  1. Also went ahead and did up the Ultracast wheels and exhaust along the way, so these are ready to go. Wheels will get further weathering to "sand" them up for this desert bird
  2. Been a few days since I've posted an update, hasn't really been much to show. So here's a mockup for you guys The wings are attached but the lower cowl, tailplanes, and Ultracast door (of course) are just stuck on for pics. I used the clipped wing tips from the standard Vb kit as they look the part much better than the larger clipped tips provided in the Trop kit. I drilled a hole for the camera that was installed on this bird, and made a cover for it from Tamiya tape. Holes for the Master barrels are also drilled.
  3. All Tamiya acrylics - Cockpit Green, followed by heavily thinned Flat Earth to dirty things up, then lightened Cockpit Green for highlights
  4. Moving right along, the cockpit is done. Only used a few bits from the Eduard set, not looking to super-detail this cockpit, obviously, but just spruce it up here and there. Fuselage and wing halves are also glued together, so once I clean up those seams I'll install the cockpit tub and attach the wings
  5. Thanks guys! Drem, I'm in the US so I get all of my Ultracast products from SprueBrothers
  6. No problem! In the pics so far, I have used the Ultracast resin seat with the Eduard PE lap belts. Shoulder belts will be added later. On the seat bulkhead, I used the Eduard replacement for the upper triangular section of armor plate, with the kit headrest transplanted onto it. The instrument panel is Eduard color PE, and I also added some wiring from copper wire to that bulkhead The cockpit door is also an Ultracast resin piece
  7. Got some work done on the office today! Haven't gotten to the detail painting yet except for a little on the seat, but we're off to a good start There is also no wash on any of these parts yet.
  8. Sorry for the lack of updates. I've got the surface detail squared away, so I'm ready to start on the cockpit today. I should have updates soon!
  9. Well considering the sprues on this Tamiya kit have a copyright date of 1994 on them, I'd say they beat Eduard to the punch
  10. Ok guys, this is the best I can do to show the riveting progress. Once I sand things smooth and the lines and rivets fill with dust then I'll be able to take a head-on shot I'm by no means a rivet-counter, I just like to add an artistic representation of the rivet pattern to "busy it up" a bit:
  11. Thanks again for the kind words, everyone! I'll be sure to keep posting my builds here I've already started a WIP thread for my next project - a Tamiya Spitfire Vb Trop
  12. Well I have another Tamiya Vb in the stash, though it's not a Trop. It's grey plastic instead of tan, but I could still show side by side?
  13. So I just finished up the Eduard Fw190D-9, and after battling that kit I'm in need of a "shake-n-bake"! Wasting no time I've already started on the Spit, but no progress worth showing yet as I always start my builds by scribing so that all lines are crisp and uniform, and this is when I do my riveting. For now, here's the obligatory kit/aftermarket photo: (not pictured - Ultracast wheels, exhaust, cockpit door) Markings will be WR*R shown on the Aeromaster sheet
  14. Thanks guys, you flatter me! I don't have the bottles in front of me to read off the bottle numbers, but I used RLM's 74/75/76/82/83 and "Duck Egg Green" (Sky/RLM84)
  15. Well if you look through the thread you can see the fitment issues I had with the engine/firewall and the gun bays. Both require a lot of work just to get the fuselage and wing halves to close, plus closing the gun bay doors. My Revolution BR has a 0.3mm and my HP-B has a 0.2mm
  16. The headache was the Fw190, not the Spitfire. The Eduard Spit is supposed to be a dream kit I use both an Iwata Revolution BR and Iwata HP-B Plus. I'd recommend the Revolution series to start out with. But you can't go wrong with the Badger brand airbrushes that many people start out with
  17. My pleasure! And next on the bench is a Tamiya Spitfire Vb Trop - I need a "shake-n-bake" build after this headache! haha
  18. I say "the infamous Brown 4" because it is the best documented of only three 190D-9's with the Ta152 tail and has been built many times. If you Google "190D-9 Brown 4", you will get many other builds, profiles, captured pics, etc. Aside from that, there's not much else to the story.
  19. Finished pics posted in "Ready for Inspection" - check it out! http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234941844-148-eduard-fw190d-9-late-the-infamous-brown-4-pic-intensive/
  20. Hey guys! Here's my latest completion, Eduard's Fw190D-9 with the Ta152 tail. WIP here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234941449-148-eduard-fw190d-9-late-the-infamous-brown-4/ Okay, a quick rundown of the build: Cockpit: - Ultracast seat - Quickboost control column - Various scratch details - Color PE instrument panel repainted to match cockpit - Coaming pad built up with Mr.Surfacer Exterior: - MDC spinner/prop blades - Quickboost exhaust - Ultracast wheels - Quickboost pitot tube - Aires cowl gun barrels - Hypo tubing for wing root gun barrels - Exhaust shield and wing root stiffeners added from styrene - Tamiya canopy/headrest/armor - Tamiya morane antenna, end replaced with wire - Staple used for DF Loop antenna - Wire used for FuG25 antenna and gear indicators - EZ Line used for aerial antenna wire - Brake lines added from wire - Gun camera drilled out and filled with Krystal Klear for lens - Additional rivets added Paint: - Mr.Color lacquers thinned with Mr.Color Leveling Thinner - Alclads for metal surfaces - Exhaust stain done with Tamiya acrylics - Crosses and swastikas painted on with Montex masks - EagleCals #126 used for remaining markings - Vallejo Matte Varnish for flat coat - Prismacolor colored pencil for light wing root chipping You can also see more here: http://www.facebook.com/BrewerModels
  21. The exhaust stain was done with Tamiya acrylics, thinned with 91% Iso alcohol. Ratio was at least 9:1 thinner to paint, if not even thinner, and pressure was below 10psi. It was basically just tinted thinner. I started with a Red-Brown/Black mix, followed by Nato Black, then Dark Grey right behind the exhaust pipes. Color was very slowly built up to achieve the desired look Hope that helps!
  22. Well I'm sticking a fork in this one - it's done! Look for a post in "Ready for Inspection" tomorrow (6/21)
  23. Of course, be my guest! Sharing and learning is what the forum is all about My favorite part - flat coat and unmasking the clear parts!
