  1. Supposed to be covering an event for work, ended up having a long chat with a Scottish lawyer instead. Professional!

  3. Clearly the people who once consulted the tea leaves as to Soviet intentions are now doing the same for Taylor Swift and the Kardashians.

'The Kardashians' yields some interesting anagrams, including one ironically that references both hair and buttocks...

I know, right? When courting Mrs. P, I once ran ten miles to see her. She was unimpressed.

I blame the Proclaimers for setting unreasonable expectations...

Eight miles is a lot PC - pleased to see you're back running even if I may not understand.

D&D...cor - that'll be 1982 then. RAF basic flying training - in desperate need of a distraction from the misery of nearly getting binned from the course every time we flew - bunch of us sat around in the evenings drinking beer and playing D&D. Not cool. But fun :)

That's crazy talk, Darbs. Not only is the Fw 190 as ugly as a dog's butthole, but the Fw 190D in particular looks like it was built out of spare car parts.

  12. I'm pretty sure when the RAF has to fly their X-Wings against the Death Star, someone will be complaining "we could have had the Harriers still instead of this awful lot."

On the plus side, I did see Carl Vinson and Theodore Roosevelt at their moorings, never seen a CVN in person before. Nice to get a glimpse of them, since I'm paying for them.

  23. It would be nice, no, make that AMAZING, if someone could write a book about the British Army in NWE that didn't obsess so much over how much everything was or wasn't Monty's fault.

Have you not read Prof. Buckley's "Monty's Men"? A well written history that moves on from the now hackneyed view expounded by Hastings, D'Este etc. that the British army was somehow less effective than the Germans or the Americans..

    4. Procopius

      Procopius

Just finished it and was fairly pleased with it, though I am always a little suspicious of anything that seems to confirm my own prejudices. I wish there was more in-depth tactical writing on 21AG after Normandy and aside from Arnhem.

  24. A profoundly frustrating day. The only high point was eating three paczki, which at least ensures I'm liable to die before another day like this.

I would not worry. It has taken years of abuse and thousands of £s to get my body into its current condition. I am not letting it go now. Have you considered fudge doughnuts?
