  1. What’s with the use of the word ‘Tentative’ for the 1/72 F-35? That seems to imply that Tamiya are not quite sure if this release is happening. Perhaps not the best choice of words perhaps? Anyway, any new 1/72 Tamiya kit has got to be a good thing, although if the Tamiya boxed (Italeri) moulds sells for anywhere between $80-$100 down here, how much will this one cost?

    Cheers.. Dave

  2. With an obvious personal connection to the RAAF’s VIP fleet, it’s great to see you representing yet another of their Dassault ‘Brass movers’ with this Falcon kit. I’ve just clocked up 35 years at Qantas and ‘STILL’ have not build a model from the employer that has paid my wages for all that time! This should be a good one Ray, I’m sure you’ll make a great job of it (or the back-up).

Cheers and best of luck.. Dave

  3. Great to see this big Mirage on here. A kit I’ve often wanted, however have never taken up the opportunity to buy when the situation presented itself. Perhaps I will change that situation after seeing this take shape here.

Cheers and all the best.. Dave

  4. Great to see this kit being built here and I’m sure the choice of final paint scheme doesn't make things easy when you have a great decal sheet like that! I have recently acquired the old Airfix F.1 kit as part of a cheap stash buy and have always been intrigued to know “which (out of all the Classic kits) is the more accurate Mirage F.1 out there” - Airfix, Esci, Heller or Hasegawa? I’m sure the new Special Hobby kits blows them all out of the water, however these classic kits can often be found cheap and to my eye still quite serviceable.

Cheers and best of luck with his build.. Dave

Greetings fellow Bloch / Dassault admirers from a hot and steamy Brisbane, Australia.

Whilst looking at @Sam’s excellent list - Dassault GB Flightline, I checked my stash to see what else I could add to expand this GB’s subject matter. There was an Airfix Super Mystere (quite tempting), Matchbox Mystere IV (sadly missing front canopy windshield), Airfix Mirage F.1 (quite a few already listed) as well as Heller’s Mirage IIIE / V (bound to be the most popular type built).

What we didn’t have is the little Ouragan (Hurricane), so after inspecting the crisp parts of this Heller / Humbrol box I decided this would be my chosen subject for this GB. The kits decals are old, yellowed and typically out of register, but apart from that it’s a neat kit that should hopefully build up quite nicely. I’ve got a lovely French text book with lovely photo’s, however as I don’t have a clue how to read French, I’ll just have to gain inspiration from the photos and numerous profiles. I’m still undecided on a scheme, however an Israeli machine seems to be ticking the boxes at the moment.

This kit has recently been superseded by the newer Valom kit, however I’ve got a soft spot for old school kits and this looks to be a great model from Heller’s prime early 1980’s period. Wish me luck and good luck to all other GB members.

    Cheers.. Dave

  6. Well down Pat. The Airfix Meteor has always been a fun kit to build and you’ve done well with this edition. If you don’t mind me saying, I’d probably knock down the sheen with a Matt or Semi Gloss varnish just to take the shine off those raised rivets. I’m also happy to send you a set of C type underwing roundels to replace those B type that are on there. I’ll PM you soon.

    Cheers and well modelled.. Dave

  7. Although it’s not in the shops as yet, Airfix’s new Starter Set F-35B might be exactly what you are looking for. It will only have 42 parts and promises to be as accurate as their designers want things to be (which is quite high of late). Hopefully it will hit the shops by May this year.

Also as mentioned above, just build for yourself and don’t compare your build to some of the expert builds on here or elsewhere. I don’t know anyone who has started this hobby and produced top results straight away. If you want to be good at anything it takes time, plenty of practise and even after all that you will still try to improve your techniques on the next build after that.

There’s also plenty of helpful short videos on the hobby, which can be extremely helpful. Watch them and mimic those techniques that might help you.

Cheers, Chin up and Solider on.. Dave

Many thanks, Dave - I do appreciate the tips on the engines. That is exactly the sort of thing I'd have missed, and it would have been more than a little frustrating. Cheers!

All good John, I kinda describe it in a little more detail at the top of Page 7 in the WIP thread.

    Cheers.. Dave

  9. Appreciate the FGA.9 / 74 information @YK GOH, that’s fantastic stuff and very detailed. We also thank you for getting in touch with Airfix to advise your findings and suggestions, thus allowing them to produce the best 1/48 Hunter kit currently available. Hopefully a Hunter “Far East” boxing (with Singapore decals) will follow the 2023 FGA.9 / 11 / FR.10 release.

    Cheers.. Dave

  10. Apologies John, just found this thread. Great to see a Beaufort here as they most certainly acquired their fair share of salt whilst operating over the cold and deadly waters up North.

I really loved building this kit and engine issues aside (as eluded above) it’s a well designed and fitting model. I acquired two kits and the image below illustrates what can happen to the engine assemblies if you miss the small tabs and idents around with these parts (Note - the bad ones are on the right). I’ve got a set of P & W engines for this second kit, so all is not lost (I hope!).
