  1. Nice progress Jason - look forward to seeing this up close! Dermot
  2. Thanks all and into the home stretch on this one. Got all the decals done over a couple of nights and then following a coat of Future, in at the deep end with a liberal helping of ProModellers wash.. And the after shot. Still some touch ups to go in places but happy how it's turned out. I know there's a bit of a line around the dorsal airbrake - that's down to my poor fitting of the part to begin with.... Final stage is some weathering, flat coat and bits like gear and drop tanks, etc. Thanks for looking! Dermot
  3. Very nice - look forward to seeing decals going on! Dermot
  4. Wish my 'regular' builds were as good as this re-build! What did you use for stripping? (if that's not a personal question) Dermot
  5. Thanks for the comments everyone. I spent Friday night adding the second camo colour (blue-grey) to my build. As mentioned before, I'm a brush painter so went through all the usual preparation steps - stirring, thinning, stirring again. And then painting. For whatever reason, the brushmarks were visible. Not great. Not happy. It was late. And just to prove the 5th law of modelling exists, I didn't walk away from the bench and leave it for the night. I stayed at it. And the brush marks got worse. Not a good place. I searched online for answers, thought about how I might rescue it. Or ditch it. Or start another build. In the end, I DID leave it for the night. And Saturday. And then came back to it last night. As best as I could with my limited skills, I sanded away the offending paint. Mixed and thinned the paint some more. And with a deep breath, went at it again. Touched up the other areas also affected. For sure, she won't win anything and there are some smaller marks still there but I think I've managed to mostly rescue it. And I'm also hoping the final matt coat will reduce the effect a little bit more. Yes, there is a nasty step in the dorsal airbrake I know - that i'm putting down to experience with building this kit. Don't be too harsh. She won't be the prettiest Eagle here. But I'm sticking with it. Thanks for looking. Dermot
  6. Nice work and the bare metal looks great. Just wondering what grade paper you used to rub back the grey? Might need to do the same... Thanks Dermot
  7. Just how fast was this thing??!! As you might say yourself General...........behhhhrrrrrrrr. Dermot
  8. After Halfords primer, some more filling and sanding around the wing roots/intakes and then 2 coats of Aggressor Grey - this is Revell's Grey 36157 with about 20% white added.....or thereabouts. Like all my builds, this was brushed on with the widest brush I have (must get a wider one). I also brushed from back to front and the finish seemed to turn out better than I expected. The afterburner cans are just dry-fitted and are darker in the photo than they appear in reality. Some other minor paint touch-ups to go and then on with the blue grey camo. I've left the tails off to help with painting the camo and for the decals...hope i don't regret that. All the best, Dermot
  9. Off to a nice start there Jason. Look forward to following this one! Dermot
  10. Thanks and no worries - I probably stole the idea from someone else here!
  11. Very nice work Sean; looking forward to seeing it up close! Dermot
  12. Yep, great idea, nice work on both the base and the car - will look very different! Dermot
  13. Hi everyone and some cracking Eagles around here - really inspiring me to build better! I have to admit the fiddly fit and build of this Academy kit is really testing my patience..Hopefully it's the kit and not my ham-fisted efforts! - on the burner cans, the individual linkages have tapered ends (not shown in the instructions) which I only discovered half way through. So some don't fit so well - please don't look too closely! - the intake sides have bevelled edges which made gluing the 3 parts together a bear. - fit of the top half of the front fuselage to the lower part was really poor (might have some previous issues due to the crack shown earlier) - fit of the intake sides to the fuselage not so good either... - added some tabs on the nose to locate the nose cone part smoothly Enough of the grumbling you say. And you're right! Onwards and upwards from now on. Thanks for looking. Dermot
  14. Very nice work and decals really set it off. Dermot
  15. Would anyone know about the intake 'ramps' on the Academy 1/72 kit? The instructions show the part folded in three but I'm not clear on how it's then mounted inside the intake? If its any help, I'm modelling my build as an a/c taxiing (i.e. on the move). Many thanks in advance. Dermot
  16. Err...has What If III started already? Does Mish know?! When I read this was launched to commemorate the 1979 revolution, I figured that's the year they got the 'in flight' video from. I was expecting the A-Team van to race by, with oil drums exploding all around them...
  17. Hi everyone and here's my first for this year - Revell's lovely 1/72 Fw-190 A8 converted to an A6 'Neptun' nightfighter. She was built for a Nightfighter GB on the IPMS Ireland forum (which ends this week); you can see more of our GB builds here. This kit was built mostly OOB but with the following changes - I cut open the rear canopy and used a replacement donated (Academy I think). The wingtip pitot was moved inboard and the nose guns modified to A6 version. The Neptun radar aerials were scratchbuilt from 5 amp fusewire. Like all my builds, the kit was brush painted with Revell Acrylics and the mottle was added with a small make-up sponge. Future, Promodellers and matt varnish finished it off. Decals were a mix of Revell (from the kit) and Tamiya for unit insignia and 'White 11'. If you're interested, my build thread is here Thanks for looking! Dermot
  18. My first helicopter GB! Count me in with a 1/72 Hobbyboss Seahawk. Dermot
