
Thank God for that.. !!
Perhaps we might get a Merlin engined Welly, who would have thought that we'd get a Hecules engined Lanc!
Cheers.. Dave

Just looked at Italeri's website an saw their rendition of three Maltese based Spitfires.
Although one cannot be sure what is "correct", these options look somewhat really odd to me?
Any thoughts?

When do we hear about 2014 releases?
Last year it was 19 December. I waited all day (due to Oz timezone) and went to bed one happy chappy. Lets hope this year ends as well as the last one.

Surely some retooled RAF Bombers to compliment their soon to be released Bomber Supply Set.
Blenheims are a must, closely followed by a new tooled Whitley and Hampden.
I doubt whether they would bother with a new Stirling. Lets hope Italeri get this right!!
For something a little more exotic - how about the full family of Hawker two seat per-war aircraft.
Hart, Hind, Demon, Audax etc...

No Jerry.. do not fight it. let your wallet do the talking - remember you work hard, are good to your wife and kids, do not smoke nor drink... go on - you deserve it.
Plus the future box art of this set shows a B.II on it, so you just have to get one.

If I recall correctly this kit's cockpit is wide enough to be accurate for 1/32 scale not 1/48th..
A recent review I read compared the fuselage of this kit with one from Hasegawa. The Hasegawa canopy fell straight through the Hobby Boss cockpit opening with plenty of room to spare. Once again, this is such a shame as the moulding is very nice with the added bonus of folding wings. You just have to look at the clear parts above to see that something is not quite right. At first glance it would appear that they give you the bomb aimers glazing for an early Halifax rather than the Hellcat's windscreen? Unfortunatey anyone wanting a half accurate Hellcat would be best to steer well clear of this kit. Although lacking folding wings, the Eduard option is the way to go.
Once again - another lost Trumpy-boss opportunity... Cheers Dave.

Richard,
Many thanks for posting what are I think the first "published" images of this new box art.
I for one would love to see more of the new images so please - PLEASE - post whatever you can.
I truly believe that Airfix are on a real winner here. They are producing excellent kits with great decals all housed inside a very attractive package. Even better still, they are offering these for sale at very affordable prices.
I can honestly say that I am certainly doing my bit at keeping this Airfix dream run going by buying and promoting many of these new kits. I have even got my 7 year old daughter inspired to join the hobby.. Although she seems to be rather more interested in planes with black crosses rather than red white and blue roundels??
Once again.. Many thanks and keep them coming..
Cheers... Dave

The actual boxart is pretty cool too;

Where in the world did you find this box art image.. At the start of this year, this was one Airfix new tool that I was not going to purchase, however after seeing the sprue shots and box art I'm finding it very difficult not to add this to the list?.
Do you have any other future box art designs for the Fw190 series 2 kit or dare I say it .... The big Jav?
Cheers.. Dave.

Check the ground carefully, for example just below the left radiator, IMO it's a colorized photo albeit it was cleverly done
For a minute there I thought we were on a real gold mine, however I have to agree with occa - this does look like a 1944 version of Photoshop.. Pretty impressive all the same.. Although you can never be certain, I would think that a White tail would have also been applied.
Cheers.. Dave.

I'd give one of my two children away if I could model like that.... Possibly both of them come to think of it!
That Spit has to be one of the best going around.. Congratulations on a top build.
Cheers.. Dave.

Definitely the ex-Italeri: Airfix customer relations told me so. Whereas the forthcoming Italeri Dakota will be the ex-Esci kit.
Had no idea that the Esci and Italeri kits were different. Thanks for the info.. strange that Italeri are not releasing their own product. I suspect the Esci one must have been better.
Cheers.. Dave.

All,
Just received this email from those nice people at Hattons to advise that the Airfix C-47 Skytrain (DC-3) is now available.
I believe this may be a re-issue of the Italeri (possibly Esci) kit from many many years ago - although not 100% sure.
Hopefully it is not their original mould from the 60's with no dihedral.
Does anyone know what decals choices are on offer? - I suspect some type of RAF scheme and perhaps a US Berlin Airlift option as well.
"Hello
This is an automatically generated email to tell you that Airfix A07005 Douglas C-47 Skytrain transporter is now in stock and ready to purchase at http://www.ehattons.com/StockDetail.aspx?SID=60322 for £17.10."Cheers.. Dave.

Maybe not, given that the old 109E came out in a nice shiny new box with new artwork and then came out as a new tool a year later. Perhaps they're tryiong to get a few quid out of the older moulds before bringing out a new kit? Either that or it's a spoiler for the Hasegawa one?
Good Point.. forgot all about that one.. I know its early days, however does anyone know if this kit has a new decal sheet printed by Cartograf. If I recall - this was quite a good kit in its day and i'm sure it has been eclipsed by the Tamiya 1/72 kit, however as the Mossie was quite a smooth looking machine - this old tool may just still hold up quite well these days.
Cheers.. Dave.
-
Nice artwork, however I suppose we can all strike out a new tool Mossie for 2014. Hopefully Airfix may have decided to offer us one of the other great British twins - like a New tool Beaufighter or (and) Blenheim perhaps???
Cheers.. Dave.

Does anyone know what the kit options are going to be?
Dear BlackBart,
From glancing through the 2013 Catalogue at my LHS, I believe the kit options are 64, 228 OCU and what what listed as 3 Squadron? (However by my research No. 3 Sqd only used the FAW.4 variant). Perhaps its a typo for No. 5 Squadron. One thing for sure, you can bet that like all modern Airfix kits - the decal sheet will be fantastic. Bet you'd never thought anyone would have said that a few years ago !!
Cheers.. Dave.

Mk7? Do Hannants know of someone doing aftermarket rear ends? I hope they decide to do the decals in 1/72 scale too, would solve a couple of problems for me anyway.
Duncan B
Perhaps Airfix is going to produce a conversion set all on their own - ala Valiant PR / Tanker??
I'm sure it will sell..
Cheers.. Dave.
-
All,
Just noticed that Hannants have listed 2 sheets of Xtradecal 1/48 Javelin decals as "Future releases".
See links http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X48125 & http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X48126
Looks like options for No's 5, 6(?), 23, 25, 29, 33, 60, 64, & 85 Squadrons. Not sure what the No. 6 Sqd option is.. thought they were flying Venoms & Canberras in the Desert somewhere.. Could be a slight typo.
All we need now is the kit..
Cheers.. Dave.

IIRC we used 99 to touch up the odd mark here and there on the yellow gnat at Delta Jets. It was an almost perfect match
All,
Thanks for the feedback regarding my query.. As I use Matt paints, then apply a Gloss varnish (if required) I truly forgot about Humbrol's Yellow #69..
.... however I do find Andy Woods comments above quite interesting...
There were a few discussions regarding the yellow used last year when the kit came out.....I was lucky enough to be in possession of a small paint chip from a Red Arrows Gnat, some while ago (thanks to Dennis 'Sloegin57' who kindly lent it to me.).
Dennis posted pic's of that chip on here (they're not on line now). Under the red was a patch of yellow - from an earlier existence - and I seem to recall that it was indeed an excellent match for good old '69 - which surprised me, as I had heard references to the aircraft bring finished in Lemon yellow......
I may have some pic's of that chip somewhere - If I can find it I'll post it up here...
Bill Clark's comments above are also interesting.. would love to see that paint samples if you can dig them up..
Cheers and many thanks.. Dave.

"Rocket rails and stone guards will be available seperately (£2.50 for a pair of stone guards and £3.00 for a set of Mk.3 rails, but are not listed on my website yet)."
Colin,
GBP3.00 for the Mk. 3 Rocket Rails sounds like a good deal.. Please let us all know when these are available to order.
Might just have to put a couple of these aside on my next Freightdog order.
Cheers .. and many thanks Dave.

Just wondering if anyone has seen the decal sheet for the new Airfix Yellowjacks Gnat.
Do they provide serial options for all 5 a/c or just the one. If only one - which one?
As side from that, I would also be interested in what Humbrol paint option has been called out - 24 Trainer Yellow or 99 Lemon Yellow.. By my tiring eyes it looks more like a Lemon shade to me..
Cheers.. Dave.

Gazza,
Looks great to me. I think Arfix have really captured the look of the XIX very well and your subtle weathering brings this out nicely. You may receive a few comments about your choice of using 3 spoke wheel hubs on this actual aircraft, as I have read that early production XIX's may have still used the 4 spokers. To be honest, I prefer the 3 spokes and actually used this on m 1/72 bird. One can never be too sure and at the end of the day.. It's what you like anyway. Congratulations on a great build.
Cheers.. Dave.

I'm surprised by the negative tone of the postings attracted by my exhaust comments. Isn't building model aeroplanes supposed to be a hobby, supposed to be fun?
I suppose your comments that the Airfix kit is "wrong" and "check your photographs" can be taken by some as being a little direct. None of us were there (although in a strange way most of us probably wish we were), so no one will actually know for sure the exact details about any WW2 subject. If anything may I suggest that if you ask questions or make statements always come across that there is always some element of doubt in your understanding. You will be surprised how quickly others will correct you.
Please do not take my comments as condescending, continue to enjoy the hobby and welcome to Britmodeller.
Cheers.. Dave.

OK - let's now move on to Rocket Rails.
The references I have (many by our expert Chris Thomas) show a difference in Rocket Rails from Mk. 1 (as supplied by Airfix) to Mk. 3 as the war progressed. Are there any dates / time period when this occurred? Did certain squadrons convert at a staggered period? Would it be accurate to depict a 1945 Typhoon with Upper C1 roundels with Mk. 1 rocket rails? Am I being too pedantic?? .
Hopefully someone may be a position to shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.
Cheers.. Dave
