  1. I've seen it advertised at £35 which considering it does come with Photo Etch parts and booklet doesn't seem to bad to me. Kits seem to be getting expensive these days, price of plastic (through oil) is rising, and generally they are getting more sophisticated. I'm very happy as I'm dreadful at re-scribing and it's one of my favourite aircraft.
  2. Very well said, Kiwi Boy, I totally agree! Perhaps Airfix will take note and produce a new one? A very charismatic aircraft and people do do wonderful jobs with a 'bad' kit.
  3. "Yet another Spitfire"? I never tire of looking at them and yours is a very nice example! ...must give one a go.
  4. LIKE! That's it...I'm getting one you've inspired me!
  5. poo-poo a Brick!!! That's gorgeous!
  6. Fantastic photos. Really great to see your perspective. Have seen a lot of 'official or press photos but these say so much more!....More please!
  7. ALL brilliant!! Stever and Graeme...love the radio chat stories, even wifey likes them!
  8. Lovely build Trojan. I've noticed some 'ribbing' around the fuselage in semi gloss? Is that airframe stress? It looks really interesting and adds to the 'animation' of the model. How did you do it? looks good.
  9. Thanks a lot everyone! They're just the responses I need to stop the malaise. I'll strip the paint off and start again without primer and use gloss black for the pre-shading, and use thinner paint! Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
  10. Yeah I'm amazed at how it polishes up! Put it next to a mustang sprayed with Halford's silver and it really showed the difference! But it still looks like Hammerite. Fortunately, it seems to come off easily with some white spirits. Will try again in the morning.
  11. I'm doing the new Airfix Mig-15 and what a lovely kit it is, it's all gone together very nicely. Got to the painting stage today and have left it with that dejected feeling when things haven't gone as expected. It is the first time I've used the stuff and I have only just upped my game with airbrushing so I'm not too over critical but perhaps some of you with more experience can help? I primed the kit in grey and then underlighted the panel lines in black. I'd heard metalcote was tricky to mask so I sprayed some panels in the black to vary the final tone. Then sprayed the metalcote. The final result? It looks like the aircraft was painted in Hammerite!!! Now, have I put too much paint on? Have I mixed it wrongly? Or is the stuff such a bugger to use and therefore beyond my experience?
  12. Have been distracted by some strange noises recently. On closer inspection it is due to to multi blade props. On two occasions Hawkeyes of the French navy have flown overhead, but also the new Airbus A400M doing various manoeuvres, due to our proximity to Toulouse. Often get Armee de L'Air mirage F.1's, 2000's and the occasional Rafale, but mainly Alpha jets all low flying...too fast to get the camera out! Last week we saw two aircraft at high altitude obviously in a mock dogfight, too far away to determine what they were but made a fantastic vapour trail pattern in the sky.
  13. Brilliant! I especially love the SABENA one.
  14. lovely model! I think I prefer it in LAG too. You've done the weathering really well too, a well used aircraft. Was just reading how the Gnats used by India were known a 'Sabre Slayers' because of their success against the Pakistani Canadairs. Just out of interest!
