  1. This part of the label is difficult to read but, if anything, looks like “No.2 Flight”, which I suppose would be the same as B Flight to a Canadian soldier who didn’t know better. The pilot’s name is given as Lt. W.E. Nixon. Your information isn’t “coals to Newcastle” at all, and is greatly appreciated!
  2. I’m a member there and have made a post, as suggested. Thanks!
  3. Thank you, Pete! The prop blade was taken from the wrecked DH.2 by a Canadian soldier. I’m attaching a closeup photo of the handwritten note varnished onto the blade.
  4. I’d like to model a particular Airco DH.2, #7910 of 24 Squadron. It’s a long-shot, I know, but does anyone know where I might find a photo of this aircraft? My searches to date have proven fruitless but I’m still hopeful. I have a propeller blade from this aircraft and would love to have a model to accompany it.
  5. While I'm aware of Spitfire PR.XIX's being fitted with forward-pointing oblique cameras in underwing fairings, as shown in the photo on page 229 of Price's "Spitfire - A Complete Fighting History", the information about Spit XIX's using converted slipper tanks with cameras is new to me, and very interesting. Now, somebody mentioned the Spitfire FR.IX. Recently, I stumbled across a video clip of a camera being fitted to a field-converted RCAF Spitfire FR.IX. Here are a few screen grabs, in case anyone is interested: I've been told that these FR.IX's regularly carried forward looking cameras in slipper tanks, but I have yet to see a photo one fitted out like this. Dave
  6. Thanks so much for the helpful replies. Derek, the photo in "Spitfire: The Complete Fighting History" is exactly the one I had in mind but couldn't locate! The two-camera slipper tank is extremely interesting, too, and something I wasn't aware of before.
  7. Hi, everyone: It's my understanding that tactical reconnaissance Spitfires were sometimes fitted with a slipper tank modified to house a forward-looking camera. I recall seeing a photo of such a tank somewhere but, for the life of me, I can't remember where. If somebody could point me in the right direction, or provide any information at all on the subject, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Dave
  8. The length quoted - is that tail-up, or tail-down? That can make a bit of a difference... Dave
