  1. Thank you 172flogger. Eduard instruction sheets could be a good reference. Anyway ........ the beast was painted tonight and it's ....... blue!! Cheers.
  2. Thanks Jure. Looks like it will be blue! Cheers, Kit carson
  3. Hi !! Currently building Eduard's MiG-15 (a very nice kit), using Tally Ho!'s markings (sheet 72 055) for aircraft 3234 which performed aerobatics at a 1957 airshow. Tally Ho! describe the special markings for this aircraft as blue wings and fuselage arrow and cite 'Letectvi and Kosmounatisa' 9/2007 as their reference which l have not seen. There is a b/w photo of this aircraft in 'MiG-15 In Action', page 32. Other references describe the aircraft's special markings as red. Any comments?? Many thanks!! Kit Carson
  4. Blue it is!! Many thanks Jens!! Carson
  5. Thanks for the suggestions. I have decided to go with PRU blue unders and Dark Sea Grey / Dark Green uppers using the Danish reference mentioned above and the fact that the RF-84s were Blue underneath ............. (colour photo Famous Airplanes Of The World No 61 page 42). All the best, Carson
  6. Hi all. l am modelling A-769 (51-10769) - an F-84G of Esk 730 in 1960 using Model Art decal sheet (Art 48/009). The RDAF applied squadron identification colours to the wing tip tanks of their F-84s. Can anyone confirm the RDAF Esk 730 squadron colour as applied to their F-84Gs? Model Art suggests Dark Blue wing tip tanks, nose band and rudder whereas Tinbox 2-1976 (a Danish publication) states that Esk 730 used Green and that Blue was used by Esk 726. Model Art shows the aircraft with an additional Green fuselage band (not blue). In 1957 Tinbox states that the RDAF repainted their camouflaged F-84Gs with the Grey and Green colours swapping (!) though the basic pattern did not change. Were the final colours the same as the original colours of Dark Green / Dark Sea Grey / PRU Blue? Or something similar? Model Art suggest RAF Light Aircraft Grey for the undersides (and RAF Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey for the uppers) ... but Tinbox maintain that PRU Blue was used underneath. Help with these questions would be greatly appreciated ... l'd like to finish the model ... started in 2000!! Cheers, Carson
  7. The Xtradecal pattern is completely different to Camouflage and Markings No.5 (and all of the others listed.) It's not a mirror image.
  8. I'm looking for advice as to the likely four colour shadow scheme for RAF Gladiator N2308 HP-B as featured on the recent Xtradecal Battle of Britain decal sheet. I have versions of the camouflage scheme as follows 1. The following patterns are similar to each other, but not identical: Usk decal sheet 7108-2 Camouflage and Markings No.5, page 117 Scale Aircraft Modelling September 1979, page 553 and May 1981, page 353 Warpaint No. 37 Gloster Gladiator, page 15 2. The pattern given on Xtradecal's BoB sheet X72-117 is very different to those listed above (but similar to the Irish Air Corps pattern shown in a photo on page 40 of the Warpaint title (a shadow scheme????). Your comments will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!!!!!!!!
  9. Thanks to all. I have used Gunze acrylic for many years and found that (for me at least) it adheres well to plastic. Sometimes with a matt enamel undercoat - sometimes without. Plastic is always cleaned beforehand. Looks like l will need to undercoat with matt enamel before using Extracrylix. In this case l was applying Alclad to a 1/144 Roden C-47 (converted to a DC-3) and as the model has very fine surface detail didn't want to apply too many coats prior to the Alclad so tried a single coat of gloss black Extracrylix - next time l guess l'll use gloss black enamel as my undercoat. Again, thanks to all.
  10. Now that postal restrictions have made it very difficult to obtain Xtracolor in sunny Australia l have started using Xtracrylix (thinned with water). To my dismay it does not like Tamiya masking tape - when the tape is removed the Xtracolor peels off leaving the bare plastic of the kit. Does anyone have any suggestions as to an application method that allows the use of Tamiya tape?? I imagine matt enamel could be used as an undercoat - but would rather not use this approach. Many thanks!!!!!
  11. l glued the fuselage halves together with cockpit detail included. The wings were assembled as per the kit instructions although l glued the separate spar (part 11) to the upper port wing (part 9) rather than to the upper starboard wing (part 6) ie l did not follow the kit instructions (because l did not read them carefully enough!!!!). End result was that on my first attempt the wings and fuselage fitted together and all looked good - other than large gaps around the wing roots which will need to be filled. It can be done ........ perhaps a degree of luck was involved. David G you are right - the method is daft - a more traditional method would have been easier and maybe stronger too!
  12. Was the black wing walkway standard on all RN Sea Furies of the Korean War period? Some photos seem to not show the walkway ........... perhaps it's hard to see due to the low contrast between EDSG and the 'black' of the walkway, perhaps not applied to both wings of the aircraft, perhaps the walkway is sometimes dark grey rather than black or maybe it's simply not there? Thanks for your help!!
  13. For the Lancastrian fuel tanks were fitted in what was the Lancaster bomb bay. Were the bomb bay doors removed and replaced with new skinning or simply locked in place? What was the location of the three fuel pump covers on the aircraft's belly - is there a photo or drawing available? Many thanks.
  14. Thanks - will go for a 'darker and redder' red than Xtracolor's Red Arrows red for my Red Devils Sea Hawk. OzH my Sea Hawk currently looks a lot like yours - l'll treat the Red Arrows red as an undercoat! The colour film of the team can be found on YouTube - search for 'Sea Hawk Red Devils' - love the five aircraft formation take off and landing sequences............Cheers, Carson
  15. Hi all, Xtradecal's sheet for the Sea Hawk suggests Gloss Red for the Red Devils team. The only red mentioned on the sheet is Xtracolor X014 Red Arrows Red. To my eye this is more of an orange color rather than the 'flame red' mentioned in the video of the Red Devils on the net. Any suggestions ............. And the 'lump' under the rear fuselage between the exhausts ......... is that a smoke generator? Any references out there? Thanks!
