Eduard 1/48 F6f-3 Hellcat
Rabbit Leader replied to Ticketec's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Well done Boris... Having seen this "in the flesh" I must say it really is a job well done.. Congrats, good luck this weekend and you still owe me a twenty for that AB needle and tip!! No rush.. Cheers.. Dave. -
Doubt they know what a Javelin is?
-
Although, I'm excited about the 1/48 Javelin, I must agree with Fea that it's probably a liitle too big for my slowly growing collection. I am still not sure if I will ever get one of these, however would have certainly pre-ordered one (or two) had it been released in 1/72 scale. Then again, perhaps there is still some hope as the 48 scale Lightning has been round for a few years and will soon be joined by its younger 72nd scale brother. The Spitfire XIX is also available in both scales. Maybe there are plans for smaller Javelins & Sea Vixens in 2014-15. Cheers .. Dave.

Not sure if this helps, however have you thought about brush painting your Matt Varnsh? Personally I spray mine as well, however for the risk of remasking and breaking bits and pieces on the way, perhaps a steady hand might do the trick. Just a thought. Vallejos Matt Varnish is not a bad product. Probably wont dull it down enough, but just finish it off and start another.. Cheers. Dave.

With the new Red Arrows Hawk boxing A02005A (RAF roundel on corner of box) the panel lines are a lot crisper and not as soft as the previous release. Additional changes are a one piece canopy and the wing fences are pre-moulded with the wing. I'm not sure if the latter two are enhancements, however the panel lines were definitely a big improvement. I feel the Mk.1 Spitfire will now look out of place, if the Hurricane is as good as Tony suggests. Cheers.. Dave

So besides another unusable decal sheet with incorrect serial font, what else is different? It appears that their FB.9 was really a poor rendition of an FB.5 anyway!! My money's staying in my wallet.. Cheers.. Dave.
-
Sounds like the Hurricane is going to be another winner. It's a shame that the Spitfire 1 was released when Airfix was obviously experimenting with Panel Line depths. Perhaps they could revisit this mould and tidy it up a little, similar to the new boxing of the Hawk T.1 - A02005A.. Good opportunity to add some nice pre Munich Crisis 19 sqd decals as well.. Hey they could even box the Hurricane & Spit together - Just a thought.! Cheers. Dave.

Believe latest estimate is late November 2013. Most of Airfix's new releases have slipped a month or two from previous predictions, however there's plenty of new stuff coming out to keep our work benches busy.. I am eagerly awaiting this as well, however in about 26 more sleeps the big Jav should be available.. Wow. Cheers.. Dave.

Lindsay, PM sent about trying Hattons of Liverpool for all new Airfix kits.. Great service. Cheers.. Dave.
-
This kit was always going to be one that was just a little on the "too big" side, however I had a feeling that once the Boxart was released, I'd probably change my mind?. mmm may just need to purchase a bigger cabinet then. How I'd wish Airfix would downscale this (and the Vixen) to 72nd scale.. Cheers.. Dave.

All, Just searching my favourite websites and was pleasantly surprised to spot Airfix's new 1/72 Fabric wing Hurricane Box art.. Looks like another winner... Cannot wait for this one. Cheers .. Dave http://www.airfix.com/shop/new-for-2013/aircraft/a02067-hawker-hurricane-mki-early-172/

It's not SWMBO trying to give you a subtle hint!! .. Cheers .. Dave

Fancy that ! The only test match that we seemed to be heading for a win and............The good old English Summer comes out to spoil the party??? I think our record is pretty good at the Oval.. bar the 1938 "Hutton" test.. Cheers.. Dave.

Oh how I wish I lived in the UK, rather than all the way Down Under. Today's Brisbane Winter Weather Report.. Sunny, mild breeze - top of 25 degrees.. Naaa... Forget it !!

Well Done - nice to see some good ol' Aussie aircraft every now and again.. Mr. Airfix - Where's my new tool Beaufighter ?? Cheers.. Dave.
-
If I recall correctly, I remember reading an artical in the back of one of the Airfix Modelworld magazines which suggested that Airfix take years to pre-plan their model projects. It went on to say that they already know (back in 2012) what is planned for the 2014 - 2017 period. Hopefully there's a Beaufighter family in there somewhere? I'm really looking forward to this years version of the advent calender - roll on December. Although I'm on the Beaufighter trail, I would much rather a Blenheim, Battle and Whitley to pop out first. Cheers.. Dave.
-
Just the "Standard" as shown in the lower diagram. Best to check as many photos as possible, so that you depict the correct intakes / exhaust for your aircraft. I believe some of the great options shown in the new Xtradecal sheet may use the "early" style. At least the 61 squadron one does. Ref. Lancaster Mk.II Profile Publications #235 - page 6. Cheers... WWII RAF Bomber Re-supply Set - 1:72 Airfix
Rabbit Leader replied to woody37's topic in Aftermarket (updates/conversions)
Thanks for the great review Woody, I have this and the new Lancaster and like most are very pleased with what's on offer. I only hope that this leads Airfix down the path of producing a complete range of RAF Bomber Command aircraft. Surely that Cookie needs a decent Mosquito for 2014?. Highly recommend - a must have.. Cheers.. Dave. -
Thanks Fernando, I'm not sure if the xtracolour range is available in Australia, however would be willing to order from overseas to get the best colours. Do they come as Matt paints? I have heard that they usually come in a satin, glossy shade. Cheers Dave.
-
Ed, that's a great comparison chart. Is it just me or do the Testor Model Master series appear to be the best matches here? This may be because they are closest to the actual samples - not sure. I'd be happy (and actually are happy) with the MM range. I did buy the "equivalent" Vallejo Modelair range, and boy was I bitterly disappointed with the results. Paint goes on very well and is easy to use, however are no match to any of the proper RLM shades whatsoever. Looking forward to the new Humbrol range all the same. Cheers.. Dave
-
Thanks Smiffy, great photos. The fifth photo in this collection does appear to show these stays at the 3 and 6 o'clock positions (#2 engine / inboard LH wing). I appreciate that this could be parallax error, however the angle of the prop is a fairly good guide. I do hope Airfix got this correct, they deserve every praise for offering us this kit. Cheers.. Dave.

Just received my Bomber Re-Supply set from Hattons of Liverpool. Great price and postage. Surely for 2014, Airfix must be thinking of a Cookie armed Mosquito in 1/72. Hopefully with the option for both short and long nacelled Merlins.Always loved those photos of mossies being armed with that huge bomb load. That's along with the Beaufighter (of course) and a big series 3/4 box Hawker Hart kit with all the bits to make the whole family.. Possibly a two in one box? Part of the Shuttleworth collection perhaps.. Cheers.. Dave.

Rabbit Leader replied to Hello Kitty's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
As a former TAA/Australian now Qantas employee, this is a very inspirational build. Congratulations, you have captured the look beautifully.. Look forward to seeing more... Cheers.. Dave.
