Thanks Jabberwocky.. I suppose you paint the base colour first? That being the case how does the yellow take to the darker black? I suppose you would need more than one coat. I've been spraying the yellow first, then masking these off to apply the black, however in 1/72 scale there's not much room for the tape to grip the tip of the prop. Cheers.. And thanks for your and Chadders replies.. Dave

Painting Propeller tips?????? I cannot seem to match any of them - God only knows why I want Airfix to produce a Shackelton next year !! Anyone got any worthwhile tips to help a struggling modeller? Cheers .. Dave

1/24 scale..... What more can Airfix offer ?
Rabbit Leader replied to Radpoe Spitfire's topic in Aircraft WWII
You took the words right out of my mouth.. I'd say a Hawker Hart family with options to make most versions would be a real winner. I am hoping that we will get this in 1/72 next year. I believe the original 1957 (?) Hart still goes for a Kings Ransome on ebay these days. Cheers.. Dave. -
Someone mentioned on here that the undercarraige legs are too long. The main wheels are also a little plain on the detail side of things. I think besides the undercart bits, this is a pretty good effort for the price. Hope this helps.. Dave

re. Does anyone want to know how long this thread will be by June? It will stop on the 18th of December - cause we will have a Tiger Moth, Beaufighter and Shackelton to all talk about... I'm sure it will pick up yet again when June 2014 rolls along. Cheers.. Dave.

Airfix 1/72 Hurricane Mk.I A02067 (new Tool)
Rabbit Leader replied to Hardtarget's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Thanks for posting this... I almost forgot this was also on its way out having been overshadowed by plenty of Typhoon & Lightning talk lately. I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping to see more photos of the kit sprues, decals and possible instruction sheet breakdown. I've already got two on pre-order, however will probably have to wait a few more weeks until I get my hands on them. Cheers .. Dave. -
Too true - How often does the primer show up all those serious faults.. This build has completely smashed that myth.. Looking forward to the completed product.. Cheers.. Dave.

I dare say, did anyone happen to snap any photos of the Tiger Moth sprues? And I wonder if Airfix will be posting any youtube videos about the big Tiff.. Judging by some photos here it appears they may have had a very interesting PowerPoint presentation. I for one would love to see this. Cheers.. Dave

If this Typhoon had hit the market in the eighties doldrums we would all have peed our pants without exception Oh no.. I've just looked down - Woops..

Excellent post Ben. Might have to just purchase this kit for "research purposes" when building my 1/72 kit. Cheers.. Dave

That's just gold... Well done. Didn't know the Ford Focus Zetec's were around in 1979 though.. Cheers.. Dave

Namibian Air Force Chengdu F-7
Rabbit Leader replied to Rizon's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Your wife convinced you??? Where do I buy one of those - I have a PayPal account so can organise Mail order!! Cheers.. And look forward to your progress. Dave. -
Andrew, I'd probably steer away from using a pure Black wash. It's way to stark. I believe they mention this in the video that black was used to give the best effect for the viewing audience, not the actual model. I'd probably go with a grey or even a brownish tinge if your building a Korean Warbird.. Just my thoughts.. Cheers.. Dave

OK - can we finally put this matter to bed now? If you want one - go out and buy it when it comes out If you don't want one - then move on, there's nothing to see here Go and pester the other manufacturers if you want your particular version or scale of this and that!! I recently saw a 1/18 scale Dauntless in my LHS, which shocked the hell out of me, so why are we all complaining about 1/24. I thought Facebook was the forum to crap-on about useless thoughts.. Dave.

1/48 - Gloster Javelin FAW.9(R) by Airfix - just re-released
Rabbit Leader replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
That's not fair.. I usually complain that my wife cannot make a choice - now I know how she feels !! Great post Homebee.. Cheers Dave. -
1/48 Airfix Canberra IAF Target Tug
Rabbit Leader replied to Hypersonic's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Not wishing to offend anyone - however not in my wildest dreams would I have even thought about making an Indian Air Force kit (possibly Mig-21?).. However this Canberra is just fantastic. I love everything about it and will be researching more bright Indian aircraft soon enough. Thanks for whetting the appetite. Dave. -
Was Ally there with his 48 Javelin bits?? How did they look and what marks and / or decal choices are provided? Cheers.. Dave
-
I suppose now we all know why their 1/72 kit looked so good. Seems like the R & D department spent many many hours researching the real thing and talking to Tiffy experts like Chris Thomas. It seems like going BIG is the latest craze at the moment, so lets not scorn Airfix for dipping their toes back into the large scale market (first started back in 1970 with their Spitfire 1 ??). I've got way to many unbuilt kits at the moment, however like the Javelin I'll probably get way too excited and throw my empty wallet around when June 2014 eventually arrives. Cheers .. and well done Airfix - Dave

So what's the BIG Airfix announcement at Telford going to be?
Rabbit Leader replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
OK then, we seem to agree : It's gotta be BIG = 1/24 It's gotta be (nationality) = British It's gotta be linked to an Anniversary = 1914, 1944, What about 1934 ?. A = It's gotta be a new De Havilland Comet DH88 with decal options for Red, Black & Green versions... ...... Although my money's still on the D-Day Typhoon. Cheers.. Dave -

JB - your a champ.. Looks like we're getting a new Tiger Moth.. It better not be the old kit with new decals .. Grrrrrr (that's a bad attempt at a Tiger growl ?).. Cheers .. Dave -

Rabbit Leader replied to Rob P's topic in The Rumourmonger
So the 2014 Calendar is already out then? Any chance someone can jot down what appears on what month. Living in Australia, we either have to wait two months to receive the sea mail version or pay approx 50% more for the air mail version, which probably won't arrive at the newsagents until next week.. Cheers.. Dave .... Can't see Airfix keeping us all in suspense over a new tool Tiger Moth (although I'm rather excited).. It's probably a more modern subject or a really big Beaufighter.. We all want one, however would we buy thus in 1/24th?. -

Trevor... You'd better take another look, or go and find those Spectacles !! Cheers.. Dave -
At least yours have got a bit of colour Dave. :(Steve. You could always ditch that "Silver Fern" version and opt for a proper RAAF one! Saying that, I kinda like the overall yellow one myself, however probably couldn't go past the camo one if I ever did get one. Sounds like I'm talking myself into two.. Cheers.. Dave

Have always liked the Oxford and can still recall having second thoughts of not buying the old Frog / Novo kit when I was a little tacker.. May it be a decent kit and hopefully someone will post some sprue shots shortly. RAAF version for me !! Cheers.. Dave
