  1. That a very interesting article, my friend. I read a few years ago that Stalin was keen for his scientists to come up with a flying submarine. It must have been a very brave soul who had to tell him it couldn't be done.... Cheers. Chris.
  2. I like this! Is it based on a real photo? If it is, then presumably the rest of the Tiger would have been nearby. Cheers. Chris.
  3. This looks like a modeller's dream product! Thanks for the review, Mike. Chris.
  4. Isn't that just a slightly slim-lined B-2? I was thinking it would be something a bit more radical than that..... Projected price per aircraft... why don't we start the ball rolling at 10 Billion Bucks each? At least the American gov. isn't 19 THOUSAND Billion dollars in debt right now! Oh, hold on a minute... they are! Cheers. Chris.
  5. Hi, Dave. Do the filler's instructions say that it is "paintable"? If so, I would say crack right on, my friend. You could always test your paint on an inconspicuous spot... or does this not really answer your question? Hope this helps. Chris.
  6. This is a very interesting thread. To give everyone another point-of-view, two years ago I walked around Hendon with an Aussie mate and he made this comment: "Back home, we don't give our historic aircraft even half of the respect I'm seeing here". I think he was very impressed with what he saw. From that perspective, maybe Hendon isn't all that bad...? When you consider we have Duxford, Hendon, Cosford, Shuttleworth and a number of privately-funded aviation museums in the UK, maybe we are doing reasonably well when it comes to preserving our aviation heritage (but there is always room for improvement, as we all know). Chris.
  7. All I would say about attempting this scheme with a brush: Paint the lighter colour first and then use the darker colour to make the first colour the right shape (but I guess you will always have the potential for the first layer of paint to show up as a fairly obvious "thickness" underneath the edges of the dark colour). Would a very light sanding of the edges of the lighter colour (before adding the darker colour) sort this potential problem out? I wish you all the best in your efforts. Chris.
  8. Excellent building and painting skills here, my friend. Thanks very much for sharing. Chris.
  9. Hi, Mick. No problem. I wish you luck in applying the decals, whether it's the originals or otherwise. Cheers. Chris.
  10. Hello. If you don't get any joy from Trumpeter and decide to continue with the currently-supplied sheets, you could coat the decals in one or two layers of Microscale Decal Film (I believe Hannants still sell it). This should (in theory, at least) stop the decals from falling apart in the water. Hope this helps. Chris.
  11. Just..simply..superb! Nothing more to say. Thanks for sharing. Chris.
  12. Really superb stuff! I'd love to make 'em even half as good as this.... Cheers for sharing with us. Chris.
  13. This is just about the best Hind I have seen in any scale! Thanks very much for sharing with us. Chris.
  14. Very good build and painting skills on display her, my friend! Thanks for sharing with us.... Chris.
  15. She looks like a great Stinger to me! Not sure that the rivet-counters would approve, but they never approve of anything, do they? Thanks for sharing with us.... Chris.
  16. That looks amazing to me, my friend! To my eye, it looks just like the real thing.... You mentioned the kit has some fit issues - what were the main ones? Thanks for sharing with us. Chris.
  17. Hi, Mutley. I might be asking the really obvious one here, but have you tried searching through the "Ready For Inspection" part in the Aircraft section? Cheers. Chris.
  18. I will be buying five of the painted version next week.... and then I will be flying to Venus under my own power! Holey Moley! That is one serious charge for a model..... Chris.
  19. That is looking amazing so far, my friend! I really like your weathering technique.... Was the resin cockpit much hassle to fit into place? Cheers. Chris.
  20. Afternoon, All. Please understand in reading this that I am a great fan and supporter of Duxford and all that it does for aviation enthusiasts. I have been a "Friend of Duxford" for about 10 years now (currently about £55 a year). Having said that, I cannot stay quiet on the charges for Duxford airshows this year. The May airshow is £29.50 in advance (no tickets for sale on the day!) and then if you want to park your car there's a £5.00 charge for that! You can use the code AIR20SHOW to get a 20% discount when ordering, which does lessen the blow to some degree. I'm not sure when this discount code is valid until - Duxford's website should provide all the details. I'm sorry, but considering that the actual airshow will last for around 3.5 hours, the ticket-price is simply not good value for money IMO. I must admit that I have never been a fan of compulsory pre-ordered tickets, for the simple reason that you can NEVER rely on the UK's weather playing nicely on the day. I have been to a number of show in recent years that have been all but wiped out by bad weather (obviously, this is one factor completely outside of the organizer's control, but these things happen). If we compare this show to RIAT at RAF Fairford, you are paying between 10 or 15 quid a day more (depending the time of year you order your tickets), but you will be watching an eight hour air display and there is a great deal more to see on the ground. RIAT can attract a much wider selection of participants, simply because of its size and global reputation. By comparison, I just don't think that Duxford is offering great value for money. I don't want Duxford to suffer in any way, but I think they might find their airshow attendance significantly lower this year now that the ticket-price has reached this level.... What does anyone else think? Chris.
  21. Very, very sad news indeed. I have wanted to visit Monino for years and it looks like that won't happen now. Would it take huge sums of money to employ a handful of security staff to protect the exhibits? Again, sad news for all aviation enthusiasts. . Chris.
  22. I think you're being a bit harsh on yourself here. It looks every inch the battle-hardened Tiger to me! Using the Pyrograph to produce the Zimmerit finish was a brave move... I would be too scared of slipping and doing something I would really regret.... Thanks for sharing with us. Chris.
  23. I would hazard a guess that it's some type of anti-RPG defence, a bit like those used on Israeli Merkavas. That is only a (semi-educated) guess, however. Cheers. Chris. PS: I'm having difficulty reading the text on the photos,,, does it say "Military Zone Syria / Sama TV"? If it does, what's that all about? I also can't tell if it has been painted on to the device or has been used as a water-mark on the image.
  24. I am liking this very much! A real credit to your build and painting skills, my friend. Cheers for sharing with us. Chris.
  25. I'm not sure that 1/16th scale Subs would be practical for most display cabinets...... (Please take this comment as a JOKE... it wasn't intended to be serious!) Cheers. Chris.
