  1. This kit was always going to be one that was just a little on the "too big" side, however I had a feeling that once the Boxart was released, I'd probably change my mind?. mmm may just need to purchase a bigger cabinet then.

How I'd wish Airfix would downscale this (and the Vixen) to 72nd scale..

    Cheers.. Dave.

  2. Fancy that !

The only test match that we seemed to be heading for a win and............The good old English Summer comes out to spoil the party???

I think our record is pretty good at the Oval.. bar the 1938 "Hutton" test..

    Cheers.. Dave.

  3. Ordered mine direct from Airfix yesterday.Arrived in post this morning. That is impressive.

Oh how I wish I lived in the UK, rather than all the way Down Under.

    Today's Brisbane Winter Weather Report..

Sunny, mild breeze - top of 25 degrees.. Naaa... Forget it !!

  4. If I recall correctly, I remember reading an artical in the back of one of the Airfix Modelworld magazines which suggested that Airfix take years to pre-plan their model projects.

It went on to say that they already know (back in 2012) what is planned for the 2014 - 2017 period. Hopefully there's a Beaufighter family in there somewhere?

I'm really looking forward to this years version of the advent calender - roll on December.

Although I'm on the Beaufighter trail, I would much rather a Blenheim, Battle and Whitley to pop out first.

    Cheers.. Dave.

  5. Thanks for the review!

Does the kit come with both enginestyles and both exhaust styles?

    2qc1l50.jpg

Just the "Standard" as shown in the lower diagram. Best to check as many photos as possible, so that you depict the correct intakes / exhaust for your aircraft. I believe some of the great options shown in the new Xtradecal sheet may use the "early" style. At least the 61 squadron one does. Ref. Lancaster Mk.II Profile Publications #235 - page 6.

    Cheers... Dave

  6. Hi, Rabbit Leader,

No, Testors MM are not the best match nowadays. Try Xtracolor.

    Fernando

Thanks Fernando, I'm not sure if the xtracolour range is available in Australia, however would be willing to order from overseas to get the best colours. Do they come as Matt paints? I have heard that they usually come in a satin, glossy shade.

    Cheers Dave.

  7. Ed, that's a great comparison chart. Is it just me or do the Testor Model Master series appear to be the best matches here?

This may be because they are closest to the actual samples - not sure. I'd be happy (and actually are happy) with the MM range. I did buy the "equivalent" Vallejo Modelair range, and boy was I bitterly disappointed with the results. Paint goes on very well and is easy to use, however are no match to any of the proper RLM shades whatsoever.

Looking forward to the new Humbrol range all the same.

    Cheers.. Dave

  8. Thanks Smiffy, great photos.

The fifth photo in this collection does appear to show these stays at the 3 and 6 o'clock positions (#2 engine / inboard LH wing). I appreciate that this could be parallax error, however the angle of the prop is a fairly good guide. I do hope Airfix got this correct, they deserve every praise for offering us this kit.

    Cheers.. Dave.

  9. Just received my Bomber Re-Supply set from Hattons of Liverpool. Great price and postage.

Surely for 2014, Airfix must be thinking of a Cookie armed Mosquito in 1/72. Hopefully with the option for both short and long nacelled Merlins.Always loved those photos of mossies being armed with that huge bomb load.

That's along with the Beaufighter (of course) and a big series 3/4 box Hawker Hart kit with all the bits to make the whole family.. Possibly a two in one box? Part of the Shuttleworth collection perhaps..

    Cheers.. Dave.

  10. Anything with a pair of big Bristols up front is going to go down well with me.

    Cheers,

    Bill.

Can you imagine someone else reading this forum and having no clue what a Blenheim or Beaufighter was?

What would be their impression of Bill's quote above!!

I'll take three of them all the same.. Cheers Dave

  11. Totally agree Steve.. Dave here (aka Rabbit Leader).. Along with Tora Tora Tora - BoB must be one of the best pictures ever made for the big screen.. Perhaps we could get together around your "Chully Bun" one day and recite every word over an ale or three.. Perhaps do some terrible modelling at the same time!

Cheers.. Your pal from across the ditch..

  12. I'm sure it's based on their new tooled Ju88 A4 which is just a delight. Many parts go into building the front fuse / cockpit area, however this may be simplified in the C version. I have not seen any decent pics of this, however I'm sure if its this version your after, then this will probably be the best kit in 1/72 scale. Hopefully someone else will comment and prove me correct.

    Chees.. Dave.

  13. Yes but they are current, being deployed in Afganistan so in the public consciousness.

Oh yes a Beaufighter please in I/II/VI/X.

    Trevor

You forgot XXI for us Aussie modellers down here.. Although I would like to see additional parts for an Operation Firedog Beau.. Then followed by a Brigand?..

    Cheers.. Dave

  14. I like to chip in with a slight variation to the Beaufighter theme - how about a Beaufort ?? Would also gladly take a Brigand as well.

I also believe that the current UK airshow theme seems like real possibilities after the Vampire and Gladiator boxings of this year, so perhaps we should really concentrate here.

Whatever it/they will be - we will buy them all no doubt.

    Cheers.. Dave.

  15. Starfighter,

Give the guys at UML hobbies in Hong Kong a go. You can google search them and/or communicate with them via Facebook. I believe they are connected to the Dragon model group in a big way. This includes Cyberhobby etc.

    You never know your luck.

    Cheers.. Dave.

  16. Thanks Seahawk,

Although I already have two of the standard series 2 boxed kits, I was still tempted to purchase this starter set for the decals.

I am glad that you have informed us that the decal sheet is not much chop. I really cannot understand why Airfix do this as they would surely sell more kits if we received full stencils with all their kits. If these kits are targeted at the younger market then let them choose how many decals they wish to apply. I believe that the starter set Vampire came with a full set of stencils, however am not 100% sure.

The starter set Gnat had a fairly basic decal sheet, however as the real a/c seemed fairly clean I have accepted this. On the other hand it would have been nice to have all five serials included.

Hopefully Airfix will read this and rethink their decal sheet policy.

    Cheers.. Dave.
