Hi all, I am in need of some Black "Royal air force" text approx 10mm in hight for a 1:32 Wessex. Looking around I get BECC model accessories who do some but it doesn't appear to be available anywhere. Not sure if there are any other decals like this, can anyone help me please? TIA Tommy

I like these kits, they build well and look good, not bad for the price too.- 16 replies

Very sad to hear this news, Mel was always a stop off for me at shows and would have something interesting to purchase and chat about, a true gent. Thoughts with his family at this difficult time.

Great finish and all brush painted, wow. How did you manage to mask the wavy line, as I see the 26 decals come with this as a 'thin blue line' ? Tommy -

Finding your posts essential, while I build my shortened RM. How did you create your own white decals, I'm able to print my own decals but white?? Regards Tommy -

Fantastic build and thanks for sharing. I am currently doing a similar build in a different livery and have found your pics invaluable when it comes to 'cutting that 27mm'. I wondered how you addressed the issue if the transfer below the used tickets bin, which states how many passengers can fit on each deck, as I'm discarding seats and the numbers are wrong now! Regards Tommy -
Hi all. Just looking through this post and realised I never posted completed photos... So better late than never here they are, I did enjoy this build and the finished model looked great, although delecate 😉 http://s1235.photobucket.com/user/tommyinuk0/media/Revell 1-32 Alouette II/_MG_1229_zps2404d5c8.jpg.html?sort=3&o=7

NOVO 1-72 SCALE JAVELIN XA778
tommyinuk0 replied to tommyinuk0's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
AMB Thanks for your message and thanks for an amazing book! As for the kit 4 years later it's still in the to complete pile...... not sure why it fell out of favour and there are not many kits in the pile as I'm very disiplined and tend to complete before starting more. HoWe've in this case for some reason..... Maybe as Airfix released their 1:48 Javelin? It may still be resurrected. .. Tommy -

Badder, Firstly I was supposed to say 'unburied' bodies, predictive text! I wasn't commenting on anyone's level of intelligence, I was simply expressing my opinion. Tommy -

Another great dio Lee. Certainly war wasn't neat and tidy and troops lay unburned until after battles. You see them in pics and the movies so why not dio? Tommy -

Hi Lee, Fantastic! Such a great build and it certainly is telling a story. I love all the detail but especially the slate wall and rubble. How did you achieve that and the individual bricks? Gives me and I'm sure many others something to aspire to. Well done. Tommy -
Hi all, I was never aware of Hawkeye models until you suggested them, so thanks. They certainly do a wide range of interesting stuff. Tommy

Hi all. News update. Thanks Andy for the great photo which has inspired me of what can be achieved. I did as Drew suggested and Ray at 26 decals has said he can upscale his 1:144 Lufthansa 737-100 set. So that's fantastic news. Ray also came up with a great possibility for the NASA version. This still may be useful for a poss second build!☺ as Andy said it's fun just finding such an ancient beast! I think if Ray at 26 decals can supply it would be a travesty not to do that version. Thanks to everyone for their contributions and I may well do a WIP thread for the build. Assistance may be sought for the scratch building bits but found a great photo walkaround online to help me. Cheers again. Tommy

Hi all, OK so I know its not the greatest, however I like the vintage kits and then problems and issues they come with. So when I found a 1:72 B747-100 Aurora kit for next to nothing I had to get it..... Now what to do with it, (throwing it in the bin is not an option before anyone adds that!) I guess my options are (based on the 100% chance the decals will dissintergrate in water) ... 1. Build as a 737-100 in Lufthansa or NASA (the preserved 737 prototype, 515 I believe) livery. Does anyone know where these could be sourced? 2. Use available (hannants) 737-200 decals, but then I believe I need to stretch fuselage 6' adding 4 windows each side? Not sure about engines though as some 200's seem to have similar engines as the 100 in pics. I am sure there are many out there with more knowledge than me and maybe have even done this crazy idea before. I am not after 100% perfection just whatever is needed to create a decent looking kit of an iconic ac using what's available. Thanks for reading, feel free to reply if you can help. Tommy

Great work and an idea I have been playing with. Have you heard if Darkstar paints? They do great metallic and esp pewter bronze etc acrylic paints. Check them out... -

That is a thing of beauty, top marks. I believe that kit was made and is available in 1:72 scale. Not heard of any other scale, for it? Never made any of their kits but it looks mighty fine. Tommy -
Hello Lee, Welcome to Britmodeller and thanks for sharing. Great dio, turned out well, how long did it take? Tommy

1:48 Hobby Boss F6F-5 Dayglo Hellcat
tommyinuk0 replied to tommyinuk0's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi all, Thanks for all the positive remarks The Alley cat decals set for this are great as they provide enough decals to do this version and more. The remaining versions are the Bikini Atoll drones with pink / yellow / green rear fuselages and tails. These make for interesting versions and I think I will be on the look out for another kit to complete one or more of these versions. Maybe less Dayglo in colour and more fadded orange? Iain - The background photo is one of the Hangars at Duxford IWM. Thanks Tommy -
Hello all, My latest creation which I wanted to share with you all. This is the 1:48 Hobby Boss F6F-5N Hellcat which I have made OOB to represent the F6F-5K mark. I believe I have carried this out correctly but I am sure someone will let me know if I have made an error The kit was great to build and went together really well. It was also very well detailed. The kit is cheap to pick up as well which makes it an attractive build. To add to this I used the Alley Cat Decals ACD48006 Post War Test F6F-5K Hellcats. These were painted in very attractive Day-glo colour schemes with often different coloured fins. I think the end result (in my un-biased) opinion is that the end build makes for a very attractive and different looking model. Painted using Halfords Day-Glo rattle can paint and all other paint is Acrylics brush painted. Anyway here are the photos: Thanks for looking, feel free to leave CC and comments. Tommy

Tamiya Lancaster "Dambusters" 1/48
tommyinuk0 replied to fallmonk's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Great dio, lovely model with clever extras. Re the canopy that you sprayed over, I find if you get some clear floor polish you can brush paint it over the canopy and it will make it clear again! I use 'Quick Shine Floor Finish' by Holloway House available from the Lakeland range of shops, others available. Test it first though. Hope this helps. Tommy- 30 replies

Revell 1-32 Hawker Hunter Mk6
tommyinuk0 replied to tommyinuk0's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi all, Firstly many thanks for all the positive comments, it's good to know your efforts are appreciated, the cat doesn't pay too much interest! I shall try to answer some of the questions, sorry if I've taken a while to respond, but here goes: robvulcan - Glad you liked the Diowhich was created by placing the model on some hardboard placed on a large book. The board was painted grey, with varnish 'blobs' to represent puddles/oil. Standing upright behind the board was a photo which I had taken at Duxford (The Hangars) and had enlarged to A2 size through photobox or similar sites. When this arrived I mounted it on some stiff card, you can get card which comes with one side coated in a sticky surface, available from Hobby craft etc. Leave a gap between the board and card, otherwise shadows can bend up onto the photo and appear running up the hangar walls!!! not realistic. Best results are done outside with natural sunlight. I simply place my camera infront of the board as required and take the pictures. I always ensure the camera function is selected which allows all objects, near and far to be in focus, I think its called auto focus. Anyway thats how I achieve my photos. I only dabble a little with them after I've taken them to achieve sepia etc. Feel free to PM me if you want a picture of how I set it up etc. David Styles: I hope you have had luck in finding a MK6, I am also building a Hunter FGA.9 in 1:32 available in most model shops, to be honest this is the same kit, with some extras and different decals. Maybe someone out there could confirm this, but I no difference? Could this be a possibility for you? DAG058: The kit took about 2 months but I was building 2, of these kits as mentioned above at the same time and also managed a 1:32 Mig-3 and a 1:48 Starfighter!! so I guess in reality it took one month. I do agree I need to find some chocks and Remove before flight tags to make the photos better. Glad you all liked the pics and feel free to ask any other questions. Tommy
