  1. My wife's love of pumpkin-spiced everything is seriously cutting into my modelling budget this month.

    1. Brad

      Brad

      Never tried pumpkin spice.

    2. Procopius

      Procopius

It's not as good as the spice Melange, which must flow, IMO.

  2. OKAY FINE! I'll build an FGR.2, you talked me into it.

I was actually just looking at that post for some inspiration, in fact. It's all YOUR fault!

I turn myself on just looking at that page!

  3. Had the privilege of reading an incredible collection of cartoons and photographs privately printed by a member of the WWII-era USAAF 84th TCS.

Mission complete! Hang on, you got the fleas as well?

  5. Why every strut on a biplane kit has to be a separate part, I'll never $^#^ing know.

    1. jenko

      jenko

Because biplanes like to strut their stuff.

To make the rigging seem less complicated

Even if they aren't, it isn't any easier :(

  6. I want so many things, but you'd think 1/72 decals for RFC late Nieuports would at least be in the realm of possibility.

  7. This is shaping up to be the most horribly stressful week of my entire life.

Is this a quote from the Emperor Justinian? Hopefully.

      Procopius

Ha! No, for him that was probably when he had to recall Belisarius to the colours to fight the Bulgars. I'm merely a hostage to fortune.

  8. So, for 2014 so far: 3 Mustangs, 4 Meteors, 3 Spitfires, a Seafire, a Sabre, an Fw 190, a Swift, a Hunter, and, coming soon...

I had a bad patch where I did almost nothing for a month, to my undying shame.

Sounds like a very productive year so far.

Coming soon: a trio of Harriers?

  9. Has anyone used the Daco solution on Fujimi decals? How'd it go?

    1. Brad

      Brad

I generally just use the replacement solution.

    2. Procopius

      Procopius

Yes, I do too, but I'm not a huge fan of having to buy aftermarket decals for every Fujimi kit.

Duncan -- tried to force the pace on two GBs, instead of my usual build-one-at-a-time method, and just the general confinement of a GB. All self-induced wounds.

  13. Ugh, completely ruined a Cyber-Hobby Meteor III trying to add some ex post facto noseweight.

      Wolwe82

ouch.. hope it wont be SO bad and you can fix it!

  14. What kind of world do we live in where the 1/32 Revell Hunter is cheaper and more available than the 1/72?

  15. Whoops, accidentally got Gunze lacquers, instead of Gunze acrylics.

I use the Mr Color thinners for Mr Color and Mr Hobby paints.

    3. Procopius

      Procopius

I just don't have the thinners for them, is all! Also, I have to paint in the garage with lacquers, which is tedious.

    4. -Neu-

      -Neu-

      FYI:

They are both acrylics, just their carrier medium is different (alcohol vs lacquer)

  16. Built so far this year: F-86, 2 x F-51D, Mustang IV, Hunter FGA.9, Meteor III, Meteor F.8, Meteor NF.13, Swift FR.5, Spitfire VIII, Spitfire F.21, Seafire FR.47

  18. Don't you hate when you only google the aircraft you're building a kit of AFTER the decals are on, and discover a decal error? Knowledge brings only unhappiness.

      What have you been building?

    4. Procopius

      Procopius

      A RAAF Meteor F8.

  19. Bummed about the apparent dimensional issues of the Xtrakit Vampire. Hope it's all somehow a huge hilarious misunderstanding.

    1. robvulcan

      robvulcan

I did not know they did a vampire. Whats up with it. Which mk ?

    2. Procopius

      Procopius

F.3/FB.5; it just came out, after much fanfare. Allegedly, the fuselage is far too long and possibly other issues as well. Hoping this is all somehow wrong.

    3. robvulcan

      robvulcan

Well if it looks like a vampire,, not all is bad, especially if you enjoy it. Mind you correcting a kit is part the fun ;)

  20. Apparently the MPM "hi-tech" Meteor F8 is at the very outer limits of my skills.

The wings need thinning at the trailing edge and the intakes/exhausts need a bit of work to fit without a step as I remember.

    3. Procopius

      Procopius

Thanks! Thinned the wings as best as I was able, gearing up for the intakes next. Luckily(?) I have two more F.8 kits to put all my learned lessons into practice on.

    4. Duncan B

      Duncan B

Same here, I just need to pluck up the patience. They do look great when they're finished so that's the incentive.

  21. Nothing like loving an obscure aircraft to make you overestimate the market size for a kit of it.

  22. Anyone make rolls of custom-width Kabuki tape? thinking that would help me with D-Day stripes.

      wellsprop

Tamiya tape 6mm is perfect for 1/72 fighters i.e. 18 inch width for single engine - 18"*2.54/72=6.35mm≈6mm.

      And for 48th scale -18"*2.54/48=9.5mm≈10mm

    3. Procopius

      Procopius

I know, I know, but that pesky 0.35mm is troubling me!

    4. wellsprop

      wellsprop

Hehe, perfectionist ;) Personally, I accept that it's a tiny bit out. It's only a negligible percentage out relative to the length of the whole model IMO

  23. Really hope Brengun decides to do a Tempest to follow up their Typhoon.

    4. Col.

      Col.

Yup, third shout for Seafires, anything that can look good and be bounced of a carrier deck gets my vote.

  25. Wrestling with AZ's Spitfire 21, probably the best in scale aside from its overly thick wings.
