  1. No me neither, makes the single color scheme a little more interesting. Not fun masking over decals to create the matt/gloss demarcation lines... It was that old Aero Series book that was so useful with the early details, paint scheme, cockpit, airbrake, wheels, seat etc.
  2. Likely but it was flat and glossy by design. I think I've heard it was supposed to have made it easier cleaning the bottom. The lines facing forward are flat and side to side gloss. Welcome Stulad!
  3. No, they were an old pair of Cutting Edge that I was glad to finally put to use! Agreed, that's why I went with the two I had. I did a lot of looking at what color images I had comparing the blue sky color with the blue Eagle's color and ended up going with both paints I had, the Lifecolor being a little bit more punchy so used more sparingly. The glossier left half of the Lifecolor cap is the Hataka and the right half is the Lifecolor. Here's the same colors with the bottom half given a brush of Future.
  4. I used a couple of Alclad colors over gloss black. I believe it was Airframe aluminium first, then some White aluminium and Pale burnt metal and I think some burnt iron on the feathers. Their paints can handle masking well. I did mix it. I used copper and red as I thought some photos had a slight metallic look to it. The seat was an old True Details ESCAPAC I had. It looked too small at first but once in with some added rails it was fine. The wheels were from the old Tamiya F-15A, the old Monogram has them too. Yes, they went for the Compass Gray scheme pretty soon afterward. Finding good reference photos was tougher than expected because the scheme didn't last long. Thanks everyone.
  5. Love an old Monogram anytime, cool choice of paint scheme.
  6. This is another stash clearer, I have a GWH F-15c and knew if I built it I would have a hard time going back to the Hasegawa F-15A in the pile. I wanted to do the early blue scheme with the reddish canopy frame and unique insignia, it reminded me of seeing the first 1/72 scale Monogram kits in the department stores as a child. I had a couple bottles of Air Superiority Blue saved for it, replaced kit items with an older ESCAPAC seat and different wheels then added the air brake stiffener. Mixed my own metallic green for the cockpit rear. Decals were mostly Superscale stencils and some Caracal for unit and insignia. The blue scheme is sort of unique in that it is glossy underneath and matt on top. I used Hataka Air Superiority Blue overall and on the matt areas I added thin coats of Lifecolor Air Superiority Blue (which has slightly purple hue to Hataka’s slightly greenish hue of blue) on the top and sides. I found referencing the old blue more difficult than expected, luckily I had an old Aeroseries 28 book. It had everything needed for early eagles. I finished it in a sort of Langley QRF load out.
  7. My bad, Aeroclub, thank you. Huge and vac formed, it was out of my reach in a lot of ways.
  8. Can you put a beer next to it to show how big it is? I saw the Dynavector kit once at Hannants and it was huge.
  9. That's the business. Keep the Phoenix on it!
  10. I've had no problems with UK orders from the shops below. Hobbycolours are based in Greece and you can pay when you order. The AKAN team sends you a Paypal invoice within a day to complete the transaction. Quite a few vendors on eBay too. https://hobbycolours.com/ http://shop.akan.ru/
  11. Nice job, I'm a big fan of the Monogram 1/48 kits.
  12. So true! Luckily it was all collected over the years and not in one go so it limits the pain. I bought the pitots while I was finishing it...now on to something OOB.
  13. There's a handful of photos out there which I relied on for the weathering They are from Eduard
  14. Hasegawa kit, Aires cockpit, Cutting edge intakes, Hypersonic canopy details, Brassin AIM-9s and aircrew, Armory wheels, Master pitots, Afterburner and Superscale decals and mostly Testors paint mixtures.
  15. I second that. I've just started the Zvezda Yak-130 and have been enjoying all aspects of the kit. I'm thinking the whole time how nice a Zvezda 1/48 Su-30SM would be like.
  16. It builds up into an early prototype well, I'm looking forward to having several production versions next to it someday. Too many paint schemes already for only a handful of aircraft.
  17. I've used the Eduard and also Dream Model etch too. I always repaint as much of the incorrect 'interior color' on the etch as I can with lightened AKAN 73069 to better match the rest of the cockpit. Basically fill in between the dials with a tiny brush and diluted paint.
