Rabbit Leader replied to tonyot's topic in Aircraft WWII
Tony, Thanks for the PM about this book... I've just paid off my Credit card however this could be a nice way to reward myself for a job well done !!. I wish you every success with the future sales of this book. Cheers .. Dave. -
Converting B-57 to EE Canberra... How to do it?
Rabbit Leader replied to TME3's topic in Aircraft Cold War
John, that's great news.. What's the best way to order one for someone who lives outside the UK.. (Australia to be exact).. Sounds like this has a lot more potential then either the Italeri or Airfix offerings.. Cheers.. Dave. -
airfix 1/72 lightning "Sprue". yeovilton ?
Rabbit Leader replied to iain.. ipms north somerset's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Phew.. For a minute there Rob, I thought you were after 287 Lightnings (5+11+29+56+74+111+1 - practice).. Alright.. I get it - there squadrons... ???? Only my thoughts, however I would say that the earlier small tank / pointy tail versions will not appear in 2014, however we may get the F.6.. Dependant on sales, these early versions will appear in 2015.. Cheers.. Dave. -
airfix 1/72 lightning "Sprue". yeovilton ?
Rabbit Leader replied to iain.. ipms north somerset's topic in Aircraft Cold War
I believe the correct spelling is "Sprue". Your version (at first sight) seems to conjure up images of a yellow liquid, fused with carrots. .. All in jest of course.. Dave -
Converting B-57 to EE Canberra... How to do it?
Rabbit Leader replied to TME3's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Sorry chaps - just pure speculation on my part as we all know that these Canberra's would sell like sliced bread. I'm in a similar quandary about what to build next. I'm planning on hacking into a pair of Macthbox NF Meteors however these would be relegated to the back shelf if Airfix decide to announce a range of Meteors for 2014. Just like my Airfix Canberra lies dormant waiting for Italeri (probably never) or Airfix (hopefully soon) to announce a new tool B.2 / B.6 version. Perhaps I should just get on with all my new Red boxes that I have managed to accumulate of the last few years. There's plenty of good stuff in that. Cheers and may our dreams come true. Dave. -
Matchbox 1/72 Corsair II A-7
Rabbit Leader replied to stefanwest's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
This was the first kit I remember building all on my own, however I don't recall it ending up looking this good? I think I've still got a few bombs buried somewhere in my spare box.. I like it.. Thanks for the memories. Cheers .. Dave. -
1/72 - de Havilland DH.112 Venom NF.3 by Dragon - released
Rabbit Leader replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
OK - I'm no Venom expert, however I do not believe that the Swedes operated the NF.3 variant, rather the NF.51 which was the export version of the NF.2a. The radar nose contours are noticeably different. The Dragon model link in the above post also mentions that this version of the venom featured Ejector seats? Wasn't this only a feature on the later mark of Sea Venoms. Please - I hope that I am wrong, however if I am proven to be correct then this is another case of poor modelling research. C'mon - should these errors really be made in this day and age.. I know we are only looking at test shots and possible proposed Boxart, however if proven to be correct, then we have yet another case of schoolboy R & D.. Cheers.. (How hard can it be) Dave -
Like most people here, I can only talk about my experiences, however the Micro sol/set products are comparable with Humbrol Clear. I'll be honest, I've had a few decals do their weird shriveled up thing with a good dose of Microsol, however the trick here is never panic... Let the decal dry and then apply another coat of Clear. As always, a test piece will allow you to test your best method. Humbrol Clear - I love the stuff.. Cheers.. Dave.
-
I can recommend Humbrol's new Clear. The initial coat seems to stay flat-ish, however subsequent thin coats produces a nice gloss finish. I have tried both Air Brush & Brush coats and its hard to tell the difference. I have never used anything to thin it down and it washes out easily in tap water. Check the Humbrol YouTube website for a quick viedo. They suggest 20psi and I tend to agree with this setting. Anyway - that's my story, as you live in the UK, for a few quid you ought to give it a try. Cheers.. Dave.

John, Mine arrived (also posted to Australia) about two weeks ago. I'd probably send Roger another email just to see what's happened. I cannot fault his correspondence and courtesy in dealing with my order. Hope all goes well.. Cheers .. Dave.

HK 1/32 Meteor Mk.4 Test Shot Pics!
Rabbit Leader replied to Jennings Heilig's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Sorry Jennings.. It was kinda early down where I live and posted my query before I read your text in full.. The correct wheel hubs are quite easy to miss as the brake discs face the same direction on both wheels - you really need to see a photo of the same a/c from both directions to spot this and know what I'm getting at. If I am correct, these hubs where introduced on the Mk. 8. Anyway - I'm not having a dig at this model. I think it looks terrific and like the others may need to place my two children and cat on eBay if I am to continue with this hobby. I've just received the first two volumes of Cold War Shield, however cannot look at these until Christmas (boo hoo). Purchasing this kit will be very hard to resist.. Cheers.. Dave. -
HK 1/32 Meteor Mk.4 Test Shot Pics!
Rabbit Leader replied to Jennings Heilig's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Looks quite nice, however I have two queries.. Why have removeable engine covers when there is nothing to display? AM bits perhaps.. Are those wheel hubs correct for a IV? I thought this version had the earlier "dare I say" Tempest style hub? Happy to be corrected on both fronts... The one piece underwing and wheel wells look quite nice. Cheers.. Dave. -
If you mean the 1/72 Revell Germany one, which was released in C, G & TF versions then I doubt it. I have several boxings of these and they have finely recessed panel lines. This kit is very similar to the latest Hasegawa offering. Cheers.. Dave.

I'd probably stick to the basic colours - White, Black etc ... In my opinion, although the Model Air series seem to Airbrush quite nicely (some go on better with their Thinner), their colour conversions seem to be a liitle off to me.. Sorry not exactly what you're after, however thought I'd let you know.. Cheers .. Dave.

Douglas A-4C Skyhawk, VA-153, `Blue Tailed Flies`
Rabbit Leader replied to russ c's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Russ, When I die, I'd like to come back as a miniaturised 1/48 scale figure. If you don't mind, I'II also make your Modelling Cabinet my residence of choice. Yet another excellent build.. well done. We are all envious and jealous (in a nice sort of way of course).. Cheers .. Dave -
Converting B-57 to EE Canberra... How to do it?
Rabbit Leader replied to TME3's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Or just wait until the end of December when hopefully our favourite model manufacturer announces their eagerly awaited range of 1/72 Fishbowl Canberra's !! Cheers.. Dave. -
Just got my GR.3 today, packed inside the new Javelin to save on postage - Nice one Hattons.. First thing I noticed was that the Airfix Series 4 box was rather small.. I placed this alongside the GR.1 kit and have just realised that Airfix has provided us with a Series 4 kit in a Series 3 sized box? I don't think I'm complaining and I know that they have included two additional sprues, however this whole package really could have been marketed as a Harrier GR.1 / GR.3 - Series 3 kit all along.. The money saved could have been spent on Colin's replacement fin! Just thought I'd send my useless thoughts through.. Cheers.. Dave.
-
Just got out my 1/32 Matchbox Sea Venom, so yes.. more photos of your 1/1 scale model would be very useful.. By the way, that looks like a Lincoln nose in the background. What are those wings behind it and where is this museum? Cheers.. Dave
-
Nope - their website still shows accepting pre-orders.. Hopefully they will advise us soon? I must admit, I seemed to get the Harrier a little later than most other stockists. I still think they'll come through with the goods soon enough.. Cheers. Dave

Hey Duncan - Your not having an affair with MY WIFE are you ??? I think I've heard that phrase before. Cheers .. Dave (age 10).

I've been toying about the idea of taking part in my first group build and could think of no better aircraft type to start with. Not sure how this all works, however like marriage, I might as well commit to something I know little about.. Count me in and I'll do my best.. Cheers.. Dave

To be honest - painting Yellow tips is the most annoying part of "my" modelling processes. I have always struggled painting the yellow first, then hoping that my masking abilities manage to make a nice even demarkation line of each tip. I just might try the black / white / yellow technique above to see if I fare any better - probably couldn't do much worse I suppose.. Cheers .. Dave.

Phil, Roger needed to organise a few things with PayPal before he could send me my invoice. The postage cost for both books came up to GBP34.00. I was expecting this as I believe at over 400 pages each, these books are quite heavy.. Cheers .. and happy reading / modelling.. Dave.

Just ordered both Volumes this morning after a lengthy email chat with Roger Lindsay that has spanned close to a year. My initial enquiry back then was about the availability (or more to it - lack of) Volume 1, and now heading my way will be both Volumes just in time for Christmas. Although the website just states UK postage, drop Roger a line and he will work out International postage for you. Be prepared - its not cheap, however what's money when golden gems like this come along all too infrequently. The best part of it was that my dear wife (who always struggles to find something that I like for Birthdays & Christmas) was thrilled to bits that I helped her solve this arduous chore. Not sure why, however she just never understands it when I say "I don't care what you get me - as long as its in a box and rattles a bit when I shake it from side to side" Cheers .. Dave.

Is there such a thing as "Scale Gloss"?
Rabbit Leader replied to Rabbit Leader's topic in Aircraft WWII
Actually Humbrol's Clear is quite a new product. I believe I read somewhere here before that it was closely based on the original "Klear" that seems to have disappeared / changed names / changed formulas etc. The Humbrol product is water based and I will most certainly test whatever I choose (still deciding) on a test piece first. Thanks for all your recommendations - there seems to be quite a few options out there, however I believe my original question has been well and truly answered by all above. Thanks you Cheers .. Dave
