  1. A belated thankyou for your replies - I got back to the Bristol Scout today after being sidetracked restoring a Blenheim ( I wish I could concentrate on one model at a time !!). After consideration I think I'll use Humbrol 106. I've admitted before that I tresspass on this forum as I build R/C scale models but this is THE best place to discover informaton on colours, markings etc....hopefully I will be allowed to continue.......
  2. I would be very grateful if anyone could advise what the nearest match for the grey used to overpaint plywoood panels on British aircraft, specifically those panels around the cockpit on the Bristol Scout.
  3. Almost ready to fly just needs the spinner balancing. There is not much detail as you would see on the models usually shown on this forum but I make sport scale models so as long as they look reasonable from 2 metres and in the air I'm happy.
  4. This thread is all about why I enjoy visiting this forum. I downloaded the Hurricane Ducimus pdf and having just painted a hurricane was pleased to find I got the undersurface correct - the Black/White/Aluminium does however look slightly weird but as it's a flying model I hope it will help me decide which way up it is!!
  5. oops "I am painting the wings this weekend " - I normally build biplanes !!!!!
  6. Hi WIP - looked at the first link (will save the next one for later when more time) and very impressed with the finish -looks very realistic to me. Are they Humbrol enamels? Despite the valuable advice received here on the undersurface colour I have decided to paint mine as per one of the Hurricanes seen at the start of the film Battle of Britain. In this scene 3 Hurricanes land on a French airfield "flown" by Robert Shaw,Edward Fox and Ian McShane to be rearmed and refuelled however when they discover that the Germans are only 30 mins away they wisely beat a hasty retreat. Anyway it can be seen that the undersurface of these are black and light Blue. I am painting the wings this weekend then will post some pics (when I work out how). Although we are referring to flying models here I hope the posts will seen to be apprpriate for this forum as the subject is based on painting and finishing.
  7. Jon - I can only generalise but I think there is sometimes more emphasis on getting the aircraft flying than paying attention to the appearance. Take a look at this thread on RCgroups which shows the awful colours that my Hurricane came in. (Also shows my Fokker D7 built from plan 53" span) http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread....797&page=48 I have since resprayed with Humbrol enamels followed by a satin polyurethane then rubbed down with 1200 wet&dry but many have left in the original finish. I think its just a different type of modelling although personally I like the finishing part quite a lot. I visit this forum quite a lot - loads of good stuff here
  8. Thanks for all the replies - I will check out the volvo grey. I was getting a bit obsessive over it but OTOH I like to think I that I have painted my models in a good represenation of the real thing. This is an R/C model and at least at club level there are some very dodgy scale finishes compared to most of the models seen here.
  9. OK I know it sounded a stupid question but if for example you look at the range of paint in Halfords it's surprising how many different shades there are...just wondered if there was some sort of specification but probably being too nit picking.
  10. I am trespassing in this forum as I am building a 1/7 th scale ARTF Hurricane but it seems a good place to ask this question........... I am finishing it in the early black/white undersurface scheme but can't find a reference for the white..........can anyone recomend a paint for this please? thanks Chris
  11. I am building a 1/7th scale R/C Hurricane (which I am sure won't look as good as these models) and I find this forum to be a gold mine of information. I am finishing my hurricane as a Mk1 and want to use the Black/White lower surface scheme however can anyone tell me which is the best paint match for the "white". Thanks Chris
