  1. How is this kit? I''ve heard it's just the Frog kit with some resin, and that it does or does not have raised panel lines. I also understand it doesn't have any stores. Is the former true? Are there aftermarket sets to rectify the latter? Do you need to make your own radar aerials for the wings?

  2. I've been working on this some more, mainly sanding it with my newly purchased flex-i-file and sanding sticks, to try and make it more generally airplane-shaped. A lot of that splendid accurate rivet detail has perished in my efforts, seared away by my efforts like so many sinners in the hands of an angry god.

  3. An Allison Mustang with a turbocharger might well have been a devastatingly effective high level machine, possibly even better than one with a Merlin 60-series, but I don't think it was ever tried. the turbocharged V-1710 was a very effective engine in the later P-38s, and made the prototype P-39 a high performer.

Didn't they try something like that on the F-82 Twin Mustang, only to discover that the Allison-engined types had noticeably inferior performance, or do I misremember?

  4. I only do BoB & captured Luftwaffe, all my BoB 109s are of examples left littering the hop fields of Kent & Sussex! I might be persuaded by the Spit as well even though I have 2 Ventura 22s.

I've long dreamed of a "Made in Germany - Finished in England [or Normandy/The Channel/ etc.]" decal sheet of nothing but downed Luftwaffe aircraft.

  5. Well, AFAIK (and I'm NOT an expert), the only Burma-based unit to have the Ki84 was the 64th Sentai, which received a FEW, to start replacing their obsolete Ki43s, just prior to the war's end. Whether the 64th was still based in Burma (it had withdrawn to Thailand/French Indo-China by the end of the war) when it received its Ki84s is another question.......

I think the 50th Sentai also had them as well, but as long as they were fighting UK/Commonwealth forces, I'm fine with them being in Indochina. Do any such decal options in 1/72 exist?

  6. PS. How do you get the replies to several messages all in one post? I did it one time, but I don't recall how. I don't think I manually edited the code, I think it just happened somehow.

By clicking on the quote option under each post you wish to reply to, and then clicking the reply option at the bottom of the page.

The Lightning is beautiful. Looks like a tiny guy might hop in and taxi it away at any moment.

  7. Sadly I learned that the rear gunner in my father's crew (see log book), Roland Gonnot, died yesterday. This leaves the upper gunner, Roger Fourès, as the only surviving member. He's 92 and I go and see him as often I can (he only lives some 60 miles away), so he can tell me about life in wartime England and at Elvington.

Roger and I had planned to visit Roland soon but this will never materialise.

My respect and admiration for your late father and his compatriots knows no bounds. Also, that metal Halifax is amazing.

  8. I have been painting my exhaust stubs a copper color from an old tube of Vallejo paint I've had lying around, but it strikes me that this is probably not terribly accurate. What's a good acrylic color to use? My local shop carries Modelmaster and Tamiya, so something from them is of course preferred.
