  1. Looks good to me - great Hellcat... always looked best in TSS...
  2. Stunning.... Fantastic work... I'm off to o get my knitting....
  3. To try to add to Triumphfans post, the Aileron in the centre of the turn is the aileron that goes up, the other drops meaning that the aeroplane roles. I.e. Stick left, left aileron up, right aileron down, aeroplane roles left. If you are making a multiengined aeroplane with a failed engine on one side, the uneven power would cause the airplane to try to turn into the stalled engine, to counter this you would apply opposite rudder... Of course the secondary effect is that the aeroplane will roll but that's where it gets complicated.... So it's worth doing a bit of finding out about aeroplane controls to ensure that you pose your aircraft correctly.. Oh by the way, love the Yellow Nosed Bar Steward...
  4. Hi @Cambridge thanks for your comments. Yes I have the parts boxed away, so I have all the hatches, track link supports etc. As for the decoration - well its not at that stage yet but yes I have them as well, I will have to decide whether to use the decals or spray my own.. As for are my skills greater now - Its difficult to tell as I haven't done any Armour since this but for comparison here are a couple of recent aircraft I have completed... What do you think? Is the Ambush scheme to vivid for a Normandy Tiger? You in the finish it out camp?
  5. I'll start this yarn by offering my excuse for bad modelling, I'm really more of an aero modeller than an armour modeller. Over 10 years ago now I had this blinding flash and decided I wanted to build a Tiger (I think it was inspired by watching some movie or another). I duly bought the Tamiya 1/35 Tiger (well what else) and started badgering away... I got the basic body done, decided that it should have Zimmerit(?) which I added, didn't like the tow cables so replaced them, thought that the side skirts needed to look a bit more rugged so added bolts or bolt holes for those that had pulled off and brush painted the Ambush Scheme (as best I could). I was also wondering if there was a better way of displaying it, so I came up with the box diorama idea. The idea was to backlight the building to the Tiger is lit by the light through the windows... As I say all that was 10 years and several house moves ago. For most of those 10 years it has been sitting in a box in various attics and thats where I just found it... SO here it is as it currently stands,,, So what do you think? Tidy it up and Finish it... Complete rebuild, complete repaint and a different scenic base... Put the whole lot in the Bin and forget about it...
  6. Many moons ago, when God was a boy I used to make the odd diorama, I would use sisal to make long grass. Same technique as Badders above. I would colour or paint the sisal before planting by soaking a length of the string in the appropriate water colour (whatever was cheap and available) then leaving to dry, then untwist the string. I wouldn't tie a noose but just dip the end of a small bunch of sisal into PVA then onto the base and leave to set spreading the clump slightly as it dried. Once dry I would brush paint it again including any variation in colour.. I never did water, apart from a couple of puddles on a Waterloo diorama but do like the thought of a nice muddle Paddy field. This is good work, please keep it up and show us how you get on..
  7. It was the Serial that was used to identify airframes. During the life of an aircraft it could be issued to many different squadrons and carry many different ID letters. The only thing consistant about its ID was the Serial. Having said that, some pilots recorded the aircraft ID letter in their log books, so it might be worth trying to get hold of a number of Squadron pilot Log Books to see if any identified the airframe..
  8. I guess a lot of it is down to how the aeroplane is displayed. If you go through the various galleries, those aircraft displayed with 'context' do stand out. Now I'm going to show you one of my in-flights. Don't laugh it was thrown together in a day and a half but hopefully it shows context...
  9. I'm obviously not such a big kit buyer as most of you but I think a couple of Sea Furies and Walruses from this years collection and a couple of Hurricanes / Sea Hurricanes and Spitfires from last year will keep me busy...
  10. Apart from the spools, headrest and decals, aren't the rest of the bits in the current boxing anyway? That was my plan for the next Sea Hurricane...
  11. Sea Fury - what's not to like... Great job, great finish..
  12. I am currently starting converting an Airfix Sunderland III to a Sandringham. At the rate it's progressing you'll need to extend this GB to Dec '19...
  13. I think you can sort the alignment of the motor shaft to propellor shaft by having a flexible link between them, bit of shrink wrap or flexible tubing but you still need it the alignment close. I'm thinking for the shaft - if it is made of brass tube you can use the brass for one connection to the motor and pass the other (insulated wire) down inside the tube.. For the rocket motor I'm thinking of a small (2mm) super bright LED in the tail pipe of the rocket, supported by stiff wire from the rail, carefully hidden with Cotton smoke trail.... Maybe...
  14. Done a couple of UP's but I have an issue with the props. They need to be going around. Stationary props, etched props and clear disks don't quite do it form me. I'm thinking a motorising the Has Typhoon Ib, using an Airfix 1/48 pilot from the Hurricane and considering if there is a way to light the rocket motor....
  15. Don't know if this helps - it's for my own reference really.. bit it funny format but I think it comes across... Colour BS# Xtracrilix. 16. Good start. It is a good model. I built two in 2015, and they came out ok. The kits fit well and reward a careful build. Good luck with you build..
  17. I'm sure I can muster something Martlet looking in 2018 - count me in...
  18. I would like to partake if I may? Adds to my Aces of the FAA Theme that is currently underway, I have a range in the stash to choose from, which I may take the opportunity to expand before the GB... BTW is the RNAS included?
  19. Could I play please? I'm usually a WWII Fleet Air Arm guy but as my Great Grandad joined 4th Field Company RE in 1915, served with the London Division outside Ypres in 1916, Somme 1916 (attack on High Wood) and then back to Ypres and at some point transferred to 90th Division ending up on the Rhine in Feb 1919 - I thought I'd give it a shot. So to that end I have bought the Masterbox (?) Somme British Infantry set and thought I might have a crack... When do we start? When do we finish (I've never done a GB)...
  20. Think I'll stick with Special Hobby for the Firefly I. I actually like SH kits..
  21. I'm in - Top cover position,. i'm not going to do pop corn, I'm fat after Christmas and need to become a bit thinner else I won't fit in the damned 1/72 cockpit anymore...
