  1. Many thanks Flight Line Media, some more scratch-building work to do just yet but I'm winning!
  2. Many thanks and much appreciated Escaflowne, first time I've tackled the more major items GSE so I'm using plenty of reference photos!
  3. Many thanks Phildagreek, just need to try and maintain my composure once the painting starts!
  4. Many thanks Pappy, yes this whole diorama is totally about maintenance.....and with my friend Kev being a former Jaguar 'sooty', I've got some excellent reference material with his knowledge/memories,......Thanks for the heads-up regarding the earth lead, I'll certainly do my best to tick all the boxes!
  5. Nothing cheap about it Bar Side, I'm normally a staunch scratch-builder myself, I will freely admit PE brass is not my favourite either.....I too struggle with it, for example, that 'A' frame ladder you see in the photos? took me three attempts....and LOTS of hours, but it did not beat me! LOL If anything I've done with nitrogen trolley helps your own scratch-build along then I'll be really pleased.
  6. Thank you and much appreciated Bar Side, yes a lot of head scratching and comparing of notes with Kev went on and I think we've pretty much got the final scenario worked out now, just got to chop some of the figures around a bit to make them fit their roles better. The Nitrogen trolley kit was good enough as it comes in the box, but to ensure a smoother paint finish I sanded/polished the white metal tanks, also undertook the fiddly job of attaching small lengths of brass tube to each tank and the connection point on the back of the control box , idea being to make connecting all the pipes a little easier later on.....we'll see LOL! A bit more scratch-building of tool boxes to come then I'll finally be looking to start some painting.
  7. Many thanks Alan, though its been a be very long road with this project its starting to take shape now and hopefully progress quicker once the painting starts!
  8. Many thanks Don, much appreciated. It must be said. as this project has developed.....its developed even more! hopefully I'll be able to post another progress update soon. Del.
  9. Hi Escaflowne, Many thanks for your kind comments about the model, it has been a long project and still lots of work to do, hopefully an update post will appear on here in the near future. Thank you for posting your photos, some amazing reference material there! and I have to say, this is the first time I've seen such extensive cut-away views, absolutely wonderful stuff!
  10. Much appreciated James G, its certainly not been easy, and being honest.....the most difficult thing in modelling I've attempted! but I'm confident it will be worth all the effort to see how it looks on the finished diorama!
  11. Many thanks Longhorn.....its taken a LOT of very fiddly hours so far.....but I'll have plenty to paint!
  12. Many thanks Fritag, things are developing steadily now so we hope to show more progress soon, including some paint going on!
  13. Many thanks John, that's really appreciated. A lot more work to do yet mind as things progress......in my crystal ball I see the eventual diorama and it spurs me on!
  14. Very much appreciated Trevor, this detailing has taken considerably longer than I anticipated.....so very fiddly, plus its the first engine I've ever tackled, so its taught me much that will be useful in the future....one thing I love about modelling, y'never stop learning!
  15. Thank you very much RMP2, it will indeed be very fiddly.....I have a therapist ready on standby! LOL. Some more photos will also be following soon, showing the other engine mounted in its layby stand.
  16. Thanks very much Woody37, that particular nightmare will soon be starting!
  17. Much appreciated DAG058, from the start I realised the engine could get more and more congested with every part I scratch-built, so with this in mind the main engine body, lower section were built as separate components. The main reason was to ease the eventual painting process! However, I overlooked the series of pipes that run between and join both components....so now these also have to be treated as separate parts to be painted/added at final assembly!.......where is the JD bottle!
  18. Many thanks exdraken,.....got the fun yet to come of trying to paint all this!
  19. Hi all, Though it’s been a while since the last posting here, the Jaguar project has certainly evolved. Mostly concentrating on scratch-building small components for the engines but most significantly; adding pipe runs and cabling (various gauges of copper, aluminium and lead wire), which has been a complicated and very fiddly job. Though there is still some detailing to do, adding fine gauge pipework and some cabling to areas of the lower engine sections, before too long the engines and a few other sub-assemblies will be ready for painting to commence. If all goes well, the next installment should include some photos showing both engines fully assembled to pre-paint stage. Regards, Del
  20. Many thanks Colin, Its certainly turning into quiet a comprehensive project! progress has been a bit slower of late due to the mass of new pipework the engines have sprouted. This took a fair bit of planning/trial and error to accomplish and was predictably time consuming but I'm winning now! I hope to put up some recent photos to show how things have changed in the next day or so....though I can't match Kev's photos skills, my rough and ready shots will illustrate how things look now until he can work his usual magic as you've seen in the previous images. Cheers, Del.
  21. Many thanks Tiger331, that's much appreciated. Yes the Adour engines are without doubt the focus of this diorama so a fair bit of works was always anticipated. I have to say, unlike your good self and my colleague Kev, I don't have a technical/engineering background so the hours of research coupled with the priceless advise I've had from those knowledgeable souls like yourself, has made the project a fascinating learning experience. I hope everyone following the thread continues to enjoy the project as it progresses, the amazing standard of the photos Kev produces to document everything make my job as the builder far easier!
  22. Much appreciated exdraken.....its not been easy! Del.
  23. Many thanks Shaun, The extra detail included and modifications carried out are to support a very specific theme, its working well so far and it will soon be time for some paint. All of us who have built this kit know of the little 'quirks' that come with it, but these issue aside, I've seen fantastic OOB builds produced by our fellow modeller's out there. Is your own project is an RAF example? would love to see some photos on here! Cheers, Del.
  24. Much appreciated Alan P, thank you. Definitely a project that has tested me, but also taught me so much! Like you I'm proud of my blue-tac and tape credentials...it makes everything possible, although some of it downright fiddly!
  25. Very much appreciated McFly! glad that people are finding this build interesting.....still quiet a bit to do yet!
