  1. Do you mean the upper cowl piece? I did have to shim it with some plasticard but it was a quick fix The underside needed a shim as well
  2. Thanks everyone! I'm glad you like it 👍
  3. Latest one off the bench, Tamiya's classic P-51B Mustang with a good bit of work thrown at it. 1/48 Tamiya P-51B Mustang Capt William J Shackleford 375 FS / 361 FG Bottisham, England August 1944 - Aires cockpit - BarracudaCals cockpit placards - Ultracast spinner, prop, exhaust, flaps, and wheels - Squadron vac canopy - Gun barrels replaced with Albion Alloys tubing - Fuselage riveted - Wing panel lines filled - Custom paint masks for all major markings - AMDG decals for "Queen Jean" script and playing cards Anyways, on to the pics!
  4. Thanks everyone! It's been a while since I built an older kit like this so I'm pleased it turned out as well as it did. I'm not sure if they even make it anymore, I've had it for ages. Here's the box
  5. The latest off the bench as I continue to attempt to clear out the shelf of doom. This one had a MASSIVE wing root gap that got it shelved for years, but I got it sorted and I'm so glad I did. Not a huge fan of the Russian stuff, but the La-7 is pretty sleek! Lavochkin La-7 "White 97" 523rd IAP, 15th VA 2nd Baltic Front, Spring 1945 Neomega cockpit BarracudaCast seat BarracudaCast wheels RobTaurus vac canopy Scratch details added Metal panels riveted Custom paint masks AK Real Colors paints
  6. Thanks! While looking for a bird to do I just happened to come across a wartime photo of PS853 and I was sold immediately
  7. Thanks! I like little simple tricks that make a big difference 😉
  8. I'm a big fan of "what if" schemes, too. Here's my reworked-and-massaged HobbyBoss Ta152C-11 in JG.1 markings https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234978930-148-hobbyboss-ta-152c-11-what-if-jg-1/ Thanks again everyone!
  9. I've got one of these in the stash that I couldn't sell, either haha. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because of the plastic used in the re-release. I was selling mine because I snagged one of the original 90's releases from eBay in beautiful Tamigawa-ish grey plastic. It's on my to-do list along with the Spit 22/24, the XIX really got me excited for more Griffons. Look forward to seeing what you make of it!
  10. Yeah, I couldn't believe it had been that long either! There are lots of kits I still think of as "new" that have been out for a while now. As for the prop, I painted it up in my usual way with Tamiya acrylics. NATO Black for the base color, German Grey for some variation in color and some streaking, and some sponge chipping with Vallejo Neutral Grey. After applying the prop decals I felt they were far too bright and bold, so I gave it another light misting of super thinned NATO Black to tone them down. I believe the effect you're asking about is the final step - I cleared them with AK Matte like the rest of the plane and then with a brush and toothpick I spattered them with AK Ultra Matte. So it's almost a trick of the light, more visible from some angles than others.
  11. Thanks! No fancy tricks for the finish here, really. I just laid down a base coat of PRU Blue over grey primer, then added a drop of white to the PRU and gave the whole plane a thin random mottle/marble layer. I used to use all of those other techniques under the base coat, but I find that for my needs it was just a bunch of unnecessary work.
  12. Here's my latest off the bench, rescued from the shelf of doom after 6 years. Spitfire XIX PS853 No 16 Sqdn Belgium, April 1945 The Airfix kit is great, if a little fiddly at times. The biggest issue is the soft plastic Airfix uses these days, I miss the hard grey Tamiya/Hasegawa stuff they used in the late 90's. I did my best to address most of the issues but a few still slipped through the cracks. I started out with the surface detail - rescribing all of the panel lines so they are crisp and uniform and riveting the airframe. Most of the rest was addressed with aftermarket and the spares box. I used every available BarracudaCast set as well as some Eduard PE and transplanted the main gear and tail wheel from Eduard Spitfire VIII leftovers. Aftermarket rundown: - BarracudaCast cockpit - BarracudaCast intake - BarracudaCast exhaust - BarracudaCast prop - BarracudaCast wheels - BarracudaCast vac canopy - Eduard Zoom PE - Eduard main gear legs/doors - Eduard tail wheel - Miracle Paint Masks - Kits World stencil decals - AK Real Colors paints Anyway, on to the pics!
  13. Hey guys! Finished this one up a few weeks ago, a little what-if build to cleanse the palette and have a little fun. I built it as an "all metal" Salamander as if there was no aluminum shortage in Germany at the end of the war, panel lines and rivets added, and gave it a speculative scheme in Blue RLM 83 and 76. Consider it a semi-Luft46. Modifications include: - Panel lines and rivets added - Quickboost seat - Quickboost gunsight - BarracudaCast main wheels - Eduard Zoom - Master barrels, pitot, gear indicator - Custom masks for markings - AK Real Colors paints
  14. Excellent work! The AKI kit is certainly a gem, wish I hadn't sold mine. Can't wait to see this one finished!
  15. Wow, blast from the past indeed! Almost 5 years ago! Thanks again, guys
  16. This one has been on the bench for far too long. I'm pleased with how it turned out, but also happy to have it out of the way haha. SBS cockpit True Details wheels Hollowed exhausts and gun barrels Riveted Montex and custom paint masks etc
  17. Always a pleasure to see your latest builds, superbly clean work as always!
  18. Need to be more productive in 2018, but here are my two 1/48 Eduard Spitfire IX's from 2017
  19. Excellent work! Great build and beautiful paint work. This bird is still on my to-do list and I have the Eduard kit, but I'm waiting for them to retool it with the rest of their 190 family. I built their 190D-9 and said "never again"
  20. Thanks Ian! Glad you posted, good to see this build again. Wish I still had it
